  • With the growing usage of the networks, the world-wide Internet has become the main means to exchange data and carry out transactions. It has also become the main means to attack hosts. To solve the security problems which occur in the network such as Internet, we import software products of network security elements like an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and a firewall. In this paper, we have designed and constructed the General Simulation Environment of Network Security model composed of multiple IDSes and a firewall which coordinate by CNP (Contract Net Protocol) for the effective detection of the intrusion. The CNP, the methodology for efficient integration of computer systems on heterogeneous environment such as distributed systems, is essentially a collection of agents, which cooperate to resolve a problem. Command console in the CNP is a manager who controls tie execution of agents or a contractee, who performs intrusion detection. In the Network Security model, each model of simulation environment is hierarchically designed by DEVS (Discrete EVent system Specification) formalism. The purpose of this simulation is to evaluate the characteristics and performance of CNP architecture with rete pattern matching algorithm and the application of rete pattern matching algorithm for the speeding up the inference cycle phases of the intrusion detection expert system.

  • A very simple control approach using neural network for the robust position control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) is presented. The linear quadratic controller plus feedforward neural network is employed to obtain the robust PMSM system approximately linearized using field-orientation method for an AC servo. The neural network is trained in on-line phases and this neural network is composed by a feedforward recall and error back-propagation training. Since the total number of nodes are only eight, this system can be easily realized by the general microprocessor. During the normal operation, the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. In addition, the robustness is also obtained without affecting overall system response. This method is realized by a floating-point Digital Signal Processor DS1102 Board (TMS320C31).

  • Accurate construction cost estimation in the initial stage of building project plays a key role for project success and for mitigation of disputes. Total construction cost(TCC) estimation of apartment projects in Vietnam has become more important because those projects increasingly rise in quantity with the urbanization and population growth. This paper presents the application of artificial neural networks(ANNs) in estimating TCC of apartment projects. Ninety-one questionnaires were collected to identify input variables. Fourteen data sets of completed apartment projects were obtained and processed for training and generalizing the neural network(NN). MATLAB software was used to train the NN. A program was constructed using Visual C++ in order to apply the neural network to realistic projects. The results suggest that this model is reasonable in predicting TCCs for apartment projects and reinforce the reliability of using neural networks to cost models. Although the proposed model is not validated in a rigorous way, the ANN-based model may be useful for both practitioners and researchers. It facilitates systematic predictions in early phases of construction projects. Practitioners are more proactive in estimating construction costs and making consistent decisions in initial phases of apartment projects. Researchers should benefit from exploring insights into its implementation in the real world. The findings are useful not only to researchers and practitioners in the Vietnam Construction Industry(VCI) but also to participants in other developing countries in South East Asia. Since Korea has emerged as the first largest foreign investor in Vietnam, the results of this study may be also useful to participants in Korea.

  • Wireless community networks (WCNs) are considered another form of ownership of internet protocol (IP) networks, where community members manage and own every piece of equipment in a decentralized way, and routing for traffic is done in a cooperative manner. However, the current routing protocols for WCNs suffer from stability and scalability issues. In this paper, an enhanced routing protocol is proposed based on the optimized link state routing (OLSR) protocol to meet the standards of efficiency in terms of stability and scalability. The proposed routing protocol is enhanced through two phases: multicasting expansion and multipoint relay (MPR) selection based on an analytical hierarchical process (AHP). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed routing protocol outperforms the OLSR protocol in terms of network control overhead and packet delivery ratio by 18% and 1% respectively.

  • In this paper a scalable QoS routing scheme for distributed multimedia applications in a hierarchical wide area network is proposed. The problem of QoS routing is formulated as a multicriteria shortest path problem, known as NP-complete. The proposed hierarchical routing scheme consists of two phases. In Phase 1, every border node periodically pre-computes the QoS distance for the paths between every pair of border nodes in any level of domain hierarchy. This phase is independet of the QoS request from an application. In Phase II, distributed graph construction algorithm is performed to model the network as a graph by retrieving pre-computed QoS distances. The graph is constructed by the on-demand algorithm and contains a part of the network topology which is completely neglected or partially considered by existing routing schemes, thus maintaining more accurate topology information. By using retrieval approach rather than advertising one, no global QoS state information exchange among nodes is needed. In this Phase, distributed partition algorithm for QoS routing problem is also performed, thus eliminating virtual links on the hierarchically complete path.

  • An approximation algorithm is presented for cyclic queueing networks with finite buffers. The algorithm decomposes the queueing network into individual queues with revised arrival and service process and revised queue capacity. Then, each queue is analyzed in isolation. The service process reflects the additional delay a unit might undergo due to blocking and the arrival process is described by a 2-phases Coxian ($C_2$) distribution. The individual queues are modelled as $C_2/C_2$/1/B queues. The parameters of the individual queues are computed approximately using an iterative scheme. The population constraint of the closed network is taken into account by ensuring that the sum of the average queue lengths of the individual queues is equal to the number of customers of the network. Extensive numerical experiments show that this method provides a fairly good estimation of the throughput.

  • A ubiquitous network allows all users to access and exchange information of any kind freely at any time, from anywhere, and from any appliance through the use of broadband and mobile access. Bluetooth commincation can provide the missing wireless extension to the heterogeneous network, allowing a more ubiquitous access. In this point of view, the BT specifications define ways for which each BT device can set up multiple connections with neighboring devices to communicate in a multi-hop fashion. this paper provides insights on the Bluetooth technology and on some limitations of the scatternet formations. so that, we describe a new multi-hop routing protocol for the establishment of scatternets. this protocol defines rules for forming a multi-hop topology in two phases. the first phase, topology discovery, concerns the discovery of the node's depth from a root node initiating inquiry process. the second phase forms scatternet topology based on the result of topology discovery.

  • A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is composed of several sensor nodes which are severely restricted to energy and memory. Energy is the lifeblood of sensors and thus energy conservation is a critical necessity of WSN. This paper proposes a clustering algorithm namely Energy Efficient Trustworthy Clustering algorithm (EETCA), which focuses on three phases such as chief node election, chief node recycling process and bi-level trust computation. The chief node election is achieved by Dempster-Shafer theory based on trust. In the second phase, the selected chief node is recycled with respect to the current available energy. The final phase is concerned with the computation of bi-level trust, which is triggered for every time interval. This is to check the trustworthiness of the participating nodes. The nodes below the fixed trust threshold are blocked, so as to ensure trustworthiness. The system consumes lesser energy, as all the nodes behave normally and unwanted energy consumption is completely weeded out. The experimental results of EETCA are satisfactory in terms of reduced energy consumption and prolonged lifetime of the network.

  • Energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a critical issue because batteries are used for operation and communication. In terms of scalability, energy efficiency, data integration, and resilience, WSN-cluster-based routing algorithms often outperform routing algorithms without clustering. Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is a cluster-based routing protocol with a high transmission efficiency to the base station. In this paper, we propose an energy consumption model for LEACH and compare it with the existing LEACH, advanced LEACH (ALEACH), and power-efficient gathering in sensor information systems (PEGASIS) algorithms in terms of network lifetime. The energy consumption model comprises energy-sensitive cluster formation and a cluster head selection technique. The setup and steady-state phases of the proposed model are discussed based on the cluster head selection. The simulation results demonstrated that a low-energy-consumption network was introduced, modeled, and validated for LEACH.
