  • Weight loss, N and P dynamics during decomposition of fine roots (<2mm) of alder(Alnus japonica), oak (Quercus acutissima) and pitch pine(Pinus rigida) were studied for 33 months in Kongju, Korea. After 33 months, remaining weight of fine roots of alder, oak and pitch pine was 29.2%, 47.7% and 53.4% of the initial weight, respectively. The decomposition rate constant (k) for alder, oak and pitch pine was 0.448 $yr^1$, 0.269 $yr^1$, 0.228 $yr^1$, respectively. Initial concentration of N and P in fine roots was 10.32mg/g and 0.69mg/g for alder, 6.20mg/g and 0.37mg/g for oak and 7.26mg/g and 0.44mg/g for pitch pine, respectively. Initial concentration of N and P in alder were higher than those in oak and pitch pine. After 33 months, remaining N and P in fine roots was 39.5$\%$ and 31.8$\%$ for alder, 59.4$\%$ and 57.8$\%$ for oak, 63.0$\%$ and 83.4$\%$ for pitch pine, respectively. Decomposition rate and the rate of N released from decomposing fine roots was positively correlated with the initial N concentration of the fine roots.

  • To improve the capacity and stability of natural graphite, the electrochemical performances were investigated by using the prepared natural graphite coated with petroleum pitch for anode materials. The pitch coated natural graphite was prepared using a dry speed mixer by adjusting the rotation speed of the mixer, time, composition of graphite and softening point of the pitch. The physical properties of the anode material were analyzed using SEM, TEM, and PSD. The electrochemical performances were investigated by cycle, C-rate, EIS and CV test. When the pitch coated natural graphite was tested in the condition of 9000 RPM, 10 wt%, 2 h, and softening point of 150 ℃, it showed the highest capacity of 324.5 mAh/g at 0.1 C and a capacity retention rate of 98.9% after 50 cycles. In the test for evaluating rate performance, the capacity retention rate (5 C/0.1 C) was 80.3% and was improved by about 1.7 times over the pristine natural graphite.

  • In this paper, 1 propose a new method of Multi-Pulse Coding(IP-MPC) use individual pitch pulses in order to accommodate the changes in each pitch interval and reduce pitch errors. The extraction rate of individual pitch pulses was $85\%$ for female voice and $96\%$ for male voice respectively, 1 evaluate the MPC by using pitch information of autocorrelation method and the IP-MPC by using individual pitch pulses. As a result, 1 knew that synthesis speech of the IP-MPC was better in speech quality than synthesis speech of the MPC.

  • The flight control system utilize RSS(Relaxed Static Stability) criteria in both longitudinal axes to achieve performance enhancements and improve stability. The aircraft using digital flight-by-wire flight control system receives aircraft flight conditions such as pitch, roll and yaw rate, normal acceleration from RSA(Rate Sensor Assembly) and ASA(Acceleration Sensor Assembly). These sensors has permissible measurement error related to system safety of an aircraft but, unexpected flight motions are happened by sensing errors such as offset, noise and etc. The unexpected pitch down tendency occurred by ASA sensor bias in 1g level flight with pilot hands-off. This paper addresses the design and verification of flight control law to improve of pitch down or up tendency caused by ASA sensor bias. The result of analysis and flight test reveals that pitch down tendency can be improved by pitch attitude feedback system.

  • Dynamic shear tests for the tough-pitch copper at high strain and high strain rate was performed. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) compression test system was modified to yield a shear deformation in the specimen. Hat-shaped specimens for the tough-pitch copper were adopted to generate high strain of γ=3~4 and high strain-rate of γ= 10$^4$/s. The dynamic analysis by ABAQUS 5.5/EXPLICIT code verified that shear zone can be localized in hat-shaped specimens. A proper impact velocity and the axial length of the shear localization region wert determined through the elastic wave analysis. The displacement in a hat-shaped specimen is limited by a spacer ring which was installed between the specimen and the incident bar. The shear bands were obtained by measuring the direction of shear deformation and the width of deformed grain in the shear zone. The decrease of specimen length has been measured on the optical displacement transducer. Dynamic shear stress-strain relations in the tough-pitch copper were obtained at two strain-rates.

  • In this study, the feasibility of utilizing wood chips from pitch pine (Pinus rigida) was evaluated for bioethanol production by an organosolv pretreatment and enzymatic saccharification. When wood chips from pitch wood were pretreated with 75% (v/v) ethanol and 1.7% sulfuric acid as a catalyst at H-factor 2000, average pulp yield was 43.3%, which pretreated wood fibers showed higher glucan (55.8%) and lower lignin (12.2%) contents than untreated control (43.9% glucan and 27.8% lignin). After enzymatic saccharification, the organosolv pulps with 56.2% delignification rate reached above 97% conversion rate of cellulose to glucose. These results indicated that increasing the delignification rate causes micro pores on the surface of organosolv pulps resulting in improved the accessibility of enzyme onto the substrate. Moreover, it was in agreement with the SEM examination of wood fibers.

  • Thermal energy performance of a brazed plate heat exchanger has been evaluated experimentally. The effects of plate pitch as well as chevron angle of a plate heat exchanger on the heat transfer rate and pressure drop have been investigated in the wide range as mass flow rates in detail. This problem is of particular interest in the design of a plate heat exchanger. The results obtained indicate that both heat transfer rate and pressure drop are increased as mass flow rate is increased, as expected. It is also found that the heat transfer rate is increased with a decrease in the plate pitch while the heat transfer is decreased with a decrease in the chevron angle. Friction factor correlations are suggested based on the measured pressure drop and effectiveness of plate heat exchangers are also compared.

  • This paper studied various parameter extraction methods using pitch information of speech for the development of the emotion recognition system. For this purpose, pitch parameters were extracted from korean speech database containing various emotions using stochastical information and numerical analysis techniques. GMM based emotion recognition system were used to compare the performance of pitch parameters. Sequential feature selection method were used to select the parameters showing the best emotion recognition performance. Experimental results of recognizing four emotions showed 63.5% recognition rate using the combination of 15 parameters out of 56 pitch parameters. Experimental results of detecting the presence of emotion showed 80.3% recognition rate using the combination of 14 parameters.

  • In speech signal processing, it Is very important to detect the pitch exactly in speech recognition, synthesis and analysis. but, it is very difficult to pitch detection from speech signal because of formant and transition amplitude affect. therefore, in this paper, we proposed a pitch detection using the spectrum flattening techniques. Spectrum flattening is to eliminate the formant and transition amplitude affect. In time domain, positive center clipping is process in order to emphasize pitch period with a glottal component of removed vocal tract characteristic. And rough formant envelope is computed through peak-fitting spectrum of original speech signal in frequency domain. As a results, well get the flattened harmonics waveform with the algebra difference between spectrum of original speech signal and smoothed formant envelope. After all, we obtain residual signal which is removed vocal tract element The performance was compared with LPC and Cepstrum, ACF 0wing to this algorithm, we have obtained the pitch information improved the accuracy of pitch detection and gross error rate is reduced in voice speech region and in transition region of changing the phoneme.
