  • Photo-induced surface alignment is charming as a non-contact photo-patternable alignment technology which can be used in the next generation of displays, such as large area, multi-domain. For decades, many polymer film have been investigated and developed to be used in the photo alignment. Among these photoreactive materials, recently developed polyimide, Chloromethylated Polyimide(CMPI) now became the focus of interests in this area because of its high photosensitivity and superior thermal stability. In this report, we present micro patterning method to form the nanoscale structure by Mask-Less laser patterning using this CMPI film and NSOM probe.

High resolution patterning of polyfluorene derivative containing photo cross-linkable oxetane units

  • We have synthesized a photo patternable blue lightemitting polyfluorene (PF) derivative containing cross-linkable oxetane units. Poly(9,9-bis-(4-octyloxyphenyl)- fluorene-2,7-diyl-alt-9,9-bis-((3-hexyloxy-3'- ethyl)-oxetane)-fluorene-2,7-diyl) has been synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization. The relationship between patterning property and several variables such as the intensity of the exposed UV light, the concentrations of additives, has been studied by using optical microscope UV/visible spectroscopy, photoluminescence and scanning electron microscope (SEM). We obtained fine patterns with 10 mm resolution using the polymer film after exposure and development. This patterning method using conjugated polymers can be applicable to make fine pixels for PLEDs and OFETs.

Fabrication of Photosensitive Polymer Resistor Paste and Formation of Finely-Patterned Thick Film Resistors (감광성 폴리머 저항 페이스트 제조와 미세패턴 후막저항의 형성)

  • Using an alkali-solution developable photosensitive resin and a carbon black as a conductive filler, photo-patternable pastes for polymer thick film resistor were fabricated and evaluated. A photo solder resist (PSR), which is usually used as protecting layer of printed circuit board (PCB), was used as a photosensitive resin so that ultraviolet exposure and alkali-aqueous solution development of paste were possible. After fabricating the photosensitive polymer resistor paste, the electrical properties of thick film resistors were measured using PCB test boards. Sheet resistance was decreased with increasing amount of carbon black, but the developability was limited in excess loading of carbon black. The sheet resistance was also reduced by re-curing and the change rate was smaller in higher carbon black loading. Moreover, finely patterned meander-type thick film resistors were fabricated using photo-process and large resistance up to several tens of sheet resistance could be obtained in small area by this technique.

  • We have developed new in-cell retarder materials that provide good transmittance and resolution with the goal of enhancing the properties of transflective IPS-LCDs. We explored various additive surfactants to optimize the applicability of the materials. Moreover, we selected photopolymerization initiators and liquid crystal diacrylate monomers as negative-type photo-patternable retarder materials, seeking to improve resolution and transmittance.
