This study intended to understand movements of turbid water in selective with drawal reservoirs before and after summer monsoon. Mean rainfall during November-May was low, compared to that during June-October. The reservoir water was discharged through watergates when previous rainfall and inflow exceeded 50 mm and $80\;m^3s^{-1}$, respectively. Intake towers were generally used except for the period of the high runoff. Average turbidity in gown-reservoir showed a difference of 29.9 NTU between premonsoon and postmonsoon. Diameter of particles of turbid water ranged between 0.435 and $482.9\;{\mu}m$. Fine particles such as clay were much denser than the larger particle. In the whole stations, clay component was relatively higher with a proportion of that in the particle distribution. Particle composition of turbid water showed that clay consisted of 94.4-98.9% and silt made of 1.1-5.6%. Analysis on turbid water movements derived from particle distribution showed a linear increase from the deep layer toward the surface layer in lower area of a reservoir. This was closely related with the hydraulic behavior of the reservoir, and heavily affected by the discharges through selective withdrawal towers and watergates. Turbid water originated from stream sediments in the middle area then resuspended in the down-reservoir causing a movement between the surface and middle layers of the reservoir. Therefore, such phenomenon needs to be understood for reservoir water quality management.
In this study, fish fauna and stream characteristics were surveyed from June to October of 2014 in 31 sites of 23 small streams of Namhae Island. During the study period, 38 species belonging to 30 genera under 13 families were collected. Cyprinidae and Gobiidae fish occupied 28.9% (11 species) and Cobitidae fish accounted for 10.5% (4 species). The dominant family was Cyprinidae, and the most dominant species was Zacco koreanus with 30.3% (1,089 individuals) of the total. Eight species (33.8%) such as Zacco koreanus, Squalidus gracilis majimae, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Pseudobagrus koreanus, Iksookimia hugowolfeld, Iksookimia longicorpa, Silurus microdorsalis and Liobagrus mediadiposalis were Korean endemic and one species of Micropterus salmoides was exotic. According to the analysis of the community based on the diversity, evenness and richness indices, fish community seems to be more stable in the S7. The small streams were classified into three types of steep mountainous, mountainous-flatland, and flat land streams, and their types were categorized by their features of stream width, water depth, bottom substrate, riparian vegetation, and land use patterns. Principal component analysis based on species abundance classified fish communities into three main groups according to human impact and land-use pattern change. These results suggest that fish community structures were primary affected by the longitudinal environmental changes and these were modified by the habitat condition in accordance with the land use pattern change in the small streams.

This study was conducted during the time period of September 1997 to February 1999. in order to provide data concerning important facets of horne care nursing and the degree to which practicing hospital and public health nurses believe themselves to be competent in each area. The study subjects consisted of 610 hospital nurses, 158 public health nurses and 21 other nurses from Seoul and the province of Kyunggi. Korea. Data was collected through self-reporting questionnaires which was used by Kim et al.(1999) to evaluate the status of home health nursing and the varying ideas of self-competence that practicing nurses have. The results of the study were as follows: 1) The mean scores of perceived important components and competencies on home health nursing measured on the Likert 4 point scale were $3.15{\pm}0.36$ for importance. and $2.56{\pm}0.36$ for competency. Of the four categories regarding nursing services, the 'Nursing skill' factor had the highest importance and competency. 2) There were significantly higher scores for hospital nurses' importance components and competencies of home care nursing as compared to those scores for public health nurses. 3) The significant factors of the importance component of home care nursing listed in order of priority were 'general infection control', 'bed sore care skill', 'rehabilitation care', 'keeping maintenance of the client's confidentiality', 'malpractice', 'diabetes patient care', 'ability for problem solving' respectively. In contrast, of low priority in the importance components of home care nursing were 'referring nursing as a job to others'. 'record keeping', 'family dynamics', 'medical equipment', 'economic problems', 'environmental assessment', 'suture removal', 'multidisciplinary coordination' respectively. 4) The high priority of the degree to which practicing nurses believe themselves to be competent in home health nursing were the 'blood sugar test', 'enema skill', 'injection skill', 'skin care', 'bed sore care skill', etc. In contrast, lower competence for home care nursing as perceived by nurses were 'AIDS care', 'family violence care', 'substance abuse care', 'mental health care' respectively.

In this study, single-input transfer function model is applied to forecast monthly mean sea surface temperature(SST) in 2010 at Yeosu in Korean coastal waters. As input series, monthly mean air temperature series for ten years(2000-2009) at Yeosu in Korea is used, and Monthly mean SST at Yeosu station in Korean coastal waters is used as output series(the same period of input). To build transfer function model, first, input time series is prewhitened, and then cross-correlation functions between prewhitened input and output series are determined. The cross-correlation functions have just two significant values at time lag at 0 and 1. The lag between input and output series, the order of denominator and the order of numerator of transfer function, (b, r, s) are identified as (0, 1, 0). The selected transfer function model shows that there does not exist the lag between monthly mean air temperature and monthly mean SST, and that transfer function has a first-order autoregressive component for monthly mean SST, and that noise model was identified as $ARIMA(1,0,1)(2,0,0)_{12}$. The forecasted values by the selected transfer function model are generally $0.3-1.3^{\circ}C$ higher than actual SST in 2010 and have 6.4 % mean absolute percentage error(MAPE). The error is 2 % lower than MAPE by ARIMA model. This implies that transfer function model could be more available than ARIMA model in terms of forecasting performance of SST.
In this study, the quality characteristics of different drying methods of Aronia melanocarpa, which contains large amounts of bioactive substances, were investigated for the improvement of their practical use. During the drying period, the weight reduction was the highest with vacuum freeze drying (81.6%). The water content was reduced to the maximum level when vacuum freeze-drying was used. With regard to the color value measurement results, there were no significant differences in the $L^*$ value. Values of $a^*$ and $b^*$ were increased in vacuum freeze drying and cold air drying, but decreased in hot air drying. The hardness was increased dramatically after 36 hours of hot air drying, while with cold air drying, it increased slowly until 132 hr and increased rapidly after 132 hr. The dried yield was the highest with cold air drying (24.2%). As for the general component analysis results of Aronia melanocarpa, the moisture content was the lowest, and the crude protein and crude fat contents were the highest with vacuum freeze drying. No difference in pH value was shown among the dried Aronia melanocarpa obtained from the different drying methods, but the sugar content was the highest with vacuum freeze drying. The mineral content was the highest with cold air drying, and K, Ca, Mg, and Na were the major minerals. The free sugar content of dried Aronia melanocarpa was found to be 5.92~20.59 g/100 g, and the highest free sugar content was found with vaccum freeze drying.

This study was conducted to analyze the quality characteristics of kimchi in terms of garlic content (0~4.5%). Kimchi was made at $4^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks, and pH, acidity, organic acid content, free sugar content, microbial counts, flavor pattern, and sensory characteristics were measured. The results show that kimchi containing garlic had a higher pH and lower acidity during fermentation than control kimchi without garlic. Principal component analysis enabled differentiation of the flavor pattern of kimchi according to fermentation period and garlic content. Addition of garlic to kimchi significantly decreased the numbers of total bacteria and lactic acid bacteria for 2 weeks after production. The numbers of total bacteria and lactic acid bacteria increased rapidly up to 2 weeks during fermentation and thereafter decreased gradually. Coliform counts were higher in the control than in kimchi containing garlic, whereas there was no detection after 4 weeks. Yeast and mold counts decreased significantly with increasing garlic content during the initial fermentation stage. Counts could not be detected in kimchi containing garlic. After 4 weeks, counts could not be detected in kimchi without garlic. Among kimchi with different garlic contents, fermentation was slower in kimchi with high garlic content; scores for off-odor and off-note taste were lower as well.
Changes in proximate composition and meat weight of oysters cultured in shallow-water at Bukman bay of Tongyeong in Korea with Korean and Japanese spats were investigated. Protein content (dry basis) was rich in August and September, accounting for $70\~72\%$ in the oyster (Korean oyster) cultured with Korean spat and $75\~76\%$ in the oyster (Japanese oyster) cultured with Japanese spat. On the contrary to protein content, carbohydrate contents (dry basis) in the both oysters were poor in the both months, There was a negative correlation (r=-0.94, p<0.01) between protein and carbohydrate content during growing of the bath spats. Total lipid (TL) content was the poorest in August, which is known as spawning season, accounting for $1.4\~1.5\%$ in the both oysters. In addition, the korean oyster also showed the lowest level or TL content in october. Meat weights or the Korean and japanese oysterswere 4.2$\~$4.8 g/specimen and 7.5$\~$8.3 g/specimen, respectively, in the harvest season from November to December. Meat weight increased exponentially with TL content, $y=0,2081e^{1.5696x}$ (r=0.8856, p<0.001). These nutritional components per specimen were contained about two times more in the Japanese oyster than in the Korean one in the harvest period.

Daily variation of particulate organic carbon(POC) and some factors controlling its level were examined for a semi-enclosed bay(Wonmun Bay, south coast of Korea), in which a lot of suspended oyster culture farms existed, in September, 1992. Observations were made at hourly interval. In spite of the relatively short survey period, strong short-term variation of POC concentration could be observed. Concentrations of POC were the range of $58{\sim}582{\mu}g/l(average 272{\mu}g/l)$ and their variation pattern was similar to those of chlorophyll a with the range of $0.90{\sim}7.25{\mu}g/l(average 3.35{\mu}g/l)$. The low C/N ratios also suggested that marine microalgae was a major component of POC for Wonmun Bay. Primary production, average $1.97\;gC/m^2/day$, was the main source of POC beacuse the supply of POC via freshwater input and exchange with the outer part of the bay was little. Oyster population also excreted a small amount of POC. About $40\%$ of produced POC was decomposed heterotrophically. Another important cause for the fluctuation of observed POC was tidal cycle. Considerable POC, which amounted $37\%$ of produced POC, was lost from the bay due to flushing by tidal cycle. It was also calculated that about $16\%$ was transported onto the sediment. It seemed that a part of POC was consumed by oyster and other heterotrophs.
Although the dominant land use at the Imha-dam watershed is forest areas, soil erosion has been increasing because of intensive agricultural activities performed at the fields located along the stream for easy-access to water supply and relatively favorable topography. In addition, steep topography at the Imha-dam watershed is also contributing increased soil erosion and sediment loads. At the Imha-dam watershed, outflow has increased sharply by the typhoons Rusa and Maemi in 2002, 2003 respectively. In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was evaluated for simulation of flow and sediment behaviors with long-term temporal and spatial conditions. The precipitation data from eight precipitation observatories, located at Ilwol, Subi and etc., were used. There was no significant difference in monthly rainfall for 8 locations. However, there was slight differences in rainfall amounts and patterns in 2003 and 2004. The topographical map at 1:5000 scale from the National Geographic Information Institute was used to define watershed boundaries, the detailed soil map at 1:25,000 scale from the National Institute of Highland Agriculture and the land cover data from the Korea Institute of Water and Environment were used to simulate the hydrologic response and soil erosion and sediment behaviors. To evaluate hydrologic component of the SWAT model, calibration was performed for the period from Jan. 2002 to Dec. 2003, and validation for Jan. 2004 to Apr. 2005. The $R^2$ value and El value were 0.93 and 0.90 respectively for calibration period, and the $R^2$ value and El value for validation were 0.73 and 0.68 respectively. The $R^2$ value and El value of sediment yield data with the calibrated parameters was 0.89 and 0.84 respectively. The comparisons with the measured data showed that the SWAT model is applicable to simulate hydrology and sediment behaviors at Imha dam watershed. With proper representation of the Best Management Practices (BM Ps) in the SWAT model, the SWAT can be used for pre-evaluation of the cost-effective and sustainable soil erosion BMPs to solve sediment issues at the Imha-dam watershed. In Korea, the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been used to estimate the soil loss for over 30 years. However, there are limitations in the field scale mdel, USLE when applied for watershed. Also, the soil loss changes temporarily and spatially, for example, the Imha-dam watershed. Thus, the SW AT model, capable of simulating hydrologic and soil erosion/sediment behaviors temporarily and spatially at watershed scale, should be used to solve the muddy water issues at the Imha-dam watershed to establish more effective muddy water reduction countermeasure.

Seasonal variation in species composition of fishes in the eelgrass bed in Angel Bay of the southern coast of Korea was determined using monthly samples by a beam trawl from April 1998 to March 1999, A total of 39 species, 2,065 individuals and 8,930 g of fishes were collected during the study period. The fish were composed of the small-sized resident species and the juveniles of Leiognathus nuchalis, Pholis nebulosa, Spgnathus schlegeli and Sebastes ineinis predominated in abundance, accounting for $60{\%}$ of total number of individuals. The number of species and biomass were low from December to March when the water temperature was low, The biomass increased by the catch of a large number of L. nuchalis and S. inemis in April and May when the eelgrass grew fast. The fish numbers decreased in June and July when the adults of the resident species declined after the spawning. A large number of juveniles which had released in spring occurred in August. The biomass of fish decreased from September, and a few number of fish were collected in winter. Species were grouped into four by cluster analysis: the warm season group including P. nebulosa, S. schlegeli and L. nuchalis, the cold season group including Chaenogobius heptaoanthus and Platycephalus indieus, the group of fish species occurred during the growing season of eelgrass such as P. couoides, S. inermis and P. perooides, and the group of fish species occurred during decaying season of eelgrass such as S. cirrhifer and H. coronatus. Principal component analysis indicated that seasonal variation in species composition was determined by the water temperature and standing crops of eelgrass.
