The Soft Material Obtained from an Europium (III)-Containing Ionic Liquid

  • The addition of organic ligand (${\beta}$-diketone or heterocyclic compound) to the europium (III)-containing ionic liquid resulted in bright luminescent soft materials with the molar ratio of europium/ionic liquid (IL)/ligand being 1:3:1 that exhibit bright red light under UV lamp. The luminescent properties such as emission features and lifetime of $^5D_0$ $Eu^{3+}$ excited level are dependent on the organic ligands. The materials were characterized by FT-IR and luminescence spectroscopy. The data shows that at least parts of the ILs (carboxylic acid) are replaced with ${\beta}$-diketone ligand rather than the formation of europium complex with the molar ratio of $Eu^{3+}$:IL: ligand being 1:3:1, while no ILs could be replaced by the heterocyclic ligand such as Bpy and Phen.

  • Organic EL has been expected to adopt to a new styles of technology that make flat display after Tang & Vanslyke made good electric luminescence device in late 1980s. Their studies based on multi layer structure that consists of emitting layer and carrier transporting layer using proper organic material. In this study, we made multi layer device using $Eu(TTA)_3(phen)$ as a luminescence material by PVD and investigate luminous properties of each device. But oxidization of organic layer by ITO, energy walls in both pole interface, contaminations of ITO surface, importance of protecting membrane, diffusive dimming of light to cathode organic layer, these causes of degradations are common facts of a macromolecule and micromolecule. We think these degradation caused by the impact of heat and electro-chemical factor, bulk effect and interface phenomenon, and raise a question.

Corynebacterium glutamicum에 의한 L-Phenylalanine 생산의 동역학적 특성 (Kinetics of L-Phenylalanine Production by Corynebacterium glutamicum)

  • 본 연구에서는 인공감미료 aspartamed의 원료인, I-phenylalanine을 생산하는 tyrosine auxotroph이며 다수의 아미노산 유도체의 저항성이 있는 변이주 Corynebact-erium glutamicum ATCC21674배양의 동특성을 조사하였다. 이 균주는 tyrosine이 존재하지 않아도 성장하고 또한 과량의 tyrosine을 함께 생성하는 것으로 보아 autotrophic mutant가 reversion된 revertant로 추정된다. 대수증식기에서의 비증식속도는 $0.087hr^-1$이었다. Phen-ylalanine 최대생성속도는 세포증식이 끝날 때에 얻어졌으며 세포량의 증가는 이산화탄소의 생산량의 증가와 비례함을 알 수 있었다. 이산화탄소 생성속도는 당소비속도와도 비례하므로 이를 이용하여 발효상태를 알 수 있는 유용성이 확인되었다.

Cholestasis beyond the Neonatal and Infancy Periods

  • Cholestasis results from impairment in the excretion of bile, which may be due to mechanical obstruction of bile flow or impairment of excretion of bile components into the bile canaliculus. When present, cholestasis warrants prompt diagnosis and treatment. The differential diagnosis of cholestasis beyond the neonatal period is broad and includes congenital and acquired etiologies. It is imperative that the clinician differentiates between intrahepatic and extrahepatic origin of cholestasis. Treatment may be supportive or curative and depends on the etiology. Recent literature shows that optimal nutritional and medical support also plays an integral role in the management of pediatric patients with chronic cholestasis. This review will provide a broad overview of the pathophysiology, diagnostic approach, and management of cholestasis beyond the neonatal and infancy periods.

Binding Mode of [Ruthenium(II)$(1,10-Phenanthroline)_2L]^{2+}\;to\;Poly(dG){\cdot}poly( dC){\cdot}poly(dC)^+$ Triplex DNA

  • Binding geometries of $[Ru(II)(110-phenanthroline)_2L]^2+$, complexes (where L = dipyrido [3,2-a:2',3'-c]phena-zine (DPPZ) or benzodipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c] phenazine (BDPPZ)) to poly(dG)${\cdot}$poly(dC)${\cdot}$poly(dC) + triplex DNA (CGC + triplex) has been investigated by linear dichroism and normal absorption spectroscopy. Analysis of the linear dichroism for the CGC+ triplex and $[Ru(II)(phen)_2BDPPZ]^2+$ complex indicates that the extended ligand of the metal complex lie perpendicular to the polynucleotide helix axis. Together with strong hypochromism and red shift in the interligand absorption region, we concluded that the extended BDPPZ or DPPZ ligand in-tercalated between the bases of polynucleotide. The spectral properties of the metal complexes bound to CGC+ triplex are similar to those bound to $poly(dA)[poly(dT)]^2$ triplex (Choi et al., Biochemistry 1997, 36, 214), sug-gesting that the metal complex is located in the minor groove of the CGC+ triplex.

Genomic selection through single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction improves the accuracy of evaluation in Hanwoo cattle

  • Objective: Genomic selection (GS) is becoming popular in animals' genetic development. We, therefore, investigated the single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP) as tool for GS, and compared its efficacy with the traditional pedigree BLUP (pedBLUP) method. Methods: A total of 9,952 males born between 1997 and 2018 under Hanwoo proven-bull selection program was studied. We analyzed body weight at 12 months and carcass weight (kg), backfat thickness, eye muscle area, and marbling score traits. About 7,387 bulls were genotyped using Illumina 50K BeadChip Arrays. Multiple-trait animal model analyses were performed using BLUPF90 software programs. Breeding value accuracy was calculated using two methods: i) Pearson's correlation of genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) with EBV of all animals (rM1) and ii) correlation using inverse of coefficient matrix from the mixed-model equations (rM2). Then, we compared these accuracies by overall population, info-type (PHEN, phenotyped-only; GEN, genotyped-only; and PH+GEN, phenotyped and genotyped), and bull-types (YBULL, young male calves; CBULL, young candidate bulls; and PBULL, proven bulls). Results: The rM1 estimates in the study were between 0.90 and 0.96 among five traits. The rM1 estimates varied slightly by population and info-type, but noticeably by bull-type for traits. Generally average rM2 estimates were much smaller than rM1 (pedBLUP, 0.40 to0.44; ssGBLUP, 0.41 to 0.45) at population level. However, rM2 from both BLUP models varied noticeably across info-types and bull-types. The ssGBLUP estimates of rM2 in PHEN, GEN, and PH+ GEN ranged between 0.51 and 0.63, 0.66 and 0.70, and 0.68 and 0.73, respectively. In YBULL, CBULL, and PBULL, the rM2 estimates ranged between 0.54 and 0.57, 0.55 and 0.62, and 0.70 and 0.74, respectively. The pedBLUP based rM2 estimates were also relatively lower than ssGBLUP estimates. At the population level, we found an increase in accuracy by 2.0% to 4.5% among traits. Traits in PHEN were least influenced by ssGBLUP (0% to 2.0%), whereas the highest positive changes were in GEN (8.1% to 10.7%). PH+GEN also showed 6.5% to 8.5% increase in accuracy by ssGBLUP. However, the highest improvements were found in bull-types (YBULL, 21% to 35.7%; CBULL, 3.3% to 9.3%; PBULL, 2.8% to 6.1%). Conclusion: A noticeable improvement by ssGBLUP was observed in this study. Findings of differential responses to ssGBLUP by various bulls could assist in better selection decision making as well. We, therefore, suggest that ssGBLUP could be used for GS in Hanwoo proven-bull evaluation program.

차량용 폐윤활유에 함유된 다환 방향족 탄화수소 (PAHs)의 분석 (Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in used lubricating car oils)

  • 본 연구에서는 동시 형광분광법과 GC/FID법을 이용하여 폐윤활유 시료 중의 PAHs를 acetonitrile 용매로 추출하여 정량분석 하였다. 동시 형광분광법을 이용하여 7종의 PAHs, 즉 acenaphthene (Ace), anthracene (Anth), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), chrysene (Chry), phenanthrene (Phen), fluoranthrene (Fl) 및 perlyrene (Per)을 분석하였다. 이들 성분의 검정선은 모두 0.4~166 ppb(상관계수; 0.9985~0.9999)의 범위에서 직선을 보였다. 다른 8종의 PAHs를 GC법으로 분석하기 위한 검량선은 10.0 ppm 표준용액을 사용하였고, split ratio를 10에서부터 100까지 변화시킬 때에 발생되는 peak 면적을 이용하여 작성하였다. 검출감도는 동시 형광분광법이 GC법보다 적어도 100배 이상 우수하였다. 폐윤활유 시료 중의 총 PAHs 함량은 LNG(버스)와 LPG(택시)의 폐윤활유에서 각각 5.5 ng/g과 10.5 ng/g의 수준으로 검출되었으며, 가솔린을 사용하는 일반승용차, 경유를 사용하는 승합차 및 트레일러의 폐윤활에서 각각 92.2 ng/g, 92.6 ng/g 및 130.3 ng/g 등이 측정되어 경유를 사용하는 대형트레일러에서 가장 많은 양이 발생됨을 알 수 있었다.

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Theoretical Calculation of a Novel Nickel(II) Complex with Dibromotyrosine and 1,10-Phenanthroline

  • A new complex [$Ni(phen)(C_9H_8Br_2NO_3)_2{\cdot}2CH_3OH{\cdot}2H_2O$] [phen: 1,10-phenanthroline $C_9H_8Br_2NO_3$: 3,5-dibromo-L-tyrosine] was synthesized and characterized by IR, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray crystallography shows that Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated. The Ni(II) ion coordinates with four nitrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms from three ligands, forming a mononuclear Ni(II) complex. The crystal crystallizes in the Orthorhombic system, space group $P2_12_12$ with a = 12.9546 ${\AA}$, b = 14.9822 ${\AA}$, c = 9.9705 ${\AA}$, V = 1935.2 ${\AA}$, Z = 1, F(000) = 1008, S = 0.969, ${\rho}_{calcd}=1.742g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$, ${\mu}=4.688mm^{-1}$, $R_1$ = 0.0529 and $wR_2$ = 0.0738 for 3424 observed reflections (I > $2{\sigma}(I)$). Theoretical study of the title complex was carried out by density functional theory (DFT) method and the B3LYP method employing the $6-3l+G^*$ basis set. The energy gap between HOMO and LUMO indicates that this complex is prone to interact with DNA. CCDC: 908041.

소나무잎을 Passive Air Sampler로 이용하여 지역별 대기 중 다환방향족 탄화수소의 농도 및 발생원 추정 (Estimation of Atmospheric PAH Concentrations and Sources at Several Sites Using Pine Needles as a Passive Air Sampler)

  • Objectives: This study was carried out in order to estimate atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) concentrations and sources using pine needles as a passive air sampler (PAS) in urban (Pyeongtaek), semirural (Anseong) and rural (Jincheon) sites. Methods: One-year-old pine needles were collected for analysis of their PAH concentrations ($C_{p,n}g/g$ dry) at the end of December. PAHs concentrations in the ambient air ($C_a$, $ng/m^3$) were calculated with a $Log(C_p/C_a)-LogK_{oa}$ correlational equation. Results: PAHs concentrations in ambient air ($C_a$) were high, in the order of urban ($114.03ng/m^3$), semirural ($105.17ng/m^3$) and rural ($61.91ng/m^3$) sites. However, distributions of PAH isomer concentrations were very similar. PAHs of which molecular weight is smaller than 228.30 (AcPy, Acp, Flu, Phen, Ant, Flt, Pyr, BaA, Chry) made up most of the PAHs in the ambient air (96.6-98.5%). Conclusion: At urban, semirural and rural sites, it was concluded that the main source of PAHs in the ambient air ratio of each PAH isomer concentration was cars, especially diesel vehicles.
