  • We report a case of fluoroscopy-guided intraarticular steroid injection for sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) arthritis caused by limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (SSc). A 50-year-old woman diagnosed with limited cutaneous SSc presented with swelling and pain in the right SCJ. MRI revealed signs of inflammation consistent with right-sided sternoclavicular joint arthritis. After the failure of oral medications, we performed fluoroscopy-guided injection in this region. She reported complete resolution of her symptoms at 4 and 12-week follow-ups. This outcome suggests that a fluoroscopy-guided SCJ injection might be a safe and successful treatment option for sternoclavicular joint arthritis.

  • The multiple acupuncture techniques have been used to relieve the pain of lateral ankle sprain. Recently, early functional rehabilitation is emphasized in rehabilitative concepts using active ROM, facilitated proprioception, alphabet exercise and so forth. Similarly, in oriental rehabilition medicine, traditional movement technique called 'Dong-Ki' has been used to relieve pain of ankle sprain. So we used 'Dong-Ki' technique with SSP(silver spike point) electrotherapy transformed from alphabet exercise and evaluated the effects in method of randomized controlled trials. 27 outpatients with lateral ankle sprains were randomized into two groups : 15 samples and 12 controls. Sample group was treated with 'Dong-Ki' technique(writing his name with foot) with SSP electrotherapy to relieve pain during additionally. 'Dong-Ki'. Outcomes were measured by 10cm VAS and ankle circumference(cm). In terms of VAS, Sample group had inclination of pain relieving but not significantly meaningful. In terms of ankle circumference measurement, Sample group showed significantly improved.

  • PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of health-promoting behaviors on the subjective well-being of a physical therapist. METHODS: Survey data were collected from 247 physical therapists in Daejeon city. The baseline for health-promoting behaviors was determined using Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP), subjective well-being was determined using Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), quality of life was measured using the SF-36 (Short-Form 36), and pain level was determined using the Quadruple Visual Analogue Scale (QVAS). Health-promoting behaviors and related factors were analyzed using an average comparative analysis (t-test), and the factors relevant to subjective well-being and health-promoting behaviors were evaluated using correlation analysis (Pearson's correlation coefficient). Factors affecting health-promoting behaviors were evaluated using stepwise multiple regression analysis (stepwise multiple regression). RESULTS: The mean score for health-promoting behavior was 3.73, with emotional support having the highest score (3.90) and regular meals having the lowest score (3.16 points; p<0.01). Health-promoting behavior was significantly correlated with positive emotions and negative emotions are subjective well-being, negative emotions and pain were noted (p<0.01). Health-promoting behaviors showed a significant correlation with quality of life (r=0.04), positive emotions (r=0.21; p<0.01), negative emotions (r=0.16; p<0.05), and pain level (r=0.016). The results of this study showed that health-promoting behaviors are significant predictors of subjective well-being in physical therapists (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: Physical therapists have to maintain their health by avoiding infections. Regular exercise is the most important factor among all health-promoting behaviors.

  • PURPOSE: Prone hip extension (PHE) has been used for assessment of lumbo-pelvic movement and strengthening exercise for weakness of the hip joint muscles in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). On the other hand, few studies have examined which are the best PHE exercises to activate the gluteus maximus (GM) selectively in physical therapy practice. To aim of this study compared the muscle activity of the GM, rectus femoris (RF), biceps femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA) during these four different prone hip extensions, PHE, PHE with quadriceps activation (PHEQA), PHE with ankle dorsiflexion (PHEAD), and PHE with ankle plantarflexion (PHEAP), in subjects with CLBP. METHODS: Nineteen subjects with low back pain participated in this study. Subject performed four PHE exercises and surface electromyography (EMG) was used to evaluate the muscle activity. Data were analyzed by one-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (${\alpha}=.05/3=.017$) and a Bonferroni adjustment was performed if a significant difference was found. RESULTS: The muscle activities recorded by EMG showed significant among the four exercises. The muscle activity of the GM increased significantly during PHEQA than during PHEAP (P=.012). CONCLUSION: PHEQA is the most effective exercise for eliciting greater GM muscle activation among the four PHE exercises in subjects with CLBP.
