Frankincense resin was applied to Hanji to improve its physical properties. The resin-treated paper showed the increasement of physical properties such as weight, thickness, and density. The highest increasement in weight and density of resin-treated paper were found at 30% treatment concentrations and the largest values of density were $41g/m^2$ Hanji. With the increasement of concentration, the brightness was decreased and transparency was improved. Of the mechanical properties of the paper, the tensile index and burst index showed the improved values. The tear index, however, was decreased. The frankincense resin showed the highest result in the tensile index of resin-treated paper and the basis weight of $41g/m^2$ Hanji. The air resistance of the resin-treated paper got improved with the increase of the concentration and $105g/m^2$ Hanji showed the highest values. The highest improvement in air resistance may make the resin-treated Hanji possible to use for semipermeable materials.
This research was performed to investigate the quality of leaflets provided with newspapers. The leaflets were classified according to business types and regions. The physical and strength properties were analyzed. The sizes of leaflets were 2, 4, 8 jeoljis of crown octavo, A3, A4, A5, and B3, B4, B5. Most of them were color printed and both-sides printing was much more popular than one-side printing. The leaflets about electronics, educations, and clothing showed lower density than restaurant business and other areas. The leaflets of electronics, educations, and clothing, and large stores showed lower tensile strength, and those of restaurant businesses and building trades showed relatively high tensile strengths. No differences on the quality of leaflets except for large stores were found according to business areas. Large markets made the leaflets with various types of papers, and low quality papers were also included.
This study was to investigate the effect of .compressive load and cyclic humidity(2$0^{\circ}C$, 65% and 90% RH) on the physical and mechanical properties of corrugated board. Corrugated boards in the study were under compressive load and under cyclic humidity, and their properties were compared to those without load. Results were summarized as follows ; 1 Statistically significant correlation was shown between the ring crush of the boards and the compressive strength of cylinder specimen made from the boards. So we could study the compressive behavior of board with cylinder specimen. 2. The boards under the compressive load increased their moisture content and thickness much more than those without load both in constant and in cyclic RH. 3. The compressive and tensile strength of board samples were inversely and closely proportional to the sheet moisture content regardless of their load and humidity history. 4. The moisture content did not show any significant proportionality to the change of burst strength of boards within this experiment. 5. Board reconditioning in standard condition led to the recovery of the strength loss that had occurred under various load and humidity condition. 6. The handsheets prepared from the boards that had experienced compressive load and cyclic humidity, and those with no-load and 65% RH did not show any significant difference in strength properties. No physical damage or load-carrying properties of the wood fiber were observed by the compressive load and cyclic humidity history.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement of fiber surface, physical properties and research the physical properties and dyeability of cotton fabrics treated with KOH solution at low and high temperature. The treatment conditions for mercerization with KOH were changed various temperatures(25, $90^{\circ}C$), concentrations(15, 20, 25, 30%. w/v) and times(30, 60, 180, 300sec). The effects of mercerization after KOH treatment estimated with tensile strength, tearing strength, shrinkage, drape stiffness, moisture regain, fiber surface, and dyeability. The optimal conditions were concentration of KOH 20%, time 180sec in low temperature and concentration of KOH 20%, time 60sec in high temperature. The results are as follows; Tensile strength, tearing strength and moisture regain were much improved than those of untreated cotton fabric. Shrinkage and drape stiffness of KOH treated cotton were more increased at $25^{\circ}C$ than $90^{\circ}C$. Fiber surface showed more rounded shape at $25^{\circ}C$ than $90^{\circ}C$. Dyeability of cotton fabrics improved by KOH treatment.
We have successfully fabricated high strengthening Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal of $70kgf/mm^2$ grade for electric device lead frame, and investigated thermal effect of the mechanical and physical properties on the Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal lead frame material at different temperatures ranging from RT to $200^{\circ}C$. The fabricated clad metal shows a good thermal stability under 6% degrading of mechanical tensile strength and hardness change at $200^{\circ}C$ and also physical properties show stable thermal and electrical conductance of over $220W/m{\cdot}K$ and 58.44% IACS upto the $200^{\circ}$. The results confirm that fabricated high strengthening Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal can be applied for the high performed electrical lead frame devices.
The bacterial cellulose(BC) has many unique properties that are potentially and commercially beneficial. In order to enhance inherently inferior physical property of chemithermomechanical pulp(CTMP) sheet, chemical pulp has been used widely. Bacterial cellulose also has an enhanced sheet strength because of its unique physical and morphological features. This study was carried out to inverstigate the effect of BC addition on physical properties of CTMP sheets. The effect of BC addition on its optical properties was also discussed. The apparent density, internal bond strength, Young's modulus, tensile strength and folding endurance of CTMP sheet are increasing with increase of BC contents. This strength increase would be attributed to the increase of relative bonding sites among pulp fibers by addition of BC which has microfibrillar structure with very high specific surface areas. There were not so significant changes in opacity of CTMP sheet upto 20% addition level of BC, while over 40% addition, the opacity gradually decreased and levelled off. Porosity is decreased with addition of BC. This decrease would be attributed to densification of sheet by fine and filamentous structure of BC fibers.
In this study, the influence of specific surface area of cement, substitution ratio of gypsum anhydrite on the physical properties of concrete were investigated by measurements of slump, air content and compressive strength. The results showed that reducing the specific surface area of cement under 3200$\textrm{cm}^2$/g and using 20% of gypsum anhydrite were desirable to prevent the decrease in workability and strength of concrete in summer season.
This study was made to investigate the effect of tensile strength(kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$), opacity (%), porosity(cc/min) of the paper manufaturing with the freeness properties of NBKP and the calcium carbonate having the different physical and chemical properties. As the results, the opacity and porosity of the freeness of NBKP, obtained good strength properties from the freeness 65$^{\circ}$SR and the tensile strength from the freeness 85$^{\circ}$SR. The strength properties of paper manufacturing loaded with calcium carbonate appears to be related to the effect of the freeness, and it was obtained the good results at opacity 83.8% in the freeness 85$^{\circ}$SR, tensile strength 3.8kg/$m^2$ porosity 87cc/min in the freeness 65$^{\circ}$SR.Addition of 50%, 55% 60%, CaCo3 was found to increase slightly the strength properties of paper.
This treatment was applied to bleached softwood kraft pulp handsheets in an effort to improve physical strength of paper. Paper strength was improved by esterification of cellulose and polycarboxylic acid. Because hydrogen bond of carboxyl group is stronger than that of hydroxyl group, polycarboxylic acid forms stronger hydrogen bond than cellulose does. 1,2,3,4,-cyclopentanetetracarboxylic acid (CPTA) and sodium dihydrogen phosphate ($NaH_2O_4$) were used as polycarboxylic acid and catalyst, respectively This reaction was confirmed by the weight gain of the handsheets, by FTIR spectrum and by changes in mechanical properties of sheets. Wet tensile strength was improved when handsheets were treated with polycarboxylic acid. However, tear strength and burst strength decreased.
This study was carried out to analyze the effects of preservation temperature and relative humidity to the physical properties of corrugated fiberboard boxes for fruit and vegetable packaging. The preservation temperature did not affect severely to physical properties of corrugated fiber-board. Relative humidity was a major cause of corrugated fiberboard box quality deterioration. The burst and compressive strengths of experimental boxes measured with Mullen high pressure tester and tong crush tester were decreased gradually as relative humidity increased from 55% to 75%. But, the strength properties slightly decreased relative humidity at 75% or higher. This tendency was the greater for single wall (SW) corrugated fiberboard box than that for double wall (DW). It is suggested that development of the water-resistant corrugated fiberboard and box be needed that can be used under the condition of low temperature and high moisture content, which are being employed in the cold chain system.
