To study solar activated insecticide, three types of dihydroxyl phosphorus(V) triazatetrabenzocorrole derivatives ($P(OH)_2TBCs$) including H, 4'-methoxy phenoxy, 4'-tert butyl phenoxy substituents were synthesized. The results show that slightly red-shift with introducing substituents was observed and singlet oxygen was generated by the sunlight. Based on photochemical properties, solar activated insecticidal activity tests against Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) were carried out. Overall insecticidal activities were 100~85.7% in the concentration of 500ppm, and especially in the case of compound $P(OH)_2TBC$ the insecticidal activities was 100%.
Organophosphorus insecticide residues were investigated in six kinds of fruits and five kinds of vegetables. The materials used in this experiment were grape, musk melon, apple, peach, plum, apricot, lettuce, green pepper, cucumber, pumpkin and tomato which were collected from June to september 1986 in Seoul. Residual pesticides investigated were Diazinon, Parathion, MEP (Fenitrothion), Malathion, EPN, MPP (Fenthion), PAP (Phenthoate) and Dimethoate and all samples were analysed by gas chromatographic technique with NPD (Nitrogen Phosphorus Detector). No sample was found to approach proposed national maximum residue limits in Korea.
Fenitrothion-degrading microorganisms were isolated from 124 sampling sites of paddy, upland, forest and polluted soil, and wastewater. A total of 1,071 strains were isolated from each selective medium supplemented with 50mg/l of fenitrothion - nutrient agar (NA) 601, potato dextrose agar (PDA) 201, Actinomycetes isolation agar (AIA) 168 and basal salt medium (BSM) 101, respectively. Twenty-eight effective strains of them, which showed more than 80% degradation of fenitrothion by the gasliquid chromatography(GLC) analysis. were successfully selected from each liquid culture supplemented with 50mg/l of fenitrothion - NB 12(upland soil 3, paddy soil 3, forest soil 2, polluted soil 4), PDB 8(upland soil 1, paddy soil 2, forest soil 2, polluted soil 3) and PSB 8(upland soil 1, forest soil 1, polluted soil 6), respectively. Four strains - NPal, NFol, PFol and BPol, which have the most powerful degradation activity were finally selected among 28 fenitrothion-degrading microorganisms based on the degradation rate at the concentration of 100mg/l fenitrothion in enrichment media.
The organic phosphorus compounds have been widely used as an insecticide, since toxicity of these compounds is especially drastic to the insects than to men and other mammals. The organic phosphates are rapidly hydrolized and hence have little cumulative and ecologic effects. However, due to their acute toxic effects organophosphate have recorded rather high fatalities in men and domestic animals. The organic phosphorus compounds are powerful inhibitors to the carboxylic esterase enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase and pseudocholinesterase. As a result of firm binding characteristics of phosphate radicals to the active sites of enzyme, the activities of these enzymes are inhibited by the organophosphates. The organophosphates such as diazinon is easily observed from skin, gastrointestinal tract, conjunctivas and respiratory tract, and it is converted to more toxic form during metabolism in the liver The present study was carried out in order to investigate the hepatotoxicity of diazinon by observing the changes in the ultrastructure of cytoplasmic organelles of hepatic cells in albino mice. The animals were killed at 6, 12 and 24 hours after administration of 25mg/kg diazinon. The piece of hepatic tissue obtained from each animal was ultrathinly sectioned. The specimens stained by uranyl acetate and lead citrate double contrast methods were observed with JEM model 100B electron microscope. The results obtained were as follows: 1) A prominent dilatation and sacculation of the cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum associated with detachment of membrane bound-ribosomes, and disaggregation of the free ribosomes were recognized. 2) The hypertrophy of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum associated with depletion of the glycogen particles was observed. 3) The atrophy of cisternae of Golgi complex was observed. 4) A large number of secondary lysosomes (autophagic vacuoles and residual bodies) were formed. Consequently it is suggested that diazinon would induce disorganization of the cytoplasmic organelles of hepatocytes in albino mice.
The residue analysis of the insecticide thiodicarb in sweet persimmon was analyzed with a gas chromatograph equipped with nitrogen phosphorus detector(NPD) to evaluate efficacy of analysis method and safety of thiodicarb in persimmon. Minimum detectable amount of methomyl oxime, hydrolysate of thiodicarb, was 0.2 ng and detection limit of thiodicarb was 0.05 ppm. The mean recoveries evaluated from untreated samples spiked at 0.5 ppm and 2.5 ppm were $93.9{\pm}3.9$ and $92.8{\pm}2.0%$, respectively. When thiodicarb was sprayed onto the sweet persimmon two times until 40 and 30 days before harvest, three times until 40, 30 and 21 days before harvest, and four times until 40, 30, 21 and 14 days before harvesting, the mean residual amount in sweet persimmon were $1.50{\pm}0.04$, $1.86{\pm}0.04$ and $2.11{\pm}0.12$ ppm, respectively. It would be safe when thiodicarb 40% WP is treated four times 14 days before harvesting to control fruit moth in sweet persimmon.

It is investigated to determine the removal efficiency of organic - phosphorus insecticide residues in lettuce by washing processes, the 5 washing solution (stagnant tap water, flowing tap water, alkaline solution, acidic solution) were used with the washing time(10, 30, 50sec) and frequencies(1, 2, 3 washing, 2 rinsing). The removal efficiency of residual pesticides by 5 washing methods was increased on the more washing time and frequency, and also was the highest on the 3 times washing for each 50 sec. The removal rate with stagnant tap water was 33.7% of Diazinon, 45.7% of Dimethoate and 24.6% of Fenitrothion, but 29.4% of Diazinon, 37.7% of Dimethoate and 24.5% of Fenitrothion with flowing tap water. Therefore, the former was significantly higher effective than the latter one. The removal rate of residual pesticides with alkaline solution showed 32.1% of Diazinon, 49.5% of Dimethoate and 29.9% of Fenitrothion, and 30.4% of Diazinon, 36.4% of Dimethoate and 21.0% of Fenitrothion with acidic solution. The washing efficiency of neutral detergent showed the most effective result than others with 47.1% of Diazinon, 58.0% of Dimethoate and 39.5% of Fenitrothion. Consequently, it's appeared that the neural detergent washing was the most effective method on the 3 times washing for each 50 sec.
A study was carried out to find out the methodology of biological treatment for wastes and wastewater caused by an organophosporus insecticide, fenitrothion, using fenitrothion-degrading microorganism. A fenitrothion-degrading microorganism was isolated by using a selective nutrient broth (NB) medium including fenitrothion, and identified to Bacillus sphaericus NFol based on its morphological and biochemical characteristics. Further, investigation was processed to determine the optimal culture conditions degrading fenitrothion in NB medium by using the NFo1 strain. As results, the cultural conditions determined for temperature, initial pH and inoculum for the optimum growth of the strain and degradation of fenitrothion, which has a exact co-relationship between both of them, were $35^{\circ}C$, 7.5 and 1.5 at $OD_{660}$ value, respectively. In this conditions, fenitrothion could be degraded within 5 days over 90% at the high concentrations of fenitrothion, upto 200 mg/L.
Isocarbophos is a widely used organophosphorus insecticide that has caused environmental pollution in many areas. However, degradation of isocarbophos by pure cultures has not been extensively studied, and the degradation pathway has not been determined. In this paper, a highly effective isocarbophos-degrading strain, scl-2, was isolated from isocarbophos-polluted soil. The strain scl-2 was preliminarily identified as Arthrobacter sp. based on its morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties, as well as 16S rDNA analysis. The strain scl-2 could utilize isocarbophos as its sole source of carbon and phosphorus for growth. One hundred mg/l isocarbophos could be degraded to a non detectable level in 18 h by scl-2 in cell culture, and isofenphos-methyl, profenofos, and phosmet could also be degraded. During the degradation of isocarbophos, the metabolites isopropyl salicylate, salicylate, and gentisate were detected and identified based on MS/MS analysis and their retention times in HPLC. Transformation of gentisate to pyruvate and fumarate via maleylpyruvate and fumarylpyruvate was detected by assaying for the activities of gentisate 1,2-dioxygenase (GDO) and maleylpyruvate isomerase. Therefore, we have identified the degradation pathway of isocarbophos in Arthrobacter sp. scl-2 for the first time. This study highlights an important potential use of the strain scl-2 for the cleanup of environmental contamination by isocarbophos and presents a mechanism of isocarbophos metabolism.

Diazinon is a phosphorothiate insecticide widely used in the world including Korea. This study investigates the feasibility of photolysis and photocatalysis processes for the degradation of diazinon in water. Both photolysis and photocatalysis reactiosn were effective in degrdading diazinon, however lower TOC removals were achieved. In case of photocatalysis, approximately 40% of nitrogen from diazinon was recovered as NO$_3^-$, and less than 5% of phosphorus as PO$_4{^{3-}}$. However, the sulfur in diazinon molecule was completely recovered to SO$_4{^{2-}}$ from photocatalysis reaction, and the recovery from photolysis was 50%, indicating that P=S bond easily breaks first during photolysis and photocatalysis. The poor recoveries of ionic byproducts and TOC from photolysis and photocatalysis indicate the presence of other organic intermediates during reactions. The formation of organic intermediates were identified during reactions using GC/MS and LC/MS/MS, and the main degradation products were diazoxon, and 2-isopropyl-4-methyl-6-hydroxypyrimidine (IMP), respectively. Finally, the acute 48-hr toxicity test using Daphnia magna were employed to measure the toxicity reduction during photocatalysis of degradation. The results showed that the toxicity increased until 180 min of the photocatalysis reaction (from EC$_{50}$ (%) of 69.6 to 13.2%), however, acute toxicity completely disappeared (>100%) after 360 min. The toxicity results showed that the intermediates from photocatalysis such as diazoxon were more toxic than diazinon itself, however these intermediates can be degraded or mineralized with further reaction.

The purpose of this study was to investigate 253 kinds of pesticide residues in 58 commercial dried agricultural products in Seoul. The determinations of the pesticide residues were performed using multiresidue methods and were carried out by a gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC-NPD), an electron capture detector ($GC-{\mu}ECD$), a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MSD) and high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV), and a fluorescence detector (HPLC-FLD). The pesticide residue detection rate in the commercial dried agricultural products was 24.1% (14 of 58 samples). Twelve pesticide residues without maximum residue limits (MRLs) were detected. In the vegetable groups, the frequency of pesticide residues was found to be in the increasing order of dried fruiting vegetables > dried leafy vegetables > dried stalk and stem vegetables. The pesticides used on dried red pepper in the dried fruiting vegetables were varied (7 kinds) and numerous (4 of 8 samples). The pesticide types detected in the commercial dried agricultural products were in the order of pyrethroid > organochloride > organophosphorus and insecticide > fungicide > herbicide ${\cdot}$ nematicide. The primary pyrethroid pesticide detected was cypermethrin. According to the producing areas of products, large numbers of pesticide residues were found in the order of Korea, China, North Korea, USA, and Vietnam.
