Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the time and content of dietary education by analyzing the physiological indicators of hemodialysis patients during their first year and to present baseline data related to dietary education for patients on hemodialysis. Methods: For this retrospective study physiological indicators for 73 patients on hemodialysis were analyzed. Data included levels of potassium, phosphorus, albumin and the IDWG rate, and Kt/V during the first year after starting hemodialysis. Repeated-measure ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. Results: Serum levels of phosphorus (p<.006), albumin (p<.001) and the IDWG rate (p<.001) increased significantly in the 7 months from the start of hemodialysis. Conclusion: The results indicate that the period in which diet related educational intervention is necessary is before physiological changes, that is, after 6 months of dialysis. The contents for effective education should include phosphorus-limited and weight control dietary restrictions at 6 months.

The aim of this study is to enhance the flame retardancy by the synergism effect of phosphorus and bromine groups. The flame-retardant polyurethane coatings containing phosphorus and bromine compounds were synthesized. After synthesizing the intermediate products of tetramethylene bis(orthophosphate) (TBOP) and trimethylolpropane/2,3-dibromopropionic acid (2,3-DBP) [2,3-DBP-adduct], the condensation polymerization was performed with four different monomers of two intermediate products, 1,4-butanediol, and adipic acid to obtain four-components copolymer. In the condensation polymerization, the content of phosphorus was fixed to be 2wt%, and the content of 2,3-DBP that provides bromine component was varied to be 10, 20, and 30wt%, and we designated the prepared modified polyesters containing phosphorus and bromine as DTBA-10C, -20C, -30C. Average molecular weight and polydispersity index of the preparation of DTBAs were decreased with increasing 2,3-DBP content because of increase of hydroxyl group that retards reaction. We found that the thermal stability of the prepared DTBAs increased with bromine content at high temperature.
The flame retarded NBR foams were prepared with metal hydroxides and various phosphorus/nitrogen-contain ing flame retardants. The dependency of the phosphorus content on thermal properties, flame retardancy, smoke density, and foaming properties were investigated in the foams. Foaming properties and morphology of the flame retarded NBR foams with P/N flame retardants( ${\le}10 phr$) were similar to those of the foams without P/N ones but containing metal hydroxides The flame retardancy of the foams was improved with increasing the phosphorus content and char formation under combustion atmosphere. The cone-calorimeter test and LOI index were also coincided with the TGA analysis quite well. The heat release rate (HRR), total heat release (THR), and effective heat of combustion (EHC) were decreased, whereas the carbon monoxide yield was increased with increase of the phosphorus content of P/N flame retardant. The smoke density values were closely related with CO yield values obtained by the cone-calorimeter test due to the high and hard char formation.
Phosphorus dynamics in terms of specific absorption rate, inflow and outflow rates. turnover rate, demand and supply, and utility index of a high yield Zea mays L. cv. Bokgyo field were evaluated using an analysis of successive production structures. The analysis was adopted for measuring quantitative changes in the population by stratified clip technique on every two weeks during the growing season. The seasonal trends of specific absorption rate (2. 4 mg P/g/day in maximum) and specific absorption efficiency (0. 03) closely correlated with that of relative growth rate of the population. The overall inflow and outflow of phosphorus was 3.41 g P/$m^2$/yr showing the maximum inflow of 2.99 g P/$m^2$/month in July. While the maximum phosphorus standing crop was 1.4 g P/$m^2$ showing the maximum turnover rate of 178% in late June. The accumulation of phosphorus along plant height declined monotonically in stems and roots but increased in foliage after heading. The proportions of the total annual demand of phosphorus were 24.4% for leaves, 22.5% for stems, 49.6% for fruits and 3.5% for roots. These demands were met with internal (18.2 %) and external (81.8 %) supplies. The seasonal highest phosphorus utility index was 1,091 in early June, while the average value was 655.
There are remarkable differences in growth and morphological characters of roots between mountain and field cultivated Panax ginseng. Growth of root in mountain cultivated ginseng was much slower than that of field cultivated ginseng. However, the factor affecting the retarded growth in mountain ginseng was not known. Soil analysis revealed that phosphorus (P) content of mountain soil was exceptionally low at least ten-fold lower compared to that of field soil. Thus, we suggest that low availability of P in mountain soil may be one of the limiting factors for growth of ginseng in mountain soil environment. We had monitored the growth of ginseng plants after one and three years of phosphate fertilizer application. Three kinds of phosphate fertilizers: fused magnesium phosphate, fused superphosphate, and single superphosphate were applied to mountain soil. Application of phosphate fertilizers increased the fresh-, dry weight, and diameter of ginseng roots and resulted in increased P accumulation in roots. These results demonstrate that slow growth of ginseng in mountain soil environment might be attributed to the low P content in mountain soil. Thus, analysis of P amount in mountain soil will be a good indicator for the selection of suitable site the ginseng cultivation in forest.
It has a limitation to satisfy the phosphorus effluent criteria of 0.2 mg/L which will be reinforced from 2012 with the Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) process. The chemical coagulation process has been operated in parallel with the biological treatment process for advanced treatment of phosphorous in the developed countries including Europe. However, the coagulation process has some disadvantages such as the desired goal may not be achieved without injecting the optimum dosage of the coagulant. This study developed the automatic control system to inject the optimum dosage of phosphorous coagulant into the coagulation process. The adopted coagulant was 10% Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) in this study. The automatic control system developed in this study was adopted for the treatment of the phosphorus from the effluent in SBR process. The automatic control system was composed of the data receiving part, the optimum coagulant dosage control part and the data transmit part. The result of the phosphorous advanced treatment of the SBR effluent using the automatic control system showed the removing efficiency over 95% consistently with the phosphorous concentration under 0.02 ~ 0.15 mg/L. The reproducibility analysis for checking the safety of automatic control system showed more than 95% correlation.
An analysis of collected data on components of dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) and DOP is made to search for important components of DOP pool and their implications in phosphorus (P) cycling. The significance of dissolved nucleic acids (D-NA) apparently tends to increase with increasing trophic status of oceanic waters. Interestingly the sum of all 5-nucleotide and D-NA seems to dominate the DOP pool. Thus, materialization of D-NA could be a significant pathway of P cycling in surface oceanic waters and it might be of great importance in lakes where P limits primary production. Processes related to death of Microbes are responsible for D-NA and DOP production in surface waters, and incomplete digestion of preys by grazers seems to be an important mechanism in D-NA production.
The effects of suspended solids size on culture water quality were determined in a commercial recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica. The particulate phase of the culture water was serially divided into six size fractions using 300, 200, 100, 75, 45, and 26 ${\mu}m$ pore size stainless sieves. The total, dissolved, and particulate nitrogen and phosphorus, and suspended solids for each fraction were determined. The concentration ranges in the fractions were: total nitrogen, 164-148 mg $L^{-1}$; total phosphorus, 20.4-15.5 mg $L^{-1}$; and total suspended solids, 8.1-6.1 mg $L^{-1}$. The concentration of total nitrogen and total phosphorus decreased significantly (P<0.05) with a 26 ${\mu}m$ and 200 ${\mu}m$ filter pore size, respectively. Nutrients from dissolved organic substances were much higher than from particulates. Analysis of particle size fractionation and its effects on water quality is useful to estimate removal efficiencies of a commercial effluent screening device for solid management and development of solid removal systems.

Two successive in vitro experiments were carried out to examine the effect of MPS bacterial inoculation on growth, and nitrogen and phosphorus accumulation of maize plants under greenhouse condition in the same soil. There were four treatments, uninoculated control and three phosphate solubilizing bacterial inoculations, viz., Pseudomonas striata, Burkholderia cepacia and Serratia marcescens. The inoculated plants showed the higher plant height, total dry mass, nitrogen and phosphorus accumulation when compared to uninoculated control plants in both experiments. In the combined data analysis from two experiments, the plants inoculated with P. striata and B. cepacia showed significantly higher plant height, total dry mass and P accumulation when compared to S. marcescens inoculated plant and uninoculated control plants. The P. striata and B. cepacia inoculation enhanced total dry matter accumulation by 14% and phosphorus accumulation by 25% over the uninoculated control plants. The nitrogen and phosphorus concentration of maize plants were also increased due to MPS bacterial inoculation, however, the effect was not significant.
The present investigation deals to achieve an accurate determination of the phosphorous present in the wastewater samples using the membrane reactor. The study may enable to quantify the dissolved (DP) and adsorbed phosphorous (AP), also the adsorbed phosphorous categorically identified as inorganic coupled phosphorous (DRP) and organic coupled phosphorous (NRP). Moreover, the study has been conducted separately in anaerobic and aerobic chamber. The results obtained showed that dissolved phosphorous only can occur in anaerobic chamber with ca. 25%. The study conducted for adsorbed phosphorous showed that the DRP has the percent composition in anaerobic and aerobic chamber respectively 33% and 40% i.e., 7% more in aerobic chamber. The similar values obtained for NRP was found to be 42% and 60% i.e., 18% more in aerobic chamber. On the other hand while comparing the results for NRP and DRP, it has to be noted that NRP has 9% and 20% more percent composition than DRP respectively in anaerobic and aerobic chamber. Further, the adsorbed phase showed the species Al-P, Fe-P in the aerobic chamber with the quotient of 7.73 mg/g TS (total solid) whereas in the anaerobic chamber it showed the species Fe-P and $Fe(OH)_3$-P with the 7.16 mg/g TS.
