A comparison study of XRF and $^{31}P$-NMR method for the analysis of phosphorous in lubricating oil has been described. Pure oil and water were used for the observation of matrices effect variation by different analytical methods. Quantitative analysis was carried out by XRF and $^{31}P$-NMR using real samples. Significant difference is observed from the slopes on the calibration curves by the XRF due to the matrices (water: 124.0, oil: 276.6). While the result obtained from XRF showed a large matrix effect, the slopes obtained from $^{31}P$-NMR results of two different matrices, however, are in good agreement ranged of ${\pm}9%$ (water: 4.9, oil: 5.3).

The effects on lubricity and the anti-seizure property of lubricant according to base oils and extreme pressure additives of sulfur type and phosphorous type in cold rolling were evaluated by a laboratory scale rolling mill, where the contact conditions between work roll and strip are very close to actual cold rolling mill. The important results were obtained as follows : (1) synthetic oil has better effect on lubricity than tallow, (2) lubricant with extreme pressure additives of sulfur type of phosphorous type has better effect than base oil noly, (3) the more amount of extreme pressure additives is, the better effect on lubricity is, (4) sulfur type has better effect on lubricity than phosphorous type and (6) phosphorous type has better effect on anti-seizure property than sulfur type.
Effects of phosphorous fertilizer on the growth habit and yield of monoculm and branch types of two leading sesame varieties was investigated. The photosynthetic rate of at each growing stage was high at the flowering stage. The photosynthetic rate of monoculm sesame variety, Pungnyeon was high prior to flowering stage, while the Kwangsan variety, branch type was high after the flowering stage. The level of phosphate were most effective in increasing photosynthesis when standard level of fertilizer was applied in both varieties. Kwangsan variety showed higher photosynthetic rate per unit area, higher NAR, and CGR and higher LAR and RGR at the maximum flowering stage than the Pungnyoeon variety. Those characters attained maximum level when standard levels of phosphorous fertilizer were applied. The protein and oil content of seeds were higher in Kwangsan variety compared with Pungnyeon. However, the carbohydrate of seeds was high for Pungnyeon variety. The highest protein content was attained when standard level of fertilizer were applied. The oil content appeared to increase as the level of applied fertilizer increased. The results suggest that the vegetative growth and seed yields of sesame may be enough with present level of fertilizers. However, higher amount of phosphorous fertilizer may be required to increase the oil content of sesame seeds.

Engine oil is an oil used for lubrication of various internal combustion engines. The main function is to reduce wear on moving parts; it also cleans, inhibits corrosion, improves sealing, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts. In engines, there are parts which move against each other. Otherwise, the friction wastes the useful power by converting the kinetic energy to heat. Those parts were worn away, which could lead to lower efficiency and degradation of the engine. It increases fuel consumption, decreases power output, and can induce the engine failure. This study was conducted to evaluate the relation between engine oil property changes and engine performance for the diesel engine. This test was performed by using 12L, 6 cylinder, heavy duty engines. Low SAPS 10W30 engine oil (two type engine oils) was used. Test procedure and method was in accordance with the modified CEC L-57-T97 (OM441LA) method. In this study, TAN, TBN, KV and metal components, engine power, blowby gas, A_F were presented to evaluate the relation with engine oil property changes and engine performance. TAN, TBN, KV and metal We found that the components were generally increased but engine performance did not change. This results mean that property changes did not affect on engine performance because those were not enough to affect engine performance.
The effects of oxidation stability and flavor acceptability of soybean oil by roasting and refining treatment were investigated in this study. The peroxide values of crude oil from unroasted soybean(COUS) were more increased than those of crude oil from unroasted soybean(CORS) during storage under fluorescence light at $45^{\circ}C$. Induction time by the Rancimat Method was 44.9 and above 88.7 hours on COUS and CORS respectively. The order of oxidation stability of oil was crude>degummed>alkali-refining>deodorized>bleached oil in terms of peroxide value, while that of oxidation stability of oil was crude>degummed>deodorized>alkali-refining>bleached oil in regard to induction time by the Rancimat Method. The correlation coefficients between induction time and two charateristics(absorbance of browning reaction products and phosphorous contents) were highly significant, while that between induction time and tocopherol contents was not high during refining stages. The scores for the sensory evaluation of flavor on sesame oil and CORS was 9.269 and 8.269 respectively, but it was not significant between two oils.

Six reagents (water, citric acid, phosphoric acid, oxalic acid, acetic anhydride and maleic anhydride) were evaluated for their effectiveness is degumming rice bran oil. All chemical reagents tested were found to be significantly more effective than water in removing phosphatides from crude rice bran oil. Especially acetic anhydride and phosphoric acid were effective in reducing phosphorous levels (92.5% and 93.3% removeal, respectively). Nonhydratable phospholipids, lysophosphatidyl choline, were removed more effectively by the chemical reagents than by the water degumming. The major phospholipid(PL) components were phophatidyl choline. Oleic, linolieic and palmitic acids were the major fatty acids of PL in rice bran acetone insolubles(AI). The AI recovered by acetic anhydride degumming produced the most stable emulsions. However, the AI obtained from phophoric acid or oxalic acid treatments had very poor emulsifying properties.
For increasing the yield stress of ER fluids, the compressing ER electrode was developed and the compressing electrorheological (ER) behavior of anhydrous ER fluids in silicone oil of phosphorous ester cellulose powder was investigated. Under constant electric field, not only the current density but also the yield stress of anhydrous ER fluids were studied as varying the compressing length of ER electrode distance. From the experimental results the compressing of ER electrode had a large influence to the ER properties of anhydrous ER fluids. The current density was proportional to the compressing length of ER electrode under constant electric field and volume fraction also tile compressing yield stress was proportional to the volume fraction of dispersed particles under constant electric field and compressing length. When the ER electrode was compressed with 150mm after charging the electric field, 4 kV, tile yield stress of phosphoric ester cellulose ER fluids increased to thirteen times comparing with the yield stress measured at normal electrode.

A total of 20 agricultural organic materials including inorganic compounds, plant oils and plant extracts were used in the study for assessing the control efficacy on pepper diseases. Among inorganic compounds, only copper hydroxide showed inhibitory effect on both Phytophthora capsici causing Phytophthora blight and Colletotrichum acutatum causing anthracnose. Phosphorous acid inhibited the growth of P. capsici on PDA, and Sulfur/quicklime had it on that of C. acutatum. Plant essential oil, rosemary oil, and rapeseed oil among plant oils and plant extract of Japanese apricot/ginkgo nut inhibited the mycelial growth of the two pathogens. In the screening using pepper plant seedlings, the control efficacy on Phytophthora blight in 6-leaf stage of seedling was superior to that in 4-leaf stage of seedling. A protective effect on Phytophthora blight was displayed by copper hydroxide, sulfur/quicklime, water soluble calcium, phosphorous acid, plant essential oil, and cloves extract. When C. acutatum was inoculated by the non-wound method, copper hydroxide and rapeseed oil showed excellent protective activities with control values of 91.3% and 82.6%, respectively. However, copper hydroxide did not show any activity, when C. acutatum was inoculated after wounding pepper fruits. All organic materials never showed the curative effect on Phytophthora blight and anthracnose in pepper seedling assay and fruit assay.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to analyze specific foods influencing absolute nutrient intake and between-person variations of nutrient intake among Korean preschoolers. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This study included 2,766 participants aged 1-5 years in the 2009-2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. Dietary data were obtained from a 24-h dietary recall method. Major food sources of absolute nutrient intake were evaluated based on percent contribution of each food. To assess the contribution of specific foods to between-person variations in nutrient intake, stepwise multiple regressions were performed and cumulative $R^2$ was used. RESULTS: White rice and milk were main food sources of energy, protein, carbohydrate, phosphorus, iron, potassium, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin. The percentage of fat contributed by milk was 21.3% which was the highest, followed by pork, soybean oil, and egg. White rice accounted for 25% and 40% of total variability in total energy and carbohydrate intakes, respectively. About 39% of variation in calcium intake was explained by milk while 40% of variation in phosphorous intake was explained by cheese. The top 10 foods contributing to between-person variations in nutrient intakes were similar with food items that mainly contributed to absolute nutrient intakes. The number of foods explaining 90% of absolute amounts of nutrient intakes varied from 28 for vitamin A to 80 for iron. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified specific foods that contributed to absolute nutrient intakes and between-person variations in nutrient intakes among Korean preschoolers. Our findings can be used to develop dietary assessment tools and establish food-based dietary guidelines for young children.
