  • Chaotic dynamics is an active area of research in biology, physics, sociology, psychology, physiology, and engineering. This interest in chaos is also expanding to the social scientific fields such as politics, economics, and argument of prediction of societal events. In this paper, we propose a dynamic model for addiction of tobacco. A proposed dynamical model originates from the dynamics of tobacco use, recovery, and relapse. In order to make an addiction model of tobacco, we try to modify and rescale the existing tobacco and Lorenz models. Using these models, we can derive a new tobacco addiction model. Finally, we obtain periodic motion, quasi-periodic motion, quasi-chaotic motion, and chaotic motion from the addiction model of tobacco that we established. We say that periodic motion and quasi-periodic motion are related to the pre-addiction or recovery stage, respectively. Quasi-chaotic and chaotic motion are related to the addiction stage and relapse stage, respectively.

  • The Delayed Feedback Control method (DFC) proposed by Pyragas applies an input based on the difference between the current state of the system, which is generating chaos orbits, and the $\tau$-time delayed state, and stabilizes the chaos orbit into a target. In DFC, the information about a position in the state space is unnecessary if the period of the unstable periodic orbit to stabilize is known. There exists the fault that DFC cannot stabilize the unstable periodic orbit when a linearlized system around the periodic point has an odd number property. There is the chaos control method using the prediction of the $\tau$-time future state (PDFC) proposed by Ushio et al. as the method to compensate this fault. Then, we propose a method such as improving the fault of the DFC. Namely, we combine DFC and PDFC with parameter W, which indicates the balance of both methods, not to lose each advantage. Therefore, we stabilize the state into the $\tau$ periodic orbit, and ask for the ranges of Wand gain K using Jury' method, and determine the quasi-optimum pair of (W, K) using a genetic algorithm. Finally, we apply the proposed method to a discrete-time chaotic system, and show the efficiency through some examples of numerical experiments.

  • In the case of a one-shot logistic equipment system that has been stored for a long time, reliability changes with the passage of time. Therefore, when the time comes to use, the storage reliability of the product is an important quality characteristic, and the existing studies have focused on the research for calculating the optimal period inspection cycle to improve the storage reliability. In this study, we analyzed the influence of the two factors on the storage reliability at the convergence point by analyzing the design reliability as well as the periodic inspection cycle. To do this, we applied the existing Martinez storage reliability model to the missile, a representative product of a one-shot system, and analyzed the quantitative effects of the design reliability and the periodic inspection cycle. From the results of the analysis, it was confirmed that the maintenance of the periodic inspection cycle is more important for the improvement of the storage reliability than the design reliability in the design reliability category of the current product.

  • The governing equation for a dome-type shallow spatial truss subjected to a transverse load is expressed in the form of the Duffing equation, and it can be derived by considering geometrical non-linearity. When this model under constant load exceeds the critical level, unstable behavior is appeared. This phenomenon changes sensitively as the number of free-nodes increases or depends on the imperfection of the system. When the load is a periodic function, more complex behavior and low critical levels can be expected. Thus, the dynamic unstable behavior and the change in the critical point of the 3-free-nodes space truss system were analyzed in this work. The 4-th order Runge-Kutta method was used in the system analysis, while the change in the frequency domain was analyzed through FFT. The sinusoidal wave and the beating wave were utilized as the periodic load function. This unstable situation was observed by the case when all nodes had same load vector as well as by the case that the load vector had slight difference. The results showed the critical buckling level of the periodic load was lower than that of the constant load. The value is greatly influenced by the period of the load, while a lower critical point was observed when it was closer to the natural frequency in the case of a linear system. The beating wave, which is attributed to the interference of the two frequencies, exhibits slightly more behavior than the sinusoidal wave. And the changing of critical level could be observed even with slight changes in the load vector.

  • We consider an elastic isotropic plate reinforced by stringers and weakened by a periodic system of rectilinear slots of variable width. The variable width of the slots is comparable with elastic deformations. We study the case when the slots faces get in contact at some area. Determination of parameters characterizing the partial closure of variable width slots is reduced to the solution of a singular integral equation. The action of the stringers is replaced with unknown equivalent concentrated forces at the points of their connection with the plate. The contact stresses and contact zone sizes are found from the solution of the singular integral equation.

  • In this paper, an INS compensation algorithm for auto sailing system is proposed, where low cost IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) is used for measuring the accelerometer data. First, we denote the basic INS algorithm with IMU and show that how to compensate the error of position by using low cost IMU. Second, in considering the ship's characteristic and ocean environments, we consider with a factor as a periodic external disturbance which effects to the exact position. To develop the compensation algorithm, we use a repetitive method to reduce the external environment changes. Lastly, we verify the proposed algorithm by using experiments results.

  • A policy of periodic replacement with minimal repair at failure is considered for a complex system. Under such a policy the system is replaced at periodic times. iT(i=1,2, $\ldots$), while minimal repair is performed at any intervening system failures. The cost of the j-th minimal repair to the component which fails at age t is g(C(t). $c_j$ (t)), where C(t) is the age-dependent random part, $c_j$(t) is the deterministic part which depends on the age and the number of the minimal repair to the component, and g is a positive nondecreasing continuous function. The cost of replacement is expensive when the number of failures occurring in (0. T) is greater than a threshold level. The problem of determining the optimal replacement period, $T^{\ast}$, which minimizes the total expected cost per unit time over an infinite time horizon is considered. Various special cases are considered.

  • An inventory control system was developed for a distribution system consisting of a single multiproduct warehouse serving a set of customers and purchasing products from multiple vendors. Purchase orders requesting multiple products are delivered to the warehouse in a process. The receipt of customer orders by the warehouse proceeded in order intervals and in order quantities that are subject to random fluctuations. The objective of warehouse operation is to minimize the total cost while maintaining inventory levels within the warehouse capacity by adjusting the purchase order intervals and quantities. An adaptive model predictive control algorithm was developed using a periodic square wave model to represent the material flows. The adaptive concept incorporated a stabilized minimum variance control-type input calculation coupled with input/output stream parameter predictions. The effectiveness of the scheme was demonstrated using simulations.

  • Electrodeionization is a hybrid separation process of electrodialysis and ion exchange to produce high purity water under electric field. This article provides a fabrication result of hole patterned metal electrode for elecrodeionization system. The hole patterns have been fabricated by nanosphere lithography (NSL). The technique utilizes the self-assembled nanospheres as lens-mask patterns and collimated laser beam source. The hole patterns have a periodic array structure. The images of hole pattern on metal electrode prepared were observed by SEM. We believe that the periodic hole patterned metal electrode structure is a useful device applicable for metal mat electrode in electrodeionization system.
