유기용매상에서 제조된 수소제조용 CdS-TiO2 나노복합 광촉매의 특성 연구 (Photoelectrochemical and Hydrogen Production Characteristics of CdS-TiO2 Nanocomposite Photocatalysts Synthesized in Organic Solvent)

  • CdS-$TiO_2$ nano-composite sol was prepared by the sol-gel method in organic solvents at room temperature and further hydrothermal treatment at various temperatures to control the physical properties of the primary particles. Again, CdS-$TiO_2$ composite particulate films were made by casting CdS-$TiO_2$ sols onto $F:SnO_2$ conducting glass and then heat-treatment at $400^{\circ}C$. Physical properties of these 61ms were further controlled by the surface treatment with $TiCl_4$, aqueous solution. The photo currents and hydrogen production rates measured under the experimental conditions varied according to the $CdS/[CdS+TiO_2]$ mole ratio and the mixed-sol preparation method. For $CdS-TiO_2$ composite sols prepared in IPA, CdS particles were homogeneously surrounded by $TiO_2$ particles. Also, the surface treatment with $TiCl_4$ aqueous solution caused a considerable improvement in the photocatalytic activity, probably as a result of close contacts between the primary particles by the etching effect of $TiCl_4$. It was found that the photoelectrochemical performance of these particulate films could be effectively enhanced by this approach.

통합 하이브리드시스템을 활용한 폐가스 처리 거동 (Time-Dependent Behavior of Waste-Air Treatment Using Integrated Hybrid System)

  • 교대로 운전되는 광촉매반응기 공정 및 바이오필터 공정[전통적 바이오필터(L 반응기)와 두 개의 유닛(Rup 및 Rdn)을 가지는 개선된 바이오필터(R 반응기)]으로 구성된 통합 하이브리드시스템(통합처리시스템)에서 에탄올과 황화수소를 동시 함유한 폐가스 처리를 성공적으로 수행하였다. 통합처리시스템의 운전 단계로서 HA1, HA2 및 폐가스의 공급 방향이 뒤바뀐 HA3T stage의 광촉매 공정에서 각각 55, 50 및 45%의 에탄올 제거효율과 각각 70, 60 및 37%의 황화수소 제거효율을 보였다. 특히, HA3T stage에서 통합처리시스템으로 공급되는 폐가스(feed)의 황화수소 농도가 10 ppmv에서 20 ppmv로 급증함에 따른 황화수소 부하량의 증가로 인하여 특히 황화수소 제거효율의 급격한 감소를 관찰하였다. 통합처리시스템의 HA1, HB1, HA2 및 HB2 stage 및 HA3T stage의 초반에, 개선된 바이오필터(R 반응기)의 각 유닛에 설치한 sampling 구들의 에탄올의 파과 순서 및 에탄올 처리효율의 크기 순서는, HA3T stage 후반과 HB3T stage의 경우에서 각각 거꾸로 바뀌었다. 한편 개선된 바이오필터(R 반응기)에서 황화수소의 경우는 파과 정도가 에탄올의 경우만큼 두드러지지는 않았으나 비슷한 추세가 관찰되었다.

UV/H2O2, UV/TiO2 시스템에서 염료의 색도 및 COD 제거 (Elimination of COD and Color of Dye by UV/H2O2, UV/TiO2 System)

  • The Photocatalytic decolorization and degradation of commercial dyes were studied using a batch reactor. Degussa P25 titanium dioxide and $H_2O_2$ were used as the photocatalyst and proved to be effective for dyes degradation when they were irradiated with UV light. The light source was a 20W low pressure mercury lamp. Three different kinds of dyes, such as direct dye(congo red), acid dye (acid black) and disperse dye(disperse blue) were tested. Extending the UV only treatment up to 120min, direct dye was decolorized to 60% and degraded to 30% as COD. On the other side, acid and disperse dyes were eliminated less than 10% as color and COD. But, color and COD were eliminated about 90% for all of the three dyes by $UV/H_2O_2$ system. And then the most effective decolorization was done for direct dye with 96% removal efficiency by $UV/TiO_2$ system at 120min with 500mg/L of $TiO_2$.

세라믹과 유리에 코팅한 TiO2 광촉매를 이용한 가스상 벤젠의 제거 (Photocatalytic Degradation of Benzene in the Gas Phase using TiO2 Coated on Ceramic and Glass Beads)

  • TiO$_2$ sol was prepared by sol-gel method, and this sol was coated in ceramic and glass bead by dip-coating method. The coated catalyst was applied to degrade benzene in the gas phase by exposing to UV -lamp (365 nm) in a batch reactor. The removal efficiency of the benzene was compared by changing various conditions such as the kind of chemical additives, the coating beads (ceramic and glass), solution pH, the initial concentration of TiO$_2$ sol, UV intensity, and benzene concentration. The physical structure of TiO$_2$ sol used in this study was found to be pu-rely anatase type from XRD analysis. The results showed that ceramic bead was effective as the coating agent rath-er than glass bead. The significant change in the benzene removal efficiency of benzene did not occur with chang-ing coating frequency and the initial concentration of TiO$_2$ sol. The removal efficiency of benzene increased with increasing UV intensity, and with acidic treatment of TiO$_2$-coated ceramic bead.

수용액에 용출된 에폭시수지 화합물의 TiO$_2$ 광분해효과와 생물독성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of TiO$_2$ Photodegradation on Leaching from Epoxy Resin Chemical in Water and Biological Toxicity)

  • Epoxy resins are mostly used as a molding material for drinking water tank. Bisphenol A is used at a constituent material for epoxy resins and is widely suspected to act as an endocrine disrupter. In this study, we investigated embryo hatching in zebrafish reared in water undergone leaching process of expoxy resin, and found a decreased survival rate. Bisphenol A eluted from epoxy resin in drinking water tank was completely degraded by TiO$_2$ photocatalysis. We detected 7.8 ng/ml of bisphenol A in epoxy resin tank, and observed that the concentration was undetectable after 48h photocatalysis over TiO$_2$. There was no toxicity in hatching rates in zebrafish and morphogenesis after photocatalysis. The effect of TiO$_2$ photocatalytic reactions on the catalase activities in the f]y stage of zebrafish was also examined. At 1 week post hatching, cataiase activities were higher both in the group of epoxy resin with 48 h TiO$_2$ photocatalysis and in the TiO$_2$ photocatalysis for 48 hours were higher than control group. However catalase activities of the treatment group of epoxy resin by TiO$_2$ photocatalysis for 48 hours were similar to control in 5 weeks post hatching fries. In conclusion, the toxicity of TiO$_2$ photocatalysis was not observed in this zebrafish.

Hydrothermally synthesized Al-doped BiVO4 as a potential antibacterial agent against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

  • One-pot hydrothermal route was adopted to synthesize Al:BiVO4, at 4 h and 8 h reaction durations, by adding 1% aluminiumoxide powder (w/v) to the precursors. The products were investigated using several characterization techniques that conform a significant morphological change and a decrease in bandgap energy of the materials upon Al modification of scheelite monoclinic bismuth vanadate matrix at both hydrothermal durations. Antibacterial experiments were performed against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in visible light condition to harness the photoxidation property of Al-doped BiVO4 and compare to that of unaltered BiVO4. Minimum inhibitory concentration of the synthesized materials was identified. The results indicate that Al-doping on BiVO4 has a significant effect on its photocatalytic antibacterial performance. Al:BiVO4 synthesized at 8 h hydrothermal treatment parades excellent sunlight-driven photocatalysis compared to the one synthesized at 4 h.

Photodegradation of Rhodamine B in $TiO_2$ suspension

  • In recent years, rapid technological advances in the textile and dyeing industry have yielded benefits to society but have also generated new and significant environmental problems. The treatment alternatives applicable for the removal of color vary, depending upon the type of dye wastewater Advanced oxidation processes are considered to provide more permanent merits. One of these oxidation treatments attracting much attention is photocatalytic oxidation, which uses TiO$_2$ due to its non-toxic, insoluble liquid as well as a highly reactive nature under UV irradiation. This study sets out to demonstrate the effect of photocatalyst dosage, dye concentrations, pH and light intensity on color removal efficiency under aerobic conditions. The results of this study show Rhodamine B(RhB) was not decolorized when a dye solution was exposed only to air or treated by TiO$_2$ only In the presence of both TiO$_2$ and UV light, however, the presence of RhB decreased up to 95 % within 60minutes. The more addition TiO$_2$ and the more diluted dye solution, showed a higher removal rate.

광화학 반응을 이용한 고도 수처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Water Advanced Water Treatment by Photochemical Reaction)

  • The Photodegradation efficient of total organic compounds in the drinking water has been studied using the methods of photocatalytic reaction and laser beam irradation. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The photodegradation efficiency of total organic compounds shows as $50\%\;to\;80\%$ as within one hour and after this the efficiency is decreased slowly. 2. The photodegradation efficiency of total organic compounds shows as 65 to $90\%$ within 3.3min. when Nd : YAG beam is irradiated to the water layer. 3. An excellent observation of the organic compound removal efficiency gives revealed in that case of the longest wavelength of 532nm is irradiated among the three kinds of laser beam sources of 532nm, 355nm and 266nm. 4. The organic compound removal efficiency shows high in the case of UV beam irradiation in the thin layer of water. However the efficiency is not depended on the thickness of water layer severely. 5. The removal efficiency of the organic compounds in the direct irradiation shows higher than the indirect irradiation in the case of UV beam, but the efficiency is not depended on the direction of irradiation in the case of Nd : YAG beam irradiation.

Fabrication, Optoelectronic and Photocatalytic Properties of Some Composite Oxide Nanostructures

  • This is an overview paper reporting our most recent work on processing and microstructure of nano-structured oxides and their photoluminescence and photo-catalysis properties. Zinc oxide and related transition metal oxides such as vanadium pentoxide and titanium dioxide were produced by a combination of magnetron sputtering, hydrothermal growth and atmosphere controlled heat treatment. Special morphology and microstructure were created including nanorods arrays, core-brushes, nano-lollipops and multilayers with very large surface area. These structures showed special properties such as much enhanced photoluminescence and chemical reactivity. The photo-catalytic properties have also been promoted significantly. It is believed that two factors contributed to the high reactivity: the large surface area and the interaction between different oxides. The transition metal oxides with different band gaps have much enhanced photoluminescence under laser stimulation. Use of these complex oxide structures as electrodes can also improve the energy conversion efficiency of solar cells. The mixed oxide complex may provide a promising way to high-efficiency photo emitting materials and photo-catalysts.

Durability and mechanical performance in activated hwangtoh-based composite for NOx reduction

  • Activated hwangtoh (ACT) is a natural resource abundant in South Korea, approximately 15.0% of soil. It is an efficient mineral admixture that has activated pozzolanic properties through high-temperature heating and rapid cooling. The purpose of this study is to improve a curb mixture that can reduce NOx outside and investigate durability performance. To this end, mortar curb specimens were manufactured by replacing OPC with ACT. The ACT substitution ratios of 0.0, 10.0, and 25.0% were considered, and mechanical and durability tests on the curb specimens were conducted at 28 and 91 days of age. Steam curing was carried out for three days for the production of curbs, which was very effective to strength development at early ages. The reduction in strength at early ages could be compensated through this process, and no significant performance degradation was evaluated in the tests on chloride attack, carbonation, and freezing and thawing. The mortar curb with an ACT of 10.0~25.0% replacement ratio exhibited clear NOx reduction through photocatalytic (TiO2) treatment. This is due to the increase in physical absorption through surface absorption and the photocatalyst-containing TiO2 coating. In this study, the reasonable range of the ACT replacement ratio for NOx reduction was quantitatively evaluated through a comprehensive analysis of each test.
