The behavior of earth retention wall installed in a cut slope is different from the behavior of retention wall applied in an urban excavation. In order to establish the design method of anchored retention wall in the cut slope, the behavior of anchored retention wall needs to be investigated and checked in detail. In this study, the behavior of anchored retention wall was investigated by the instrumentation installed in the cut slope, where was stabilized by a row of piles in an apartment construction site. The horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall was larger than the displacement of slope soil behind the wall at the early stage of excavation. As the excavation depth became deeper, the horizontal displacement of slope soil was larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall. It means that the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall due to excavation is restrained by soldier pile stiffness and jacking force of anchor at the early stage of excavation. lacking force of anchor was mainly influenced on the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall. The displacements of anchored retention wall and slope soil were affected mainly by rainfall infiltrated from the ground surface. Meanwhile, the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall with a sloped backside was about $2\~6$ times larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall with a horizontal backside of excavation.
In this study the pilot test of C.G.S (Compaction Grouting System) as injection method by low slump mortar was performed and the results were analyzed in order to find out the application of this method to the soft ground and the effect of settlement restraint. The site for pilot test is adjacent to apartments supported by pile foundations. Sand drain method was performed previously as countermeasures against settlement, but settlement occurs continuously because this ground is very soft. Site investigations such as SPT, CPT and vane shear test were performed to determine the characteristics of ground improvement after the installation of C.G.S. Field measurements were performed on purpose to find out the displacement of ground during the installation of C.G.S. From the results of this study, C.G.S method can be optimized by the control of radius, space, depth, injection material and injection pressure. C.G.S improves soft ground with radial consolidation of adjacent soft ground. Considering that increase of N value to about 3, C.G.S can be considered as an effective method to increase the bearing capacity as well as constrain the settlement of soft ground. It is also expected to be economic and effective in the improvement of ground when it is used in applicable sites.

The matching condition at a perforated wall with vertical slits involves the permeability parameter, which can be calculated by two different methods. One expresses the permeability parameter in terms of energy dissipation coefficient and jet length at the perforated wall, being advantageous in that all the related variables are known, but it gives wrong result in the limit of long waves. The other expresses the permeability parameter in terms of friction coefficient and inertia coefficient, giving correct result from short to long waves, but the friction coefficient should be determined on the basis of a best fit between measured and predicted values of such hydrodynamic coefficients as reflection and transmission coefficients. In the present study, an empirical formula for the friction coefficient is proposed in terms of known variables, i.e., the porosity and thickness of the perforated wall and the water depth. This enables direct estimation of the friction coefficient without invoking a best fit procedure. To obtain the empirical formula, hydraulic experiments are carried out, the results of which are used along with other researchers' results. The proposed formula is used to predict the reflection and transmission coefficients of a curtain-wall-pile breakwater, the upper part of which is a curtain wall and the lower part consisting of a perforated wall with vertical slits. The concurrence between the experimental data and calculated results is good, verifying the appropriateness of the proposed formula.

Purpose: The purpose of this work is to describe the spectrometric analysis of gaseous cloud formation over reactor mixed uranium-and-plutonium (UP) fuel $(U_{0.8}Pu_{0.2})O_2$ samples heated to a temperature $>2,000^{\circ}C$, and thus forecast and evaluate radiation hazards threatening humans who cope with the consequences of any accident at a fission reactor loaded by UP mixed oxide $(U_{0.8}Pu_{0.2})O_2$, such as a mixture of 80% U and 20% Pu in weight. Materials and methods: The UP nuclear fuel samples were heated up to a temperature of over $2,000^{\circ}C$ in a suitable assembly (apparatus) at out-of-pile experiments' implementation, the experimental in-depth study of metabolism of active materials in living organisms by means of artificial irradiation of pigs by plutonium. Spectrometric measurements were carried out on the different exposed organs and tissues of pigs for the further estimation of human internal exposure by nuclear materials released from the core of a fission reactor fueled with UP mixed oxide. Results: The main results of the research described are the following: (1) following the research on the influence of mixed fuel fission products (radioactive isotopes being formed during reactor operation as a result of nuclear decay of elements included into the fuel composition) on living organisms, the authors determined the quantities of plutonium dioxide ($PuO_2$) that penetrated into blood and lay in the pulmonary region, liver, skeleton and other tissues; and (2) experiments confirmed that the output speed of plutonium out of the basic precipitation locations is very small. On the strength of the experimental evidence, the authors suggest that the biological output of plutonium can be disregarded in the process of evaluation of the internal irradiation doses.
Gravel compaction pile (GCP) is widely used as it increases the bearing capacity of soft ground and reduces the consolidation settlement. Stress concentration ratio for design is dependent on the area replacement, surcharge pressure, depth and penetration rate. However, a range of stress concentration ratio obtained through field, laboratory experiments and numerical analysis is large. But since the main objective of the study is to evaluate the stress concentration ratio and settlement for both area replacement ratio and penetration rate through numerical analysis. Numerical analysis using the finite element program ABAQUS 6.12-4 has been performed for the composite ground with GCP. As a result, the stress concentration ratio at the points except for the point of top is in the range of 1.21-5.36, 1.19-5.45, 2.16-5.60 for 60%, 80% and 100% penetration, respectively. In general, as the penetration rate and area replacement ratio increases, the stress concentration ratio tends to increase.

Stress concentration ratio for GCP design is dependent on the area replacement, surcharge pressure and depth. However, a range of stress concentration ratio obtained through field, laboratory experiments and numerical analysis is large. Little study has been done on the stress concentration ratio for the mixing ratio of gravel and sand. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the stress concentration ratio for both area replacement ratio and mixing ratio through literature review and numerical analysis. Numerical analysis using the finite element program ABAQUS 6.12-4 has been performed for the composite ground with GCP. The excess pore water pressure and stress concentration ratio of composite ground have been analyzed for both the area replacement ratio and the mixing ratio. Based on the previous research results, a range of stress concentration ratio obtained from the field tests, laboratory tests, numerical analysis on the GCP studies is found to be 1.7-3.2, 2.0-7.5 and 2.0-6.5, respectively. Based on the numerical analysis results, as the area replacement ratio increases, the stress concentration ratio increases up to 30% and then decreases at 40%. Also, the stress concentration ratio tends to increase up to 70:30 and then to decrease after 60:40.

The construction project of the Kijang research reactor (KJRR), which is the second research reactor in Korea, has been launched. The KJRR was designed to use, for the first time, U-Mo fuel. Plate-type U-7 wt.% Mo/Al-5 wt.% Si, referred to as U-7Mo/Ale5Si, dispersion fuel with a uranium loading of $8.0gU/cm^3$, was selected to achieve higher fuel efficiency and performance than are possible when using $U_3Si_2/Al$ dispersion fuel. To qualify the U-Mo fuel in terms of plate geometry, the first miniplates [HANARO Miniplate (HAMP-1)], containing U-7Mo/Al-5Si dispersion fuel ($8gU/cm^3$), were fabricated at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and recently irradiated at HANARO. The PIE (Post-irradiation Examination) results of the HAMP-1 irradiation test were analyzed in depth in order to verify the safe in-pile performance of the U-7Mo/Al-5Si dispersion fuel under the KJRR irradiation conditions. Nondestructive analyses included visual inspection, gamma spectrometric mapping, and two-dimensional measurements of the plate thickness and oxide thickness. Destructive PIE work was also carried out, focusing on characterization of the microstructural behavior using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Electron probe microanalysis was also used to measure the elemental concentrations in the interaction layer formed between the U-Mo kernels and the matrix. A blistering threshold test and a bending test were performed on the irradiated HAMP-1 miniplates that were saved from the destructive tests. Swelling evaluation of the U-Mo fuel was also conducted using two methods: plate thickness measurement and meat thickness measurement.
The effect of the soil-structure interaction (SSI) on has been recently evaluated in shaking table tests. However, most of these tests were conducted on single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) superstructures and a single-pile. This study investigates the inertial interaction effect of a multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) superstructure system with a group piles on a large-scale shaking table test. Whereas the SDOF superstructure system shows a single-frequency amplification tendency, the MDOF superstructure system exhibited amplification tendencies of the acceleration phase and frequency responses for multiple frequencies. In addition, the amplification phenomenon between the footing and the column-type superstructure exceeded that between the footing and the wall-type superstructure, indicating a greater inertial interaction effect of the column-type superstructure. The relationship between shear force and inertial force, the relative vertical and horizontal displacements on the footing was figured out. Also, the ananlysis of dynamic p-y curve at each depth was conducted. In summary, the MDOF and SDOP superstructure systems exhibited different behaviors and the column-type superstructure exerted a higher interaction effect than the wall-type superstructure.
This study was performed to evaluate the influence of composting process with an intermittent aeration on the variation of rhizosphere soil temperature, $CO_2$ and $NH_3$ release, and the growth reponse of tomato plantlet in traditional and composting greenhouse. As the temperature of composting materials increased, rhizosphere soil temperature in 30cm depth rose up to $32^{\circ}C$ at one week after introduction. This was $18^{\circ}C$ higher than that of traditional greenhouse. After 20 days of active composting, temperature of rhizosphere soil started to decrease and remained constant at $23^{\circ}C$ after 35 days. For the traditional greenhouse, the averaged temperature ranged at $14{\sim}15^{\circ}C$. This results showed that composting greenhouse had the greater effect on increasing the underground temperature. Average value of evoluted $CO_2$ from the composting greenhouse for 70 days was $782{\sim}1154ppm$. This was $1.7{\sim}2.6$ times higher than that of the traditional greenhouse with an average of $440{\sim}462ppm$. $NH_3$ release was highest during $2{\sim}10$ days in intermittent aerated composting and reached to 134 ppm maximum on the 5th day, then decreased rapidly, and maintained at $3{\sim}4ppm$ after 17 days. Increased photosynthesis due to the $CO_2$ gas and a favorable rhizosphere environment due to the increased underground temperature resulted in improved growth, yield, and Brix degree of tomato fruit.
Bioterrorism is becoming more attractive to terrorist groups owing to the dramatic increase in the utility and lethality of biological weapons in line with today's cutting-edge biological science and technology. The Republic of Korea is facing both internal and external terrorist threats, as well as the possible biological warfare by North Korea. Therefore, it is essential to establish an effective bioterrorism response system in the ROK. In order to come up with the adequate response system for the ROK, an in-depth study has been conducted on the current bioterrorism response system of the U.S. whose preparedness is considered relatively adamant. As a result, the following facts have been found: (1)the legislation with regard to bioterrorism has been established or amended according to the current situation in the U.S., (2)the counter terrorism activities have been integrated with the Department of the Homeland Security as the central agency in order to maximize the national CT capacity, (3)Specific procedures and instructions to cope with bioterrorism have been made into manuals so as to enhance the working-level response capabilities. Next, the analysis on the ROK's bioterrorism response system has been performed in various categories, including the legislation system, task role distribution, cooperative relations, and resource application. It turned out that the ROK's legislation basis is relatively weak and it lacks the apparatus to integrate the bioterrorism response activities on the national level. The shortage of the adequate response facilities and resources, as well as the poor management of manpower have also emerged as problems that hinder the effective CT implementations. Through an analytical and comparative study of the U.S. and the ROK systems, this paper presents several ways to ameliorate improve the current system in the ROK as follows: (1)establish the anti-terrorism law, which would be the basic legal basis for the bioterrorism-related matters; and make revisions to the disaster-related legislation, relevant to bioterrorism response activities, (2)establish an integrated body that has a powerful authority to coordinate the relevant CT agencies; and converge the decentralized functions to maximize the overall response capacity, (3)install the laboratories with a high biosafety level and secure enough of the strategic medical stock-pile, (4)enhance the ability of the inexperienced response personnel by providing with a manual that has detailed instructions.
