  • This study deals with robustness bounds estimation for uncertain linear systems with structured perturbations where the eigenvalues of the perturbed systems are guaranteed to stay in a prescribed region. Based upon the Lyapunov approach, new theorems to estimate allowable perturbation parameter bounds are derived. The theorems are referred to as the zero-order or first-order asymmetric robustness measure depending on the order of the P matrix in the sense of Taylor series expansion of perturbed Lyapunov equation. It is proven that Gao's theorem for the estimation of stability robustness bounds is a special case of proposed zero-order asymmetric robustness measure for eigenvalue assignment. Robustness bounds of perturbed parameters measured by the proposed techniques are asymmetric around the origin and less conservative than those of conventional methods. Numerical examples are given to illustrate proposed methods.

  • In this paper, we study the initial value problem for neutral functional differential equations involving Caputo fractional derivative of order ${\alpha}{\in}(0,1)$ with infinite delay. Some sufficient conditions for the uniqueness and continuous dependence of solutions are established by virtue of fractional calculus and Banach fixed point theorem. Some results obtained showed that the solution was closely related to the conditions of delays and minor changes in the problem. An example is provided to illustrate the main results.

  • The variational approach for the direct evaluation of the energy difference ${\Delta}$E is studied. The method is based on the differential equation corresponding to the integral Hellmann-Feynman formula. The ${\Delta}$E is given by the expectation value of the Hermitian operator which does not involve the 1/$r_{ij}$ term. Because of its variational nature of the method, the coupling problem of the differential equations which are encountered in perturbation treatment does not occur. The method is applied to the evaluation of the electric polarizabilities of the Helium isoelectronic series atoms. The result is in good agreement with the experiment. The method is compared with the recent works of Karplus et al.

  • The new concept of the Bonding and Antibonding Regions in the transition density space is developed from the Integral Hellmann-Feynman Theorem and the positive definiteness of the transition density. The unility of this concept is fully demonstrated for H2 system. It is expected that the nature of the electronic perturbation energy due to the change of nuclear configuration can be successfully understood by using this concept. Properties of the transition density is briefly discussed.

  • The robust control technique is generally the iterative design method to determine a robust control for perturbed system with prescribed range of perturbation based on the robust stability measure. However, robot manipulator has the structured pertubation and the unstructured one. This paper proposes the robust technique for designing controller such that the trajectory of end-effector of robot manipulator tracks asymptotically the desired trajectory for all allowable variations in the manipulator's parameter. For satisfying asymptotical stability though we can not know the bound of perturbations and the parameter variations, the relation between the unknown parameter and the parameter of nominal system can be derived from Krasovskii theorem and we construct the new robust control using that relation. • In this paper, the authors investigate the structure of operators similar to normaloid and transloid operators. In particular, we characterize the interior of the set of operators similar to normaloid (transloid, respectively) operators. This gives a concise spectral condition to determine when an operator is similar to a normaloid or transloid operator. Also it is proved that any Hilbert space operator has a compact perturbation with transloid property. This is used to give a negative answer to a problem posed by W. Y. Lee, concerning Weyl's theorem.

  • We have obtained the solution of van der Pol's equation characterized by an arctangent nonlinearity, using the perturbation method by writing periodicity conditions: $$X^{(n)}(2{\pi})-X^{(n)}(0)=0$$ $$X^{(n)'}(2{\pi})-X^{(n)'}(0)=0 (n=0,1,2......)$$ together with the starting condition: $$X^{(n)}(\frac{\pi}{2})=0,\;X^{(n)}'(\frac{\pi}{2})=-R^{(n)}$$. Our results agree with Liapunov's theorem and our calculated value is more similar to Murata's measured value than Murata's calculated value.

  • Under the heavy irradiation, when the production and the recombination of interstitials and vacancies are included, the diffusion equations become nonlinear. An effort has been made to arrange an appropriated transformation of these nonlinear differential equations to soluble Poisson's equations, so that analytical solutions for simultaneously calculating the concentrations of interstitials and vacancies in the angular dependent Cottrell's potential of the edge dislocation have been derived from the well-known Green's theorem and perturbation theory.

  • A robust nonlinear $H_2$/$H_{\infty}$ control method for a parallel inverted pendulum with structured perturbation and dry friction is proposed. By the random input describing function techniques, the nonlinear dry friction is approximated into the quasi-linear system. Introducing the quadratic robustness theorem, the robust $H_2$/$H_{\infty}$ control system is constructed for the quasi-linear perturbed system. But it is difficult to design a controller due to the nonlinear correction term in Riccati equation. With some transformations on the Riccati equation containing nonlinear correction term, the design of the robust nonlinear controller can be done easily. Hence when the stiffness and mass of the parallel inverted pendulum vary in certain ranges, the proposed control scheme has the robustness for both the structured perturbation and dry friction. The results of computer simulation show the effectiveness of our proposed control method.
