In SiH4/H2 discharge for growth process of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H), silane polymers, produced by SiH2 + Sin-1H2n ${\rightarrow}$ SinH2n+2, have no reactivity on the film-growing surface. However, under the SiH2 rich condition, high silane reactive species (HSRS) can be produced by electron collision to silane polymers. HSRS, having relatively strong reactivity on the surface, can react with dangling bond and form Si-H2 networks which have a close correlation with photo-induced degradation of a-Si:H thin film solar cell [1]. To find contributions of suggested several external plasma conditions (pressure, frequency and ratio of mixture gas) [2,3] to suppressing productions of HSRS, some plasma characteristics are studied by numerical methods. For this study, a zero-dimensional global model for SiH4/H2 discharge and a one-dimensional particle-in-cell Monte-Carlo-collision model (PIC-MCC) for pure SiH4 discharge have been developed. Densities of important reactive species of SiH4/H2 discharge are observed by means of the global model, dealing 30 species and 136 reactions, and electron energy probability functions (EEPFs) of pure SiH4 discharge are obtained from the PIC-MCC model, containing 5 charged species and 15 reactions. Using global model, SiH2/SiH3 values were calculated when pressure and driving frequency vary from 0.1 Torr to 10 Torr, from 13.56 MHz to 60 MHz respectively and when the portion of hydrogen changes. Due to the limitation of global model, frequency effects can be explained by PIC-MCC model. Through PIC-MCC model for pure SiH4, EEPFs are obtained in the specific range responsible for forming SiH2 and SiH3: from 8.75 eV to 9.47 eV [4]. Through densities of reactive species and EEPFs, polymerization reactions and production of HSRS are discussed.
Among the recent research ideas to reduce hydrocarbon emissions emitted from SI engines till light-off of catalyst since cold start are those exploiting non-thermal plasma technique and photo-catalyst that draws recent attention by virtue of its successful application to practical use to clean up the atmosphere using the feature of its relative independence on temperature. Based on the previous research results obtained with model exhaust gases using an experimental emissions reduction system that utilizes the non-thermal plasma and photo-catalyst technique, further investigation was conducted on a production N/A 1.5 liter DOHC engine during cold start to warm-up. For the effects of non-thermal plasma-photocatalyst combined reactor, 10% concentration reduction was achieved with the fuel component paraffins, and the large increase in non-fuel paraffinic components and acetylene concentrations were similar to those of base condition. However the absolute value was locally a bit higher than those of base condition since the products was made from the dissociation and decomposition of highly branched paraffins by plasma-photocatalyst reactor. Olefinic components were highly decomposed by about 75%, due to these excellent decompositions of olefins which have relatively high MIR values, and the SR value was 1.87 that is 30% reduction from that of base condition, then, the photochemical reactivity was lowered.
Titania gel formations were prepared by sol-gel method using titanium(IV) chloride $(TiCl_4)$, and its characteristics were analyzed by varying the $epoxide/TiCl_4$ ratio and the amount of water In the end, titania $(TiO_2)$ aerogel were prepared using supercritical drying process. VOCs such as benzene, toluene, and m-xylene (BTX) were oxidized using prepared titania aerogel and commercially available $TiO_2$, and its performance was compared. The surface area, pore volume, and average pore diameter of 1,2-epoxybutane are significantly smaller than the propylene oxide. And the titania aerogels with 6 moi of epoxides have high surface areas, pore volumes, and average pore diameters. As a result of photo-oxidation, conversion of benzene was reached about $70\%$, and other reactants were reached about $60\%$ similarly. The conversion of BTX was increased as inlet concentration decreased. The reactivity of titania calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ was greater than $400^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$. Water is required as a reactants for the oxidation of VOCs, and the continuous consumption of hydroxyl radicals required replenishments to maintain catalyst activity. The activity ratio increased with increasing reaction time when enough amount of water was present in the reactor.

The decomposition of 50 pesticides present in an aqueous solution using ${\gamma}-irradiation$ from a $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray source was investigated using laboratory-scale experiment. The rates of decomposition were determined using a gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD), high-performance liquid chromatography-photo diode array detector (HPLC-PDA), and HPLC-fluorescence detector (FLD). When the initial concentration of pesticides was 10 ppm, and the radiation dose was 2, 5, 10, 20, and 30 kGy, respectively, 14 pesticide samples showed high removal rates (>50%) at absorbed doses of more than 10 kGy. With the exception of procymidone, they were all completely removed at a 30 kGy irradiation dose. These results provide fundamental data on the reactivity between gamma-irradiation and pesticides in an aqueous solution. Further, an evaluation of the toxicity of radiolytic intermediate products is required.
Although the bulk composition of materials is one of the major considerations in extractive metallurgy and environmental science, surface composition and topography control surface reactivity, and consequently play a major role in determining metallurgical phenomena and pollution by heavy metals and organics. An understanding of interaction mechanisms of different chemical species at the mineral surface in an aqueous media is very important in natural environment and metallurgical processing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been used as an ex-situ analytical technique, but the material to be analyzed can be any size from $100\;{\mu}m$ up to about 1 cm. It can also measure mixed solids powders, but it is impossible to ascertain the original source of resulting x-ray signals where they were emitted from, since it radiates and scans the macro sample surface area. The study demonstrated the ability of TOF-SIMS to detect individual organic species on the surfaces of mineral particles from plant samples and showed that the TOF-SIMS techniques provides an excellent tool for establishing the surface compositions of mineral grains and relative concentrations of chemicals on mineral species.
UV-curable aliphatic epoxy acrylates were prepared by the reaction of glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE) with 2-carboxyethyl acrylate (2-CEA) or 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (2-HEA). The structures of the epoxy acrylates were characterized by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, and $^{13}C$-NMR and the yield was obtained by prep-LC. The UV- and the thermal-curing behaviors of the product were investigated using photo-DSC and DSC, respectively. The reactivity of 2-CEA was higher than 2-HEA and the yield of the product (GEA-C) which was prepared using 2-CEA was about 83%. The maximum UV-curing time ($T_{max}$) of the GEA-C contained non-reactive components and by-product was about 10 seconds. The GEA-C showed low color difference (${\Delta}E^*$), low viscosity, and good thermal stability - its value was 2.51, 192 cps, and $299^{\circ}C$ (at 5% weight loss), respectively. The activation energies ($E_a$) of thermal-curing reaction calculated from Kissinger and Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method were 91~92 kJ/mol.
A soluble polyamide containing photosensitive l,4-phenylenediacrylic acid (PDA) in main chain with biphenyl moiety was synthesized. The chemical structure of synthesized polyamide was investigated by means of $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The polymer was stable up to $280^{\circ}C$ and soluble in organic solvents, giving a good quality of thin films. The photoreaction of unpolarized LTV irradiated films was investigated by means of UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and FTlR spectroscopy, and liquid crystals (LCs) alignment property was examined by exposing to linearly polarized UV light (LPUVL) of 260~380 nm. The polyamide in film has excellent photoreactivity to unpolarized UV light. Direction selective photoreaction of PDA moiety in Lhe film was found to further induce nematic liquid -crystals to align along a perpendicular direction with respect to the electric vector of LPUVL, regardless of exposure energy of LPUVL. In addition, pretilt angle was measured by means of crystal rotation method. LPUVL-exposed polymer film induced the alignment of liquid-crystals (LC) with a pretilt angle of 0.2~$0.5^{\circ}$.
The current study evaluated the air quality of the smoking booth equipped with the air purification system consisting of photocatalysts and air filters by measuring the concentrations of hazardous substances of tobacco smoke such as CO, HCHO, $CH_3CHO$, PM10 and PM2.5. To enhance the removal efficiency of hazardous substances, an infrared ray was exposed to improve the reactivity of OH radical generated from the photocatalyst toward environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) gas phase hazardous materials. It was found that the smoking booth with the air purification system improved the removal efficiency of hazardous substances containing formaldehyde by 85.2% compared to that of the smoking booth without any purification systems. In addition, the removal efficiency of the fine dust after treatment was enhanced up to 89.4%.
Visible-light responsive $TiO_2$:Zr, N powders were prepared by polymer complex solution method and the particle properties were characterized by using transmission electron microscope, BET method, X-ray diffractometer and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The photocatalytic reactivity of the catalysts was also estimated by analyzing NO degradation. Polyhedral $TiO_2$ powder having about 20 um in the average particle diameter was successfully prepared, The XRD analysis revealed that the as-prepared powder consisted of anatase and rutile phases. The light absorption of the as-prepared $TiO_2$:Zr, N powder was shifted to the visible light. In addition, the as-prepared $TiO_2$:Zr, N nanoparticles showed the higher photocatalytic activity than the commercial $TiO_2$ under both UV and visible lights.
Characteristics of organophoshhorus pesticides (OPs) distribution were investigated in Shingu Reservoir, as a shallow eutrophic agriculture reservoir in Korea. In August 2006, IBP, DDVP and dyfonate were detected in the water column of Singu Reservoir, ranging from 1340.7 to 16030.1 ng $L^{-1}$, 58.7 to 127.6 ng $L^{-1}$ and N.D. to 20.3 ng $L^{-1}$, respectively, However, in September 2006, mevinfos, ethoprofos, phorate, chlorfenvinfos, and methidathion were also found in addition to IBP (202.5${\sim}$213.2 ng $L^{-1}$), DDVP (100.7${\sim}$340.6 ng $L^{-1}$) and dyfonate (N.D.${\sim}$25.0 ng $L^{-1})$. Maximum concentrations of OPs were observed at the middle depth in August, which might be related with photo-oxidation. On the other hand, IBP and DDVP among the OPs were detected in suspended particles, suggesting the relatively active adsorption reactivity. The composition of OPs varied temporally on account of the influence of inflow water from its surrounding areas. In the present study, the observed OPs concentrations seem to be not acute toBic levels to aquatic organisms in Shingu Reservoir, considering the standard monitoring levels of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Japan Ministry of Environment.
