  • Three compounds were isolated from the chloroform and n-butanol extracts of Filipendula glaberrima (Rosaceae). The structures of these isolates were elucidated as monotropitin, (+)-catechin, and ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ by spectroscopic analysis, and were identified by comparison of their spectra with those of reported ones.

  • A lignan and four flavonoid derivatives were isolated from the aerial parts of Panicum dichotomiflorum Michaux (Gramineae) through repeated column chromatography. Their chemical structures were identified as (-)-pinoresinol (1), tricin (2), luteolin (3), luteolin-4'-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosde (4) and luteolin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosde (5), respectively, by spectroscopic analysis. These compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant.

  • Column chromatographic separation of the MeOH extract from the aerial parts of Hibiscus manihot led to the isolation of four compounds. Their structures were characterized to be hentriacontane (1), palmitic acid (2), daucosterol (3) and 3-dihydrocaffeonyl-5-p-coumaroylquinic acid (4) by spectroscopic methods. The compounds (1~4) were for the first time reported from this plant. The solvent fractions were tested for their antioxidant activities by free radical scavenging and superoxide dismutase (SOD).

  • Chemical constituents of fruits, leaves and barks of Acanthopanax senticosus forma inermis were studied. Their fruits have higher contents of crude ash, crude protein, crude fat, fructose and glucose than those of other Acanthopanax species, and contained larger amount of glutamic acid and malic acid among amino acid and organic acid, respectively. The compounds identified from their barks and leaves, were $\beta$-sitosterol and stigmasterol, sesamin, savinin, syringaresinol diglucoside, oleanolic acid, chiisanoside and polyacetytene ($C_9H_{10}O_2$, mp. 62~63).

  • Phytochemical investigations on the aerial parts of Asplenium scolopendrium led to the isolation of four terpenoids, the structures of which were assigned as lutein (1), (6S,9S)-roseoside (2), icariside $B_2$ (3), and picrionoside A (4) using spectroscopic data.

  • Aconitum triphyllum Nakai, the Korean spontaneous perennial herb, is one of the most important materials of oriental drug Fu-zi(aconite) and has long been used as cardiotonic for arrhythmia, analgesic and antiinflammatory drug in oriental countries. Although the plant is widely used for the preparation of aconite, the composition and amount of the toxic aconitine type alkaloids have not studied so far. As the preliminary study for seasonal variation of major constituents in mother tuber and daughter tuber of the plant, the authors tried to elucidate phytochemical characteristics of $C_{19}-diterpenoid alkaloids by $^{13}C-NMR$ spectra and seasonal variation of the alkaloidal contents by high performance liquid chromatography.

  • Continuation of a phytochemical study of Cichorium intybus L. (Astraceae) growing in Egypt, resulted in the isolation and identification of a new sesquiterpene lactone 3,4-dihydrolactucin, in addition to the eight known compounds; kaempferol, isoscutellarin, cichoriin, umbelliferone, lupeol, lupeol acetate, ${\beta}-sitosterol$, and ${\beta}-sitosterol-3-O-glucoside$. Chemical structures of the isolated compounds were assigned based on different physical, chemical, and spectroscopic techniques including IR, UV, MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR spectra. Furthermore, the antimicrobial, and spasmogenic activities of some fractions and isolates were also assessed.
