Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with Q-35 at the dose levels of 0, 30, 100 and 300 mg/kg/day by oral gavage from gestation day 17 to lactation period. Effects of the test chemical on general findings, reproductive performance of dams and development of Fl generation were examined. There were no treatment related changes in physical signs, body weight, necropsy findings, organ weights, delivery and nursing behavior. In 100 and 300 mg/fg/day treated groups, the food consumption of dams was decreased significantly during gestational day 19~21. The gestation length of 300 mg/tg/day treated group was increased significantly compared to the control group (22.3 $\pm$0.48 vs 22.0$\pm$0.39). Although the gestational length of all groups were in normal range of the rat, potential effect of the drug could not be ruled out. External anomaly of Fl fetus induced by Q-35 was not detected in any groups. There were no treaoent related changes in physical development, reflex functions, sensory functions, locomotor activity and motor coordinating activity. Estrus cycle, fertility and reproductive performance of Fl were not changed in all treated groups. There was no external abnormality related to the drug administration on the examination of F2. These results suggest that Q-35 has no adverse effect on the peri- and postnatal period in rats except the reduction of food consumption at the beginning of drug administration and the potential effect on the elongation of gestation length.
Transparent conductive indium-tin oxide (ITO) films are widely used as transparent electrodes for flat panel displays. Many of the ITO films for practical use have been prepared by magnetron sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, electron beam evaporation, etc. An oxide target composed of 10 wt% $SnO_2$ and 90 wt% $In_2O_3$ has been deposited onto polycyclic olefin polymer (POP) substrate by electron beam evaporation. POP has a higher glass transition temperature ($Tg=330^{\circ}C$) than other conventional polymers. In this study, the effects of substrate temperature and the $O_2$ introduction flow rate were investigated in terms of physical, electrical and optical properties of deposited ITO films. We investigated the effects of processing variables such as substrate temperature and the oxygen introduction flow rate. The best electrical and optical properties of deposited ITO films obtained from this study were electrical resistivity value of ${\rho}=1.78{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and optical transmittance of about 85% at 8 sccm (Standard Cubic Centimeter per Minute) $O_2$ introduction flow rate, $5{\AA}/sec$ deposition rate, $1000{\AA}$ deposited ITO thickness and $200^{\circ}C$ substrate temperature.

In this study, the Cu catalyst decorated with activated carbon fibers were prepared for improving $SO_2$ adsorption properties. Flame retardant and heat treatments of Lyocell fibers were carried out to obtain carbon fibers with high yield. The prepared carbon fibers were activated by KOH solution for the high specific surface area and controlled pore size to improve $SO_2$ adsorption properties. Copper nitrate was also used to introduce the Cu catalyst on the activated carbon fibers (ACFs), which can induce various reactions in the process; i) copper nitrate promotes the decomposition reaction of oxygen group on the carbon fiber and ii) oxygen radical is generated by the decomposition of copper oxide and nitrates to promote the activation reaction of carbon fibers. As a result, the micro and meso pores were formed and Cu catalysts evenly distributed on ACFs. By Cu-impregnation process, both the specific surface area and micropore volume of carbon fibers increased over 10% compared to those of ACFs only. Also, this resulted in an increase in $SO_2$ adsorption capacity over 149% than that of using the raw ACF. The improvement in $SO_2$ adsorption properties may be originated from the synergy effect of two properties; (i) the physical adsorption from micro, meso and specific surface area due to the transition metal catalyst effect appeared during Cu-impregnation process and ii) the chemical adsorption of $SO_2$ gas promoted by the Cu catalyst on ACFs.

Polymer blends containing polypropylene (PP) with compatibilizers were prepared using twin screw extruder. Physical properties were investigated using universal test machine (UTM) and Izod impact tester. In the PP/acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene (ABS) blends, mechanical strength was increased with the addition of PP-g-styrene acryloritrile (PP-g-SAN) compatibilizer, and the ductility was increased with the addition of ethylene-ethyl acrylate-maleic anhydride (E-EAMAH-g-SAN) compatibilizer. For the PP/ABS/ polycarbonate (PC)/Nylon-6,6 blends, impact strength was increased with the addition of ethylene glycidylmethacrylate (E-GMA compatibilizer) up to 0.5 phr. In the case of the PP/ABS/PC/Nylon-6,6/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(oxymethylene) (POM)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVC)/poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blends, mechanical properties were increased by the complex compatibilizing effects of PP-g-SAN, E-EA-MAH-g-SAN and E-GMA, respectively.

This study deals with both effects of inorganic fillers to vulcanized rubbers such as NR, CR, EPDM, NBR & SBR and inorganic characteristics of domestic fillers in comparision with hard clay produced in the USA. The results were as follows. 1. Main ingredient of domestic clay "Ha-dong clay" was Halloysite, "No-ha Island" was Pyrophyllite with $\alpha$-Quartz, and both of "Hard clay" & "Hwa-soon clay" were proved to be Kaolinite by XRD, DT-TGA and chemical analysis by XRF. 2. Tensile strength value of SBR compounded with these fillers, was Hard clay $146kg\;f/cm^2$, Kaolinite $123kg\;f/cm^2$, Pyrophyllite $82kg\;f/cm^2$, Halloysite $80kg\;f/cm^2$, precipitated $CaCO_3\;27kg\;f/cm^2$, and ground $CaCO_3$ was $21kg\;f/cm^2$. These results showed the increase of seven times according to filler species. 3. The physical properties of non-crystalline rubbers, such as SBR, NBR & EPDM, compared with NR & CR, have been considerably changed according to crystalline phase, particle size, shape and surface structure of fillers. Especially, tensile strength value in case of SBR & EPDM, was differentiated about 1.5 times by the particle size of fillers. 4. In SBR, physical properties of rubber compounded with Kaolinite which was surface treated with fatty acid and silane, almost approach to the value of hard clay. 5. Delayed cure time of Kaolinite and decrease of rubber properties by $CaCO_3$ can be improved by blending kaolinite & $CaCO_3$ in the ratio of 2:1.

This study was investigated to evaluate the effects of fertilizer application of surface and broadcast for rice culture on the soil chemical, physical, and microbial properties as well as growth and yield of rice. The application was made with 'Dongjin 1' rice at Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services from 2008 to 2010. Soil organic matter and cation concentrations were increased by surface and broadcast applications, respectively. Plots treated by surface application tended to be higher seasonal N-mineralization rate in the organic fertilizer and seasonal soil organic matter than those of broadcast application. Soil physical properties seemed to be improved by the broadcast application, and soil microbial properties were increased by the surface application. Surface application increased 5% of rice yield compared to that of broadcast.
Calcium hydroxide is used as a root canal medicament with its several pharmacological effects. However, it has been known that the usage of calcium hydroxide in the root canal system before canal filling with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol-based cement induced change in the properties of root canal cement which might adversely affect sealing ability of the canal filling. The purpose of this study was to identify the reactivity of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound made from chemical interaction of between calcium hydroxide and zinc oxide eugenol. Chemical properties of calcium hydroxide, eugenol, zinc oxide eugenol, calcium hydroxide-eugenol and calcium hydroxide-zinc oxide eugenol compound were analyzed using XRD. FT-IR Spectrophotometer and FT-NMR Spectrometer. The results were as follows: 1. The compound made from interaction between calcium hydroxide and zinc oxide eugenol was as follows : 2. Calcium hydroxide was shown to make chemical bond (ionic bond) with eugenol. 3. Since bonding between $Ca^{2+}$ and eugenol is simple ionic nature, under water existence, calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound may be ionized easily and its physical property be deteriorated.
Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are persistent environmental pollutants, extremely stable, and possibly adversely affect human health. They are widely used in many industries and consumer goods, including sunscreen products. These substances are stable chemicals made of long carbon chains, having both lipid- and water-repellent qualities. The research objectives are (1) to find the most effective method for the preparation of semi-liquid samples by comparing solid phase extraction (SPE) and centrifugation after Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), and (2) to determine the contamination levels of PFOS and PFOA in waterproof sunscreen samples. All sunscreen samples were analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Sunscreen samples were purchased from domestic and international brands sold in Thailand. Special chemical properties were considered for the selection of samples, e.g., those found in waterproof, sweat resistant, water resistant, and non-stick products. Considering the factors of physical properties, e.g., operation time, chemical consumption, and recovery percentage for selecting methods to develop, the centrifugation method using 2 mL of extracted sample with the conditions of 12,000 rpm and $5^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour after PLE was chosen. The highest concentrations of PFOS and PFOA were detected at 0.0671 ng/g and 21.0644 ng/g, respectively. Even though present concentrations are found at ng/g levels, the daily use of sunscreen products is normally several grams. Therefore, a risk assessment of PFOS and PFOA contamination in sunscreen products is an important concern, and more attention needs to be paid to the long-term effects on human health.
Land cover changes associated with urbanization have driven climate change and pollution, which alter properties of ecosystems at local, regional, and continental scales. Thus, the relationships among urban ecological variables such as community composition, structure, health, soil and functioning need to be better understood to restore and improve urban ecosystems. In this study, we discuss urban ecosystem management and research from a futuristic perspective based on analyses of vegetation structure, composition, and successional trends, as well as the chemical properties of soils and the distribution of heat along an urban-rural gradient. Urban thermo-profile analysis using satellite images showed an obvious mitigating effect of vegetation on the Seoul heat island. Community attributes of Quercus mongolica stands reflected the effects of urbanization, such as pronounced increases in disturbance-related and pollution-tolerant species, such as Styrax japonica and Sorbus alnifolia. Retrogressive successional trends were detected in urban sites relative to those in rural sites. Changes in the urban climate and biotic environment have the potential to significantly influence the practice and outcomes of ecological management, restoration and forecasting because of the associated changes in future bio-physical settings. Thus, for management (i.e., creation and restoration) of urban green spaces, forward-thinking perspectives supported by historical information are necessary.
Reproductive and developmental toxicology is concerned with various physical or chemical agents interfering with fertility in both gender or normal growth of offsprings. Reproductive and developmental toxicology is rather a complex science, with many fields, i.e., various endpoints are involved and many different mechanisms of action. For that reason, diverse aspects must be considered when attempting to assess possible adverse health effects in the area of reproductive and developmental toxicology. The thalidomide tragedy made it clear to regulatory authorities around the world that systematic, comprehensive evaluation of the reproductive cycle was needed to adequately evaluate the potential of medicinal drugs to impair the process of reproduction or the development of embryos, fetuses, and children. International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for the Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) developed a guideline to assess the reproductive and developmental toxicity. Also these guidelines have since been applied to the detection and regulation of environmental toxicants, food additives, and so on. Although it was hoped that testing procedures of guideline would be updated constantly to reflect the current state of the science in reproductive and developmental toxicology, it was not until this decade that regulatory guidelines and testing methods have been altered in a significant way. In this paper, we would like to present the recommended approaches and recent trends for improvement of testing guidelines or experimental methods in reproductive and developmental toxicology.
