Treatment of root perforation elicits special considerations due to its blood-contaminated circumstances. It is known that conventional dental restorative materials are all leaking. Calcium sulfate is the material which react with water to become chemically set. This study, therefore, was performed to develop a new compound containing calcium sulfate and to evaluate its physical and biological characteristics. Three materials were used, IRM, calcium sulfate, calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound. The composition of the calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound was basically 50 % of calcium sulfate and 50 % of hydroxyapatite mixed with guajacol. The materials were mixed in conventional way and underwent four physical test procedures, setting time, solubility test, compressive strength, and marginal leakage test. All materials were evaluated under the scanning electron microscope to examine the marginal sealing ability. Animal experiment was also performed to test the materials' tissue response. Twenty-four dog's premolars were tested with either furcation perforations or apical retro-fillings. From the results, we found that calcium sulfate possess the good marginal sealing ability. However, calcium sulfate creates many voids which is caused by crystal thrusting action when it reacts with water. It seemed that the voids caused disintegration of the material which eventually lead to tissue reaction. By compounding calcium sulfate and hydroxyapatite, we were able to obtain the better physical properties but it showed larger marginal gap between the material and the root surface. Within the six weeks observation period, both IRM and calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound showed good tissue responses in animal experiment. It is concluded that calcium sulfate would be the material of choice in root perforation repair, but the physical property needs to be further improved.
Considering the importance of cassava as food crops in humid tropics, the effect of feed moisture (20, 25%) and barrel temperature (110, $130^{\circ}C$) on physical properties (piece density, expansion, mechanical properties, color, water solubility index, water absorption index) and pasting properties of extruded cassava starch was investigated. The feed moisture used during extrusion processing had a significant effect on extrudates SME input, specific length and piece density at (p<0.05) while effect on cross-sectional expansion index, apparent elastic modulus and breaking strength in bending shown significantly at p<0.1. Furthermore, the interaction effect of feed moisture and barrel temperature gave a significantly affected the SME input and piece density (p<0.1), specific length (p<0.05) and on redness (p<0.01). The increase in water injection rate led to increase in piece density, apparent elastic modulus, breaking strength in bending, cold peak viscosity, breakdown and final viscosity and decrease in cross-sectional expansion index and specific length. It was found that the extrusion cooking process did not affect the value of color L, color b, water solubility index and water absorption index. Thus, the results of this study can be useful to some extent in developing extruded cassava starch as human and animal feeds.

Methyl fructoside oleic acid polyester(MFPE), fructose-based sugar polyester, was synthesized by solvent-free, soap-free transesterification of methyl oleate with methyl fructoside(MF) as a sugar starting material in the presence of conventional potassium carbonate basic catalyst. Methyl fructoside was found to be an effective sugar starting material, because of its low softning point, high heat stability, high miscibility, and high reactivity than other sugars. Yield 98% of purified MFPE based on initial weight of MF was obtained at 1:5 of the molar ratio of methyl fructoside to methyl oleate, 2%(w/w) of potassium carbonate catalyst content, 20${\sim}$200mmHg of reduced pressure and $180^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature. MFPE structure was confirmed by infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Physical properties of methyl of fructoside oleic acid polyester such as viscosity, HLB, solubility, color, refractive index, specific gravity, and density were similar to physical properties of sucrose polyesters(SPE) and vegetable oils. Then, it was elucidated that MFPE was sufficient to replace the SPE and conventional oils.
The particle size of medicinal materials is an Important physical property that affects the phar-maceutical behaviors such as dissolution, chemical stability, and bioavailability of solid dosage forms. The size reduction of raw medicinal powder is needed to formulate insoluble drugs or slightly soluble medicines and to improve the pharmaceutical properties such as the solubility, the pharmaceutical mixing, and the dispersion. The objective of the present study is to evaluate physiological activity of amorphous and nano-particle prep-arations of insoluble drug, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), which were made by three types of fine grinding mills. The change of physical properties of ground UDCA was conformed by Mastersiger microplus and X-ray diffraction. We have investigated hepatoprotective effects of the nano-particle preparations of UDCA by plan-etary mill, vibration rod mill and jet mill in $CCI_4$-induced oxidatively injured mouse liver. The results showed that nano-particle preparations of UDCA all decreased reactive oxygen sepecies generation and lipid peroxi-dation in $CCI_4$-induced oxidative stress mice. Among them, nano-particle preparations by vibration rod mill and jet mill showed more significantly hepatoprotective effects compared to intact UDCA and planetary mill-ground UDCA. These results suggest that ground UDCA with vibration rod mill and jet mill shows a high amorphous state and the improved dissolution.
Inclusion complexation of tiaprofenic acid (TPA) with cyclodextrins $({\alpha}-,\;{\beta}-,\;{\gamma}-CyDs)$ in aqueous solution and in solid phase was investigated by solubility method, measurement of partition coefficient, ultra-violet, circular dichroism, infrared spectroscopies, powder X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. Investigations were made to prepare inclusion complexes of TPA with ${\beta}-CyD$ in solid powdered form by coprecipitation, freeze-drying, spray-drying and co-pulverization methods. The coprecipitation, freeze-drying and spray-drying methods were successful in obtaining inclusion complexes. The results showed that the latter two methods might be originally superior to the former in obtaining powdered inclusion completes. Especially, it was shown by powder X-ray diffractometry that spray-dried ${\beta}-CyD$ alone, TPA-spray-dried ${\beta}-CyD$ physical mixture, and spray-dried $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ complex were amorphous. The dissolution behaviours of $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ systems prepared by above four methods were compared with those of TPA alone and $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ physical mixture, and the rates of dissolution of TPA in pH 1.2 buffer were greatly enhanced by inclusion complexation and copulverization.
It is important to analyze crosslink densities of rubber articles because the physical properties are dependent on the crosslink densities. In this paper, analytical techniques for the measurement of crosslink densities of rubber vulcanizates are described. The most widely used method to measure the crosslink density is a swelling method combined with the Flory-Rehner equation. Application of the interaction parameter (${\chi}$) of rubber and swelling solvent is critical because the crosslink density is absolutely dependent on the ${\chi}$ value. Methods for obtaining ${\chi}$ employ not only solubility parameters of the polymer and swelling solvent but also inverse gas chromatography (IGC). The solubilities of rubbers can be obtained using micro differential scanning calorimetry (${\mu}DSC$), intrinsic viscosity measurement, and UV-visible spectroscopy. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been also used for the measurement of the crosslink density using the $T_2$ relaxation time, which is determined by spin-spin relaxation in solid-state NMR. For sulfur-cured rubber vulcanizates, crosslink densities according to the crosslink types of mono-, di-, and polysulfides are measured by treating the rubber samples with a chemical probe composed of thiol and amine compounds. Measurement methods of physical crosslinking by filler, crystallization, and ionic bonding have also been introduced.
The objective of this study is to develop hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents by blending paraffins, glycol ethers and siloxanes in oder to effectively clean contaminants such as flux, solder and grease. And the effect of cleaning ability by wetting index, aniline points and solubility parameter of the formulated hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents were studied in this work. The formulated hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents were prepared on the base of physical properties of their individual components. Wetting indexes and aniline points of their were measured through experiments and solubility parameters of their were calculated based on the Hansen's equation. In this study, evaluation of cleaning ability by cleaning agents were carried out using contaminants such as flux, solder, and grease. The experimental results showed that the cleaning ability of the formulated cleaning agents was excellent in cleaning contaminants such as flux, solder and grease and that the influencing parameters on their cleaning efficiency were found to be different according to contaminant types. MC($20.3MPa^{1/2}$), DF-1 ($24.2MPa^{1/2}$) and DF-2($21.5MPa^{1/2}$) with similar solubility parameter as flux ($21.3MPa^{1/2}$) showed 100% cleaning efficiency within 3 minutes in flux cleaning. And CFC-113, MC and 1,1,1-TCE with low aniline point less than $-20^{\circ}C$ showed excellent cleaning efficiency in solder cleaning. DG-1($16.2\;MPa^{1/2}$) and DG-2($15.5\;MPa^{1/2}$) with similar solubility parameter as grease($15.0{\sim}17.0\;MPa^{1/2}$) showed relatively low cleaning efficiency of grease, but CFC-113 and MC with high wetting index and low aniline point showed good cleaning efficiency in grease cleaning. As a result of this study, the hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents alternative to regulated cleaning agents such as CFC-113, 1,1,1-TCE and MC were able to be developed through properly blending paraffins, glycol ethers and siloxanes for cleaning flux, solder and grease. And it can be shown that various influencing parameters of cleaning efficiency such as wetting index, aniline point, solubility parameter and etc. of the non-aqueous cleaning agent should be reviewed for prediction of their cleaning ability and can be applied to formulation of cleaning agents.

This study analyzed paired middle school students' verbal and physical interactions in small group learning using augmented reality. Twelve 8th graders were paired to take classes of solubility and melting/boiling points based on augmented reality. These classes were videotaped and recorded. After the classes, all the students participated in a semi-structured interview. The results were analyzed in three sections; individual statement units of verbal interaction, interaction units of verbal interaction and physical interaction. In the individual statement units of verbal interaction, the proportion of information question/explanation was found to be high. In the interaction units of verbal interaction, the proportion of simple interaction was the highest, followed by elaborated interaction. Beneath the elaborate interaction, the proportion of cumulative interaction was found to be the highest, followed by reformative interaction. In the physical interaction, writing a worksheet and gazing at a virtual object were higher. On the basis of the results, effective ways to form a proper environment in small group learning using augmented reality are discussed.

To resolve environmental pollution caused by synthetic packaging materials, biodegradable films have been studied as an alternative. In this study, we prepared rockfish skin gelatin (RFG) and nano-clay (Cloisite $Na^+$ and Cloisite 10A) composite films to compare the effects of nano-clay on the physical properties of RFG film. Gelatin was extracted from rockfish skin and used to prepare RFG film with sorbitol as a plasticizer. Tensile strength (TS), water vapor permeability (WVP), and water solubility (WS) of the RFG film were 15.0 MPa, $2.70{\times}10^{-9}g\;m/m^2\;s\;Pa$, and 53.8%, respectively. Addition of nano-clay to the RFG film increased TS and decreased WVP and WS. The X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopic results suggest that RFG/nano-clay composite films formed an exfoliated structure. These results indicate that RFG/nano-clay composite films can be applied as biodegradable packaging materials in the food industry.
To develop the manufacturing technique for the powder builder of amorphous solid types, the water glass mixed with caustic soda dispersed into the methanol. Thus soluble sodium silicate was made a form of amorphous solid powder. In order to examine characteristics of water soluble sodium silicate $SiO_2/Na_2O$ mol ratio, we investigated solubility, thermogram, SEM, and BET analysis. pH buffering capacity, calcium-ion binding capacity as temperature change, and surfactant loading capacity were examined for characteristics as laundry detergent builder. $SiO_2/Na_2O$ molar ratio of soluble sodium silicate was 1.0, 2.4, 2.8, and zeolite was used in order to investigate basic characteristics of laundry detergent builder. Silicate used with laundry detergent was good for pH buffering capacity and solubility. But calcium-ion binding capacity and surfactant adsorption ability were lower. $SiO_2/Na_2O$ mol ratio became higher, pH buffering capacity and ion exchange ability were lower and surfactant adsorption ability was a little higher.
