  • We applied a new analyzing technique for the polyurethane acrylate hybrid emulsion sample composed of polyurethane resin and acrylate resin using the phase-lag mapping techniques of atomic force microscopy. For the analysis, we synthesized similarly sized pure polyurethane dispersion and acrylate emulsion particles, which were used for measuring the standard phase-lag intensities for each material. Based on these signal intensity, we could discriminate acryl particle in the polyurethane dispersion matrix with the resolution of a few tens of nanometers. Thus, the techniques show a new possibility in the analysis of the organic two-phase particles, and we believe the techniques are helpful to design organic particles.

  • The single-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) generates the positive torque in the restricted section. So, it can not started by itself and the torque ripple is heavier than poly-phase. For self-starting and fixing rotating direction, the rotor should be placed at the rising inductance slope when stationary. The parking permanent magnet locates the rotor in the fixed position, which can be started by it-self. It is very simple and cost effective but has some drawbacks. It affects the rotor during the operation, so the characteristics of motor, such as a torque, speed, and ripple are changed to go bad. This paper presents the detent torque of parking magnet starting device through the finite element analysis and experiments. The finite element analysis is performed at incremental rotor positions over one detent torque cycle for any one pole. The prototype, fabricated in the previous research, is used for the experiments. The inductance, instant torque, and detent torque are calculated using the terminal voltage and phase current. Finally, the finite element analysis result and the experiment result are compared for analysis and validity.

  • The method of photoelasticity allows one to obtain principal stress differences and principal stress directions in a photoelastic model. In the classical approach, the photoelastic parameters are measured manually point by point. This is time consuming and requires skill in the identification and measurement of photoelastic data. Fringe phase shifting method has been recently developed and widely used to measure and analyze fringe data in photo-mechanics. This paper presents the test results of photoelastic fringe phase shifting method for the stress analysis of a curved beam plate. The technique used here requires four phase stepped photoelastic images obtained from a circular polariscope by rotating the analyzer at 0˚, 45˚, 90˚ and 135˚. Experimental results are compared with those of ANSYS and calculated by the simple beam theory. Good agreement among the results can be observed.

  • Isolated phase bus(IPS) has a special structure for carrying large current generated by a generator to a main transformer. In the analysis of IPB, the understanding of the magnetic field distribution generated by large current is important. Especially, while the bus conductor current is flowing, almost same amount of current as bus conductor current is induced in the enclosures under the influence of time varying magnetic field, and therefore the large electric loss and the deterioration of insulating capability might occur due to Joule heating effect. Hence for the optimal design of IPB satisfying the condition to minimize the loss, the accurate analysis of magnetic field distribution and the eddy current characteristics of three phase isolated phase bus have been investigated. In the analysis of time varying magnetic field, instead of finite difference method(FDM) which is generally used, finite element method with phasor concept is investigated under the assumption that the bus current is purely sinusoidal. The characteristics is studied along the phase angle by comparing the effect of eddy current on the magnetic field distribution with the case that eddy current is not considered, and also the effect of material, thickness and radius of enclosure on the eddy current distribution is discussed.

  • Single-phase cycloconverters are widely used for ac-ac power conversion especially for speed control of ac drives. In this paper, a new single-phase to single-phase Z-source cycloconverter topology is proposed. The proposed single-phase Z-source cycloconverter can boost to a desired voltage with various frequency. Thus, it is called a frequency step-down and amplitude voltage step-up converter. The operating principle of the proposed topology is presented. Analysis and simulation for this single-phase Z-source cycloconverter are also presented.

  • The vibration mode shape changed by the phase angle that can be controlled by phase-shifting ESPI system is discussed. For the phase-shifting ESPI experiment the stroboscopic illumination by using AOM(Acousto-Optic Modulator) is needed, and the initial phase angle can be adjusted by the program. The vibration mode shape is changed when the initial phase angle is changed. We examined the vibration mode shape change due to the initial phase angle change at each resonance frequency. Through this study, we found that in the vibration testing using phase-shilling ESPI the vibration mode shape is improved in the quality by adjusting exact phase angle and the error of the quantitative vibration analysis can be reduced.

  • This study conducted time-series analysis on domestic studies related to entrepreneurship for more than last 50 years by integrating the co-word analysis method of intellectual structure analysis into the study of entrepreneurship. The co-word analysis method is a quantitative analysis method to analyze the overall trend of the study and further study topics by visualizing the information between study topics and arranging the topics on two-dimensional plane and the study result showed largely four phases and the direction of the study path. According to the analysis, the study is started at embryonic study phase(third quadrant), the study topic of independent study phase(second quadrant) is a phase to be a settled independent area as a study and the topics of the study include topics of the study reflecting the situation of the times. At growing study phase(first quadrant) study topics which are closely related to the study topic are arranged, and the topics, the center of the study, are positioned at the study topics of maturity phase(4th quadrant).

  • For efficient quantization of speech representation, it is common to incorporate Perceptual characteristics of human hearing. However, the focus has been confined only to the magnitude information of speech, and little attention has been paid to phase information. This paper presents a novel approach, termed perceptually irrelevant phase elimination (PIPE), to find out irrelevant phase information of acoustic signals in terms of perception. The proposed method, which is based on the observation that the relative phase relationship within a critical band is perceptually important, is derived not only for stationary Fourier signal but also for harmonic signal. The proposed method is incorporated into the analysis/synthesis system based on harmonic representation of speech, and subjective test results demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method.

  • The paper compares topography, phase contrast and force spectroscopy in atomic force microscopy data for evaluating the microheterogeneity of surface layer. The worn surface of ion-plated TiN coating was measured using both a laboratory-built and a commercial AFM. The results of analysis revealed structural and micromechanical heterogeneity of the worn surfaces. We demonstrated that the phase image allows relatively qualitative estimation of elastic modulus of the sample surface. The tribolayer formed in the worn surface possessed much lower stiffness than the original coating. It is shown that the most stable phase imaging is provided with a stiff cantilever. In this case, phase contrast is well conditioned, first of all, by microheterogeneity of elastic properties of the investigated surfaces. In this study an attempt was also made to correlate the results of phase imaging with that of the farce spectroscopy. The joint analysis of information on the surface properties obtained by the phase imaging and quantitative data measured with the force spectroscopy methods allows a better understanding of the nature of the surface micromechanical heterogeneity.

  • We derive analytic expressions for the spontaneous emission spectrum (SES) of a multisection distributed feedback (DFB) structure device employing complex coupled gratings including the effects of both facets reflections. The multisection DFB structure device used in the analysis is a general model which allows the independent phase of a grating in each section, and the sections without gratings. The expressions are the same as those derived by makino and glinski in case the gratings are index coupled and the phase of a grating in each section, ${\varphi}_k$ is '0' which means the phase of gratings in the device is ocntinuous. The expressions for the SES of a phase-shift-controlled (PSC) DFB structure device using tunable devices are derived from the general expressions. The number of parametes of the expressions is reduced by using the parameter of effective phase shift defined by the sum of the phase shift in a PSC region and the difference of the phase of a grating in each active region. Equations showing the effect of both facets reflections and the effective phase shift on the SES are derived. The validaty of the equations is verified by computer simultions. Computer simulation results also show the possibility of evaluating the structure parametes of the device from its SES.
