The objective of this study is to improve the classification structure of commodity code for piping material management which is considered as the fundamental of commodity code and piping material management system. It enhances the efficiency of piping material management directly or indirectly affecting the engineering, procurement and construction in a petrochemical plant projects. To establish an improved code classification structure, this study identifies the problems of former code classification structure in details, as well as the characteristics of other domestic and global EPC company's code classification structures and presents the improved direction considering the recently mega-sized and specialized projects. Accordingly, to efficiently enhance piping material management, the improved code classification structures have been derived from defining suitable code classification structure for specific piping component, adding more standard attribute, expanding the number of code digits and classifying code hierarchy. The results of applying the improved classification structure of commodity code to on-going project have led to reduce the rate of rework from 4.98% to 2.48% for developing purchase description and also have saved working time for executing piping design by 3D modeling from 6 months by two persons to 4 months by a person which is decreased 67% consequently. In addition, the structures of pyramid code management have resulted to accumulation and analysis of the various piping data for other disciplines such as procurement and estimation team which require commodity code information through the company's material control system.

In this study, we propose a piping material supply management method using CAD system. The piping materials installed in super large offshore plants have very complicated connection conditions. Therefore, it is very difficult to determine the order of receipt of a large number of installation materials. Therefore, we have developed a system that can automatically check the preparation rate of installation materials prior to the installation process. We have developed an algorithm to obtain connection information among installation items from PDMS system. We have developed an algorithm that can determine the order of installation materials to be installed using the connection information. The order of the installation material is determined by taking into account the constraint conditions for the complete installation of the piping material. We confirm the effectiveness of the developed algorithms in the operating system. This system is also used to manage installation schedules and plan the installation manpower.

City gas buried pipes are managed by corrosion protection to prevent corrosion. In the case of the press-in section, the double pipe and the main pipe may cause corrosion under the influence of stray current, which can shorten the life of the pipes. In addition, if the insulator is filled in the press-in section, the press-in section itself is a single structure, and can be directly affected by external impact, and when the surrounding ground subsidence occurs, the stress may be concentrated, resulting in serious consequences. In this study, a serration-type shock absorber in the form of a sliding support was proposed as a new buried double piping construction method using EPS. The serration-type shock absorber can contribute to the improvement of the integrity of the buried double piping, as it can utilize the gas piping's own ductility and stress distribution characteristics with proper anti-corrosion management and shock-absorbing material properties by preventing contact inside the buried double pipe. However, for application to ground piping, there remains a task to supplement the vulnerability against fire due to the characteristics of EPS materials.

This study describes a method for analyzing log data generated in a process using process mining techniques. A system for collecting and analyzing a large amount of log data generated in the process of manufacturing an offshore plant piping material was constructed. The analyzed data was visualized through various methods. Through the analysis of the process model, it was evaluated whether the process performance was correctly input. Through the pattern analysis of the log data, it is possible to check beforehand whether the problem process occurred. In addition, we analyzed the process performance data of partner companies and identified the load of their processes. These data can be used as reference data for pipe production allocation. Real-time decision-making is required to cope with the various variances that arise in offshore plant production. To do this, we have built a system that can analyze the log data of real - time system and make decisions.
Piping, a common form of internal embankment erosion, is caused by progressive movement of soil particles through an embankment. The phenomenon commonly occurs with precursory signs of development of fractures in dam structures, but also occurs without any noticeable signs in dams that showed satisfactory dam performance for several years, due to dissolution of soluble material in an embankment. While piping accounts for nearly 50% of the causes for dam failure, few studies have been made for systematic evaluation of the phenomenon. In this study, we attempted to monitor the changes in electrical resistivities of fill-dam material while a saddle dam is dismantled for the construction of emergency spillways of Daechung dam. Two artificial subhorizontal boreholes were drilled into the embankment structure to simulate piping along the two artificial flow channels. Monitoring of changes in electrical resistivity showed an increase in resistivity values during piping. Thus, the investigation of resistivity over time could be an effective method for piping prediction.
Flow-accelerated corrosion(FAC) is a phenomenon that results in metal loss from piping, vessels, and equipment made of carbon steel. FAC occurs only under certain conditions of flow, chemistry, geometry, and material. Unfortunately, those conditions are in much of the high-energy piping in nuclear and fossil-fueled power plants. Also, for domestic NPP secondary pipings whose operating time become longer, more evidences of FAC have been reported. The authors are studying on FAC management using CHECWORKS, computer code developed by EPRI. This paper is on the prediction results of metal loss by FAC in the one of CANDU type NPP secondary piping systems.
PVC pipe has excellent corrosion resistance and chemical resistance and is broadly used. However there are no regulations regarding exposed piping material in buildings. There is growing concern about the vulnerability of piping to fires and generating toxic gas. Exposed piping should be made of incombustible materials to prevent spreading of toxic gas and to minimize damage to life and property in case of fire. Many big structures are being built, and concerns regarding damage by fire are continuously growing. In these circumstances, we should reinforce fire safety standards for buildings and heighten safety consciousness to become a well-developed country. For these reasons, we investigated the materials used for exposed piping and the standards of well-developed countries to enhance safety. We tried to figure out the alternatives by examining the actual conditions of each region's buildings. Based on the use of incombustible materials for exposed piping in each region, we tried to enhance the effectiveness for safety by suggesting revisions for related laws and regulations.
Assumptions have always been that wall thinning on the secondary side piping in nuclear power plants is mostly caused by Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC). Recent studies have showed that wall thinning on the secondary side piping is caused by Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion (LDIE), Solid Particle Erosion (SPE), cavitation, and flashing. To manage those aging mechanisms, several software such as CHECWORKS, COMSY, and BRT-CICERO have been used in nuclear power plants. Korean nuclear power plants have been using the CHECWORKS program since 1996 to date. However, many site engineers have experienced a lot of inconveniences and problems in using the CHECWORKS program. In order to work through the inconveniences and to remedy problems, KEPCO-E&C has developed a "3D-based pipe wall thinning management program (ToSPACE)" based on the experience of over 30 years in relation to the pipe wall thinning management. This study compares the results of FAC and LDIE analysis using both the CHECWORKS and ToSPACE programs with respect to validation of the wall thinning analysis results.

The purpose of this study is to calculate and compare construction costs for On-Site Construction and Off-Site Construction in Plant Project. For this purpose, the target for calculating the construction cost was limited to the Pipe Rack(Steel Structure and Piping). The results derived according to the purpose of the study are as follows. 1)The direct construction cost for On-Site Pipe Rack construction was KRW 56 billion, with Steel Structure KRW 25.1 billion and Piping KRW 30.8 billion won. 2)Comparing the rate of change between On-Site Construction and Off-Site Construction, material costs increased by 1.9% and expenses by 192.1%, but labor costs decreased by -9.1%, resulting in a total direct construction cost increase of 8.4%. These results can be used as reference data to check the current status of the increase or decrease in construction costs when constructing Pipe Racks as Off-Site Construction.
