  • The switching characteristics of As$_{10}$ Ge$_{15}$ Te$_{75}$ thin film were investigated under d.c. bias. And the frequency dependence of the conductivity was analysed with regard to the temperature dependence, in order to find the physical properties of the As$_{10}$ Ge$_{15}$ Te$_{75}$ thin film ; a characteristic relaxation time (.tau.$_{0}$ ), the spatial density of defect states (N), and the localized wavefunction (.alpha.$^{-1}$ ). It was formed that the threshold voltage depends on thickness, electrode distance, annealing time and temperature, respectively. The threshold voltage is increased as the thickness and the electrode distance is increased, while the threshold voltage is decreased in proportion to the increased annealing time and temperature.

  • Antennas were fabricated by physical(adhesive) and chemical(deposition+plating) method on organic-inorganic composite material. And antennas were measured dielectric constant and gain. Dielectric constant of antennas were fabricated by physical method was decreased with increase of adhesive tape thickness and number of conduction material composition. But antennas were fabricated by chemical method was reached to 90 % of dielectric material. Gain of antennas were fabricated by physical method was decreased with increase of adhesive tape thickness. But they were unrelated with conduction material composition. The other side antennas were fabricated by chemical method excelled more 0.8 dBic than antennas were fabricated by physical method in gain of antenna. Finally, chemical method can expect excellent product process because it can produce smaller size, higher gain and elimination of many handworks.

  • We attempted to fabricate carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNT-FET) using single walled carbon nanotube(SWNT) on the heavily doped Si substrate used as a bottom gate, source and drain electrode were fabricated bye-beam lithography on the 500 nm thick $SiO_2$ gate dielectric layer. We investigated electrical and physical properties of this CNT-FET using Scanning Probe Microscope(SPM) and conventional method based on tungsten probe tip technique. The gate length of CNT-FET was 600 nm and the diameter of identified SWNT was about 4 nm. We could observed gating effect and typical p-MOS property from the obtained $V_G-I_{DS}$ curve. The threshold voltage of CNT-FET is about -4.6V and transconductance is 47 nS. In the physical aspect, we could identified SWNT with phase mode of SPM which detecting phase shift by force gradient between cantilever tip and sample surface.

  • The electrical properties of polyethylene are changed by the superstructure. Such crystalline polymer as polyethylene or polypropylene changes crystallinity and products spherulite or trans-crystal when it is cooled slowly. In this study, after thermal treatment of LDPE at 100[${circ}C$], in silicone oil for an hour, we made specimens in order of slow cooling, water cooling, quenching according to cooling speed. Also, to study the influence of electrical properties due to the superstructure change, we analyzed physical properties and performed dielectric breakdown experiments using DC and impulse voltage Moreover we measured space charges in bulk using Laser Induced Pressure Pulse(LIPP) method. Trap level of specimen is 0.064[eV] at the low temperature region 0.31[eV] at the high temperature region in DC dielectric strength, 0.03[eV] at the low temperature region 0.0925[eV] at the high temperature region in impulse dielectric strength. As its result shows that the quantity of charges induced from the electrode surface increases with applied voltage time, and the distribution of space charges in samples increases the quantity of charges in proportion to applied voltage.

  • Carbon nanotubes [CNTs] are grown on TiN-coated Si substrates at $700^{\circ}C$ by inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD). Pre-treatment of Ni catalysts has been performed using an RF magnetron sputtering system. Structural properties and field-emission characteristics of the CNTs grown are analyzed in terms of the RF power applied and the treatment time used in the pre-treatment process. The characterization using various techniques, such as FE-SEM, AFM, and Raman spectroscopy, show that the physical dimension as well as the crystal quality of CNTs are changed by pre-treatment of Ni catalysts. It is also seen that Ni catalysts with proper grain size and uniform surface roughness may produce much better electron emission. The physical reason for all the measured data obtained are discussed to establish the relationship between the structural property and the electron emission characteristic of CNTs.

  • Ceria based electrolytes were fabricated by a plasma spraying method. The porosity which was crated during the plasma spraying process was infiltrated with Ce0.8Gd0.2O2 sol by ultrasonic treatment and heat treatment at 90$0^{\circ}C$ in order to improve physical and electrical properties. The porosity decreased from 9.8% to 6.5% and gas permeability at 80$0^{\circ}C$ decreased from 16.7$\times$10-3 to 5.7$\times$10-3 cm3(STP)/cm2.s.cmHg as the number of treatment increased 10 cycles. The ionic conductivity was also increased about 30% after 10 times of sealing.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are grown on TiN-Coated silicon substrates at $700^{\circ}C$ using an ICP-CVD method. Ni catalysts for CNT growth are formed using an RF magnetron sputtering system. Post-treatment using hydrogen ions has been performed in the ICP reactor by varying the treatment period. The characterization using various techniques, such as FESEM, HRTEM, and Raman spectroscopy, show that the physical dimension as well as the crystal quality of CNTs are changed by the post-treatment process. It is also seen that the hydrogen ion-bombardment may change the surface structure of CNTs, which may lead to produce better electron emission properties. • Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have outstanding mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Thus, by placing nanotubes into appropriate matrix, it is postulated that the resulting composites will have enhanced properties. Cold spray can produce thick metal-based composite coatings with very high density, low oxygen content, and phase purity, which leads to excellent physical properties. In this study, we applied cold spray coating process for the consolidation of Cu/CNT composite powder. The precursor powder mixture, in which CNTs were filled into copper particles, was prepared to improve the distribution of the CNT in copper matrix. Pure copper coating was also conducted by cold spraying as a reference. Annealing heat treatment was applied to the coating to examine its effect on the properties of the composite coating. The hardness of Cu/CNT composite coating represented similar value to that of pure copper coating. It was importantly found that the electrical conductivity of the Cu/CNT composite coating significantly increased from 53% for the standard condition to almost 55% in the optimized condition, taking annealed ($500^{\circ}C/1hr$.) copper coating as a reference (100%). The thermal conductivity of Cu/CNT composite coating layer was higher than that of pure Cu coating. It was also found that the electrical and thermal conductivities of Cu/CNT composite could be improved through annealing heat treatment. The microstructural evolution of Cu/CNT coating was also investigated and related to the macroscopic properties.

  • In recent years, environmental concerns have been raised on the use of poorly biodegradable fluids in electrical apparatus in regions where spills from leaks and equipment failure could contaminate the surroundings. The vegetable insulation oils are highly biodegradable, have negligible effect on the environment, human health and ecosystem. Therefore, to assure their safe use in electrical power systems, it may require some processing and modification to improve some of their physical, chemical, thermal and electrical properties. This paper provides a comparative results of the electrical breakdown properties of several vegetable insulation oils and mineral oil to use as dielectric fluid in environmental-friendly pole transformer. Also, the electrical breakdown property of the Nomex and kraft insulation papers in vegetable insulation oil is examined.
