  • An analysis fur the warping process has been performed to design the warper beam. Nonlinear material response is included in the physical model of polyester yarn. Large deformation finite element simulation considering contact and frictional analysis are used to obtain the pressure on the barrel of the warper beam. Loading condition on the flange is assumed by using the pressure on the barrel, winding number of yarn, Poisson's ratio of fiber, and fiber volume fraction. By using the above loading conditions NASTRAN finite element simulation is performed to calculate stress distribution and deformation of the warper beam. By comparing the deformed shape of the flange with experimental result, loading condition on the flange has been obtained. The obtained loading conditions on the barrel and flange can be utilized to design the warper beam.

  • Sarcopenia is the degenerative loss of muscle mass and function with aging. Recently sarcopenia was recognized as a clinical disease by the International Classification of Disease, 10th revision, Clinical Modification. An imbalance between protein synthesis and degradation causes a gradual loss of muscle mass, resulting in a decline of muscle function as a progress of sarcopenia. Many mechanisms involved in the onset of sarcopenia include age-related factors as well as activity-, disease-, and nutrition-related factors. The stage of sarcopenia reflecting the severity of conditions assists clinical management of sarcopenia. It is important that systemic descriptions of the disease conditions include age, sex, and other environmental risk factors as well as levels of physical function. To develop a new therapeutic intervention needed is the detailed understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms by which apoptosis, autophagy, atrophy, and hypertrophy occur in the muscle stem cells, myotubes, and/or neuromuscular junction. The new strategy to managing sarcopenia will be signal-modulating small molecules, natural compounds, repurposing of old drugs, and muscle-specific microRNAs.

  • When a store is launched, the umbilical plug should be separated from the launcher without any physical interference and fragments. In order to satisfy these conditions, an umbilical plug and an umbilical separating device were designed. The plug is separated from the receptacle of the store while moving along inclined planes by the store thrust and the spring force connected from the launcher to the plug. As a result of the prototype test, the hanger on the store collided with the plug. Several tests were conducted after some actions were taken to prevent the collision. However, not only the same phenomenon was repeated, but also fragmentation occurred. In this study, the non-colliding conditions were analyzed through rigid and flexible multi-body dynamics analysis.

  • Background: The intelligent tissue hypothesis holds that an organ's states (be it normal function or stressed states) are reflected in real time at its related acupuncture points (acupoints), causing physical, real-time changes in the local tissue. The experiment was devised to test this. Methods: The patient drank chilled water while the impedance at 6 stomach-related acupoints was monitored in real time (sample rate of 1 kHz). Any changes in the local tissue at the acupoints ought to be reflected in changes in the impedance. Results: The impedance at every test acupoint showed a response to the chilled water being ingested. Also, the duodenal pacesetter and the stomach's slow waves were clearly visible in the impedance pattern at all the acupoints. Conclusion: Hence, many separate details of the stomach's function were reflected at these acupoints. The duodenal features were consistent with the traditional indications for these acupoints, which are noted to be able to treat intestinal conditions. Therefore, the results were consistent with the hypothesis and also provided a possible explanation for how the use of these acupoints is able to treat intestinal conditions.

  • It is interesting to find the best exospheric model that can account for the observed characteristics of the lunar coma and tail simultaneously. Recently, the initial abundances of atomic species near surface are found to be different depending on certain local areas. We will present the influence of different initial conditions of localized sources on the characteristics of the lunar exosphere, and also present time-dependent simulations showing the distributions of atomic species around the lunar coma and the final stage of the lunar tail. Based on our updated 3-D lunar model, we will present resulted physical parameters of the lunar sodium coma and tail.

  • Accurate current-voltage modeling of solar cell systems plays an important role in power prediction. Solar cells have nonlinear characteristics that are sensitive to environmental conditions such as temperature and irradiance. In this paper, the output characteristics of photovoltaic module are accurately predicted by combining the artificial neural network and physical model. In order to estimate the performance of PV module under varying environments, the artificial neural network model is trained with randomly generated temperature and irradiance data. With the use of proposed model, the current-voltage and power-voltage characteristics under real environments can be predicted with high accuracy.

  • More than 5,000 exoplanets have been detected nowadays. One of the key motivations of exoplanet detection is to understand what physical/chemical conditions of exoplanets are suitable for harboring extraterrestrial life. Such conditions are called "habitability," and most modern studies assume the existence of liquid water as its key factor. In this paper, we review the current status of exoplanet and habitability studies, as well as some future (habitable) exoplanet survey plans, mostly from National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2018, 2021). Also, we suggest several research items that the Korean astronomy and space science community could contribute to habitability.

  • We assessed the physical habitats of Microphysogobio longidorsalis in the Han river basin. Field monitoring was conducted for ecological and habitat conditions for 11 sites from October 2008 to November 2011. Twenty species (50.0%) including M. longidorsalis and Zacco koreanus were found endemic out of the 40 species in 10 families sampled during this study period. The most frequently found species was Z. platypus (26.2%) followed by Z. koreanus (17.7%), Coreoleuciscus splendidus (14.0%) and M. longidorsalis (13.4%). For M. longidorsalis, total fist length showing the highest number of samples were 8~10 cm (50.9%). the favored habitat conditions were estimated to be 0.4~0.5 m (56.1%) for water depth, 0.2~0.9 m/s (90.4%) for flow velocity, sand (0.1~1.0 mm)~cobbles (100.0~300.0 mm)(94.5%) for substrate size and run (60.2%) for habitat type, respectively.

  • Concrete has a lower thermal conductivity or thermal diffusion coefficient compared to other building materials, so it is widely used as fireproof compartment material or refractory material for structures. However, in the event of thermal damage such as fire, cement curing agents and aggregates act differently, resulting in heat generation or deterioration of tissue due to dehydration, resulting in deterioration of physical properties and fire resistance. Therefore, in this study, the processing structure of cement paste is measured through nitrogen absorption method. The test specimen is a cement paste of 40% W/C and is set at 1000 ℃ under heating temperature conditions. As the temperature rose, the micro-pore mass below was reduced based on about 0.01 감소m, but the air gap above that was increased. Thus, in the range of pores measured in nitrogen adsorption, the air mass tended to decrease under high temperature conditions.
