Although physiological and ecological characteristics of cyanobacteria have been studied extensively for decades, unknown areas still remain greater than the already known. Recently, the development of omics techniques based on molecular biology has made it possible to view the ecosystem from a new and holistic perspective. The molecular mechanism of toxin production is being widely investigated, by comparative genomics and the transcriptomic studies. Biological interaction between bacteria and cyanobacteria is also explored: how their interactions and genetic biodiversity change depending on seasons and environmental factors, and how these interactions finally affect each component of ecosystem. Bioinformatics techniques have combined with ecoinformatics and omics data, enabling us to understand the underlying complex mechanisms of ecosystems. Particularly omics started to provide a whole picture of biological responses, occurring from all layers of hierarchical processes from DNA to metabolites. The expectation is growing further that algal blooms could be controlled more effectively in the near future. And an important insight for the successful bloom control would come from a novel blueprint drawn by omics studies.

In this case, it is considered that the cause of the lower limb Flaccidity-syndrome is the peripheral neuropathy accompanied with inflammation and in oriental medicine, it is understood that the factors such as lung fluid consumption caused by heat-evil, wetness-heat evil cause the lower limb Flaccidity-syndrome. Because the peripheral neuropathy is regarded as a neuropathy with a series of inflammation reaction producing inflammatory neuropeptides such as substance P, prostaglandin ect., in western medicine, nonsteroidal antiinflammation drug;NASID, lidocaine, capsaicine are prescribed to control this neuropathy. In the view of treatment of the lower limb weakness, Wooseul-tangkami is used to remove the wetness-heat evil and we had a electronic acupuncture on the Yangmyung channel(陽明經) selected in The Yellow Emperor's of internal Medicine and also on Panggwang channel(膀胱經) considered as painful lesion. We experineced a case of the lower limb Flaccidity-syndrome diagnosed as the peripheral neuropathy the patient was treated by wooseul-tangkami, a acupuncture on Yangmyung channel and also Panggwang channel and had a significant improvement in gait ability and the range of motion.

Aim of this study was to determine if obesity or abdominal obesity is more prevalent in persons with allergic rhinitis compared with healthy persons and to determine if obesity or abdominal obesity affects severity of rhinitis's symptoms. We studied 44 allergic rhinitic patients and 47 healthy persons. BMI and WHR were measured by the In-body 520. And severity of rhinitis's symptoms were assessed by questionnaires. The prevalence of obesity in allergic rhinitis group(27.3%) was significantly higher than control group(10.6%). And the prevalence of abdominal obesity in allergic rhinitis group(43.2%) was higher than control group(40.4%), but was not statistically significant. Nasal obstruction score of obesity group was higher than control group, but was not statistically significant. And nasal obstruction, Korean Allergic Rhinitis Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (KARQLQ) score of abdominal obesity group were significantly higher than control group. And when age and sex are corrected, allergic rhinitis and obesity's association was statistically significant. The prevalence of obesity in allergic rhinitis group was significantly higher than control group. Also when age and sex are corrected, allergic rhinitis and obesity's association was statistically significant. And nasal obstruction score was higher in obesity than control group, but was not significant. The other side, nasal obstruction and KARQLQ score in abdominal obesity group was significantly higher than control group. Thus, we thought that fixed various confounding factors and large-scale studies will be needed.
Colon cancer is considered as the precarious forms of cancer in many developed countries, with few to no symptoms; the tumor is often diagnosed in the later stages of cancer. Monoterpenes are a major part of plant essential oils found largely in fruits, vegetables and herbs. The cellular and molecular activities show therapeutic progression that may reduce the risk of developing cancer by modulating the factors responsible for colon carcinogenesis. Colon cancer was induced with DMH with a dose of (20 mg/Kg/body weight) for 15 weeks by subcutaneous injection once in a week. Myrtenal treatment was started with (230 mg/Kg/body weight) by intragastric administration, one week prior to DMH induction and continued till the experimental period of 30 weeks. The Invivo results exhibit the elevated antioxidant and lipid peroxidation levels in DMH treated animals. The Histopathological analysis of colon tissues well supported the biochemical alterations and inevitably proves the protective role of Myrtenal. Treatment with myrtenal to cancer bearing animals resulted in a remarkable increase in the inherent antioxidants and excellent modulation in the morphological and physiological nature of the colon tissue. It is thus concluded that myrtenal exhibits excellent free radical scavenging activity and anticancer activity through the suppression of colon carcinoma in Wistar albino rats.
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate is influenced by plasma protein, red cell itself and physiological conditions and it is clear that the measurement of erythrocyte sedimentation rate varies with technique and various environmental factors. The effect of temperature, angle of test tube, and osmobility with different percent of NaCl solution on erythrocyte sedimentation rate on sheep was determined by modified Westergren method. In sheep, as the angle of Westergren tube was decreased from $90^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$, erythrocyte sedimentation rate was increased in both diluted plasma and NaCl solutions. As temperature was increased from $4^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$ at $45^{\circ}$ angle. erythrocyte sedimentation rate was increased. In ruminants, this modified Westergren methods, erythrocyte 1 : plasma 9 instead of erythrocyte 4 : plasma 6(whole blood), enable them to have meanings as dog therefor, using this method, clinical can determine the erythrocyte sedimentation rate of ruminants for diagnosis. Because erythrocyte sedimentation rate was changed according to the angle of Westergren tube, temperature as erythrocyte diluted with NaCl, this study detected that the change of temperature, the angle of Westergren tube could change erythrocyte sedimentation rate by effecting red cell itself. The increase of osmobility owing to change of NaCl percent resulted in the decrease of rapid erythrocyte sedimentation rate. So this fact indicate that deformibility and the change of red cell volume have meaning in the change of erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
A new methyltrophic bacterium which utilizes methanol as a sole source of carbon and energy was isolated from soil. It was Gram-negative, nonmotile, nonspore-forming rod, and strictly aerobic bacterium. Catalase and oxidase activities were present. Nitrate was reduced to nitrite. Vitamins and other growth factors were not required. Generation time was 1.6 hr under the optimal condition. The isolate assimilated methanol via the ribulose mono-phosphate pathway (Enter-Doudoroff varient) and did not have .alpha.-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. It assimilated ammonia through glutamate dehydrogenase. The guanine plus cytosine content of the DNA was 61.0 mol%. The celular fatty acid composition was primarily straight-chain saturated $C^{16 : 0}$ acids (palmitic acids) and unsaturated $C_{16 :1}$ acid (palmitoleic acids), and the isolate also contained two unidentified $C_{17}$ branched fatty acids. The major ubiquinone was Q-8, and Q-6 and Q-7 were present as minor components. Phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol were predominantly present, and diphosphatidyglycerol was also detected. Based on the physiological and biochemical properties, the isolate was assigned to a novel species of the genus Methylobacillus, Methylobacillus methanolovorus sp. nov.

In this study, a ventilation model was developed to determine a ventilation rate for the balance of heat, moisture and $CO_{2}$ in a mushroom house. Internal and external temperature, relative humidity and $CO_{2}$ concentration were measured and used to validate the ventilation model. The effects of various environmental factors on physiological responses of mushroom were also investigated. The verified model was simulated under the observed ventilation rates with a difference of$ 0.001{\~}0.065\;m^{3}{\cdot}S^{-1}$ (relative error of $0.3{\~}18.9\%$) when external temperature varied 22.5 to $24.8^{circ}C$ and average ventilation rates was $0.35m^{3}{\cdot}S^{-1}$. The optimal conditions for mushroom growth (internal temperature $22 ^{circ}C$, relative humidity $80\%$, $CO_{2}$ concentration 1,000 ppm) were used for the model application with external temperature, relative humidity and $CO_{2}$ concentration of $27.5{\~}33.5^{circ}C$, $60\%$, and 355 ppm, respectively. Thermal balance was a important factor for an optimum ventilation up to the external temperature of $32^{circ}C$, while $CO_{2}$ concentration balance was more important over $32^{circ}C$. This suggests that humidification for moisture balance is required to maintain temperature and $CO_{2}$ concentration at an optimal level by ventilation in a mushroom house.

The effects of chronic chitosan salt supplementation on the systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and physiological parameters were investigated in healthy male and female adult. Chitosan salt was conducted by measuring various health-related factors such as body composition, plasma $Na^+$, $Cl^-$, lipid, and lipoproteins profiles, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) activity. Chitosan salt supplementation no significant differences before and after supplement in body composition variables and in SBP and DBP in either male or female. Plasma sodium and chlorine concentration no significant changes during chitosan salt supplementation, and no significant difference between two genders. Plasma GOT and GPT activity no different before and after supplement in either male or female. GOT activity significantly higher for male before supplement (p<0.05), and 2 weeks after supplement (p<0.01). The lipid and lipoproteins profiles of plasma no significant changes during chitosan salt supplementation in either male or female subjects. In summary, the chronic intake of chitosan salt did not affect the SBP or DBP, and posed no health risks.
After spermatogenesis, spermatozoa come in contact with fluids in the epididymis where they mature. During ejaculation, spermatozoa are mixed with secretions from prostate gland, vesicular glands, and bulbourethral glands. During natural mating, seminal plasma is deposited in the female reproductive tract eliciting various physiological and immunological responses. With the advances in proteomics, the components of seminal plasma have been identified and the information may be valuable in identifying markers for fertility. Components of seminal plasma that affect fertility have been discovered and the mechanism of action of these factors has been determined. The objective of this study was to determine the specific seminal plasma proteins from Korean native cattle, Hanwoo, and Korean native brindle cattle (KNBC) with the long term goal of improving fertilization rate. After SDS-PAGE and 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis, proteins were identified by Q-ToF analysis. They include plasma serine protease inhibitor precursor and platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase after SDS-PAGE. Number and density of the spots in 2-dimensional gels were higher in KNBC than Hanwoo. Proteins identified from the paired spots of both breeds include chain A, bull seminal plasma PDC-109 Fibronectin Type II module, BSP-30 kDa precursor, and Spermadhesin Z13 or its precursor. Interestingly, some proteins were identified from multiple spots. The functional differences of these diverse forms of the proteins may require further studies. With their previously reported roles in sperm capacitation by these proteins, the studies on the mechanism of action, ligand interaction and the variation in the genome may help improving fertility in cattle.

Our objective of current study was to investigate the development of bone and heart in association with diabetes mellitus (DM). DM was induced by administering an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ; 60 mg/kg) to 4-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats. Body weight and blood glucose were monitored, and rats were sacrificed after 2 or 5 weeks. The left ventricle (LV), including the interventricular septum, was weighed, and body weight and tibial bone length were assessed. Young diabetic rats showed reduced growth in terms of tibial length and body weight compared to controls. Moreover, diabetic males showed more significant growth suppression and reduced LV size than diabetic females. Morphometric analysis of tibiae from diabetic rats revealed suppressed bone growth at 2 and 5 weeks, with no difference between genders. STZ-induced diabetes decreased bone growth and retarded pre-pubertal heart development. As a result, diabetes may increase cardiovascular risk factors and lead to eventual heart failure. Therefore, new therapeutic approaches are required for diabetic children exhibiting growth retardation. Heart growth factor, exercise, and cardiopulmonary physical therapy may be required to promote heart development and physiological function.
