PURPOSE: Central post-stroke pain (CPSP), a chronic pain condition of stroke patients, can impair activities of daily living and worsen the quality of life (QOL), thereby negatively influencing the rehabilitation process. However, CPSP remains an underestimated complication of stroke. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and types of new-onset chronic pain and to identify the relation between pain and QOL in stroke patients. METHODS: All patients hospitalized because of a diagnosis of stroke were included. Questionnaire was used. Pain intensity was measured using Numerical rating scale (NRS), and pain characteristics were assessed using DN4. QOL was measured using SF-36. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the characteristics and pain data, and chi-square test was used to compare QOL categorical data between the nociceptive and neurological pain groups. RESULTS: CPSP development was reported by 34% of the post-stroke pain patients. Perceived QOL was low in both groups, especially with respect to the physical functioning, bodily pain, physical-role functioning, emotional-role functioning, and mental health domains. However, no significant difference was observed in QOL between the nociceptive and neurological pain groups (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that CPSP is a common and disabling complication that is difficult to treat, often decreases QOL, and may negatively affect rehabilitation treatment.

Background: The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effects of Push-up plus exercise with kinesio taping on the pain and shoulder motor function in patient with shoulder myofacial pain syndrome. Methods: The patients with myofacial pain syndrome were randomly divided 2 groups. kinesio taping group (n=20) was taken physical therapy program and kinesio taping. Push-up plus exercise with taping group (n=22) was taken physical therapy and kinesio taping with Push-up plus exercise. The kinesio taping applied on upper trapezius and levator scapulae. The Push-up plus exercise performed in standing position and qudripad position during 10 seconds on 15 time, 3 set per each positions. We mearsured the pain degree using PPT, VAS, MPSSI and shoulder motor function using CSA before and after experiment. The significant test of PPT, VAS, MPSSI, CSA according to applying the kinesio taping and Push-up plus exercise between groups used ANCOVA. Results: In the result following analysis, there was significance on PPT (F=7.378, p=.016), VAS (F=13.071, p=.031), CSA (F=5.302, p=.026) between kinesio taping group and Push-up plus exercise with tapping group. Then, Push-up plus exercise with kinesio taping group has significance on the PPT, VAS, CSA in patients with myofacial pain syndrome. Conclusions: It may suggest that kinesio taping combined with Push-up plus exercise will be helpful of the pain and shoulder function improvement in the patients with myofacial pain syndrome.
Purpose: Cervical pain is caused mainly by a static position, lasting work, bad habits and stress, and is accompanied by pain in the upper trapezius. Traditionally, heat and traction, exercise, mobilization, manipulation have been used to treat cervical pain. This study examined the effect of stretching and manipulation (high-velocity low-amplitude: HVLA) on the pain and ROM in women with chronic cervical and upper shoulder pain. Methods: Fifty-two women diagnosed with chronic cervical and upper shoulder pain were enrolled in this study. Among them, 26 patients (experiment group) were managed by passive stretching and manipulation, and another 26 patients (control group) were treated with physical therapy intervention (hat pack: HP, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation: TENS, ultra sound: US). Each group made use of a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the highly reliable (flextion: 0.92, extention: 0.99) cervical range of motion (CROM) to compare the possible changes in pain and ROM in the two groups after treatment. Results: In the experimental group, the pain decreased and the ROM has increased in all directions. In the control group, the pain decreased but the ROM was not changed in all directions. Conclusion: According to the results, passive stretching and manipulation is effective for increasing the ROM and decreasing the level of pain. Moreover, physical therapy intervention (HP, TENS, US) is effective for immediately decreasing the pain but has little effect on the ROM.
The purpose of this study aim to analyze factors that influence the job satisfaction of physical therapist in working in Elderly Care Facilities. The participants were 173 physical therapist was using a self-administered questionnaire. Data was collected from June 12 to 15, 2012 and analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The average physical therapist's job satisfaction was $3.27{\pm}.49$ points. There was significant difference according to work motivation in job satisfaction. 83.4% of participants felt pain. The major causes of the pain were 'repeating the same job constantly(25.5%).' There were statistically significant correlations between pain on movement patterns(r=-.163, p<0.01), duration of pain(r=-.174, p<0.01) and job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis revealed that job satisfaction became significantly high with work motivation is more definitely. It is necessary to develop job satisfaction management program and musculoskeletal pain policy for physical therapist.
Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the effects of thoracolumbar fascia release (TLFR) on the degree of pain and disability in patients with shoulder pain. Design: Randomized control trial. Methods: Thirty subjects with shoulder pain participated in this study. They were allocated to TLFR group (n=15) and manual physical therapy (MPT) group (n=15). Shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) and the score on the visual analogue scale (VAS) were measured before and after TLFR. Results: In the TLFR group, the degree of shoulder pain as indicated by SPADI measured after the intervention significantly differed from that before the intervention (p<0.05); moreover, in the MPT group, the degree of shoulder pain was significantly lower (p<0.05). The data of the 2 groups before the intervention significantly differed from those after the intervention (p<0.05). SPADI significantly differed within the groups (p<0.05), but not between the groups. The sum of SPADI did not differ significantly between the groups. The VAS scores of shoulder pain measured before the intervention significantly differed from those measured after the intervention (p<0.05) in the both groups. After the intervention, shoulder pain decreased significantly in the TLFR group as compared to that in the MPT group. Conclusions: TLF release was effective in reducing shoulder pain. The results of this study can be applied in clinical practice for TLFR performed to reduce shoulder pain. Further studies will need to be performed to elucidate the effects of TLFR on functional recovery.

Involved muscle with low back pain reviewed I. C. L(31.0 %), Q. L, Gluteus and others muscle(23.0 %). 5. Disease history and treatment duration were proportioned. 6. Involved muscle distribution for causative disease was 26.0 % post exercise to I. C. L, 33.5 % lifting object to Q. L, 40.0 % without known to gluteus. 7. Low back pain with syndrome was buttock and thigh Pain with 44.0 %, only low back pain with 36.0 %. 8. The improvement by physical therapy on the low back pain was good 24.0 %, fair 56.0 % etc respectively. * I.C.L : Iliocostalis lumborum * Q.L : Quadratus lumborum.
Objectives : This study was to analysis of pain using visual analogue scale questionnaire. Methods : Questionnaire were completed by 101 adult patients of department relation to simple pain in hospitals of Taegu from March 10, to April 10, 2000. The information was used to estimate multiple regression for the pain related factors association. Results : Visual analogue scale scores of mean was 4.29. work modification scores was 5.50. The scores of 1 month below was mild$(45.16\%)$, 6 months above was discomfort$(56.41\%)$. distressing$(72.73\%)$. and excruciating$(100.0\%)$ in association between present pain index and duration(p=0.002). Visual analogue scale scores was significantly associated with frequency of pain and present pain index. Conclusion : Date from this study support a statistically significant association between visual analogue scores scores and two factors found in other research to increase the relation with pain. This findings may have implications for targeting frequency of pain and present pain index.
This study was conducted to identify the pain characteristics, family support and physical functioning and to determine predictors of the quality of life in aged women with chronic pain. Method: The questionnaires were collected through direct interview by a trained research assistant from July 2 to August 24, 2001. Subjects were 108 women clients with chronic pain over 65 years of age. Data analyzed frequency, percentage, mean, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression by SAS. Result: Care providers were mostly spouses and daughters in law. Care providers who took care of elderly for a few hours a day had the highest percentile. Aged women had persistently had chronic pain of moderate intensity and was moderately satisfied with pain management. The mean score of disability due to pain was 3 on a 10 point scale. The mean scores of physical function and quality of life were moderate and there were negative correlations between pain characteristics, physical functioning, and quality of life at the range from r=-.46 to r=-.83. Satisfaction with care, duration of pain, disability due to pain, and physical functioning accounted for 56% of the variance in perceived quality of life for aged women with chronic pain. Disability due to pain was the most predictable variable of quality of life and physical function was the second .Conclusion: The results suggest that care by family, education in pain control, prevention of disability, and maintenance of physical function are important to improve and maintain quality of life in aged women with chronic pain. Therefore, there is a need for program development that enhance family support and nursing intervention that focuses on active pain control.
