The broadband and discrete sources of sound in small cooling fans of propeller type and centrifugal type were investigated to understand the turbulent vortex structures from many bladed fans using ANSI test plenum for small air-moving devices (AMDs). The noise measurement method uses the plenum as a test apparatus to determine the acoustic source spectral density function at each operating conditions similar to real engineering applications based on acoustic similarity laws. The characteristics of fans including the head rise vs. volumetric flow rate performance were measured using a performance test facility. The sound power spectrum is decomposed into two non-dimensional functions: an acoustic source spectral distribution function F(St,.phi.) and an acoustic system response function G(He,.phi.) where St, He, and .phi. are the Strouhal number, the Helmholtz number, and the volumetric flow rate coefficient, respectively. The autospectra of radiated noise measurements for the fan operating at several volumetric flow rates,.phi., are analyzed using acoustical similarity. The rotating stall in the small propeller fan with a bell-mouth guided is mainly due to a leading edge separation. It creates a blockage in the passage and the reduction in the flow rate. The sound power levels with respect to the rotational speeds were measured to reveal the mechanisms of stall and/or surge for different loading conditions and geometries, for example, fans installed with a impinging plate. Lee and Meecham (1993) studied the effect of the large-scale motions like impinging normally on a flat plate using Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) and Lighthill's analogy.[ASME Winter Annual Meeting 1993, 93-WA/NCA-22]. The dipole and quadrupole sources in the fans tested are shown closely related to the vortex structures involved using cross-correlations of the hot-wire and microphone signals.

Test of Caterpillar Challenger 65 tractor which has rubber tracks, and articulated four wheel drive tractor with dual wheels and a mechanical front wheel drive tractor were conducted on an unplowed and plouwed wheat stubble field. The following parameters were analyzed : tractive efficiency (ηv), net tractive coefficient ($\phi$n), slip ($\sigma$) , drawbar pull(Fv), drawbar power (Pv) and forward velocity(v). The maximum net tractive coefficient was established at the tractive efficiency of 0.60 on the unplowed wheat stubble field : for the Challenger 65 tractor 0.855 ; 4WD 0.624 and MFWD 0.534 and on the plowed wheat stubble field with the tractive efficiency of 0.40 for the Challenger 65 tractor 0.82 : 4WD 0.57 and for tractor MFWD 0.48.
A series of copolymer membranes of 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) with selected hydrophobic monomers were prepared without crosslinking agents. The equilibrium water content, the partition coefficient, and the permeability of the solutes such as urea, methylurea, 1,3-di-methylurea, and acetamide via these membranes were measured. The partition coefficient data show that as the hydrophobicity of solutes increased, the partition of solutes were dictated by hydrophobic interaction between solute and polymer matrix. Diffusion coefficients obtained in these experiments decrease as the water content of polymer membrane decreases. This decrease is blunt as the excess heat capacities, ${\phi}C^0_p$ (excess) in aqueous solution at infinite dilution of solute increases. To investigate the relationship between water content and diffusion coefficient, the results of the diffusion experiments were examined in light of a free-volume model of diffusive transport. The remarkable increase of urea mobility in the polymer network containing relatively larger bulk water can be considered as water structure breaking effect.

This excerpt delineates a quantitative measure of relationship between a research title and its respective abstract extracted from different journal articles documented through a Korean Citation Index (KCI) database published through various journals. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based similarity metric that does not assume normality on dataset, realizes the imbalanced dataset problem, and zero-variance problem that affects most of the rule-based algorithms. The advantage of using this algorithm is that, it eliminates the limitations experienced by Pearson correlation coefficient (r) and additionally, it solves imbalanced dataset problem. A total of 107 journal articles collected from the database were used to develop a corpus with authors, year of publication, title, and an abstract per each. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm achieved high correlation coefficient values compared to others which are cosine similarity, euclidean, and pearson correlation coefficients by scoring a maximum correlation of 1, whereas others had obtained non-a-number value to some experiments. With these results, we found that an effective title must have high correlation coefficient with the respective abstract.

In this paper, the design method of a low-head propeller-type hydro turbine is studied for various numbers of blades on an axial propeller. We also investigate the relationship between geometrical parameters and internal performance parameters, such as angular velocities (100, 200, 300, 400 rpm) and 2.5~4m low heads through a three-dimensional numerical method with the SST turbulent model. The numerical results showed that the blade number had a more dominant influence than the change in heads and rotational speed on the flow characteristics of the turbine. The distributions of pressure and velocity in the streamwise direction of the propeller turbine were graphically depicted. Especially, the relationship among dimensionless parameters like specific speed ($N_s$), flow coefficient (${\phi}$) and power coefficient (P) were investigated.

In this study, the friction welding experiment was performed by using the design of experiment. And the signal data acquired by acoustic emission sensor were analyzed to predict the tensile strength of friction welding part at friction welding process for AZ31 magnesium alloy. A dimensionless coefficient($\phi_{AE}$), which consisted in the square of AE rms and variance, was defined as the characteristic of friction welding and the prediction equation was obtained by using linear regression. As the result of analysis, it was seen that the correlation between predicted and measured values became very close and on-line prediction of the ensile strength was possible in friction welding part.
A current-voltage relation for Positive Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (PTCR) ceramic was derived and compared with the experimental data. The new current-voltage relation was developed based on Heywangs double Schottky barrier model and a bias distribution across the grain boundary. The voltage limitation V < 4${\Phi}$$\sub$b/ suggested by Heywang is no longer necessary in the new expression for the voltage dependence of the resistance. The pulsed voltages were applied to the PTCR ceramic specimen in order to avoid possible temperature variation during the measurement.
An experimental study was performed to examine the heat transfer performance of individual rows of fin-tube heat exchangers. The heat transfer performance was measured using air-enthalpy type calorimeter. The examined heat exchangers consists of $7{\Phi}$ tube and fin patterns of them are slit and louver types. Equivalent fin spacing are 18 FPI for all samples, and the number of tube rows were 2. In order to confirm that thermal boundary condition on fins of each row are the same, physically separated between two rows as well as connected heat exchangers were used. The frontal air velocity varied from 0.7 to 2.5 m/s. Heat transfer performance for each row are measured. It was observed that the heat transfer coefficient of the 2nd row were smaller than that of the 1st row at low Reynolds number while larger at high Reynolds number.

A discharge measurement is difficult in flood season which is especially important in the water resources field and the continuous discharge measurement for all rivers is impossible on the present system. So, the stage-discharge curve has been used for a long time to produce discharge data of rivers. However, there has been problems from a reliability angle due to the fact that this method uses only stage-discharge relationship, although the stage-discharge curve has the convenience. Therefore, a new mean velocity equation was derived by using Chiu's 2D velocity formula of the entropy concept in this paper. The derived equation reflected hydraulic characteristics such as the depth, gravity acceleration, hydraulic radius, energy slope, kinematic coefficient of viscosity, etc. and estimated also a maximum velocity. In addition, this method verified the relationship between a mean and maximum velocity and estimates an equilibrium state ${\phi}(M)$ well presenting properties of a river cross section as the results. The mean velocity was estimated by using the equilibrium state ${\phi}(M)$, and then the discharge was estimated. To prove this equation to be accurate, the comparison between the measured and estimated discharge is conducted by using the measured laboratory data in the unsteady condition flow showing loop state and the results are consistent. If this study is constantly carried out by using various laboratory and river data, this method will be widely utilized in water resources field.
In order to make clear the resistance of plane nettings u,sed widely in constructing net cages, the resistance R taken by $R=kSU^2$, where S was the wall area of nettings, U the flow velocity, and k the resistance coefficient, was measured in a circulating water channel by using nylon Raschel nettings and PE trawler-knotted nettings coated with anti-fouling paint or not and then the properties of coefficient k were investigated. The mesh size L and the angle $\phi$ between two adjacent bars was given by the function of Reynolds number ${\lambda}U/v$ in the region of ${\lambda}U/v<180$, i. e., $$k=350(\frac{\lambda U}{v})^{-0.25}$$.where $\lambda$ was the representative size of nettings expressed as $$\lambda=\frac{{\pi}d^2}{2L\;sin\;2{\phi}}$$On the other hand, the coefficient k was almost fixed between 92 and 102 ($kg{\cdot}s^2/m^4$) in the region of ${\lambda}U/v{\geq}180$ and varied according to the ratio $S_n/S$ of the total area $S_n$ of nettings projected to the plane perpendicular to the water flow to the wall area S of nettings, i.e., it was given by $$k=98.6(\frac{S_n}{S})^{1.19}$$ regardless of the coating of paint.
