  • Twitter is a microblogging service that allows its user to share short messages called tweets with each other. All the tweets are visible on a public timeline. These tweets have the valuable geospatial component and particularly time critical events. In this paper, our interest is in the rapid detection of disaster events such as tsunami, tornadoes, forest fires, and earthquakes. We describe the detection system of disaster events and show the way to detect a target event from Twitter data. This research examines the three disasters during the same time period and compares Twitter activity and Internet news on Google. A significant result from this research is that emergency detection could begin using microblogging service.

  • This paper propose the new demodulation method that can detect resolver signal's peak at the time of position estimation when the position information is required during current controller period. The proposed method is performed in a synchronous demodulation way with exciting signal and also cover a capability which can compensate the lag element of exciting signal caused by the resolver's inductive component and filter circuit. This paper carried out the experiment to investigate the validity and performance of the suggested method by using the test board made up of DSP and demodulation circuit. The test results show that the proposed method is theoretically clear and work completely as expected from making sure of sampling resolver signal's peak at the time of position estimation. In addition, Software position tracking algorithm is executed with the demodulated signals generated by the suggested method and an exact position can be estimated.

  • Damage detection methodologies based on the direct examination of the nonlinear-nonstationary characteristics of the structure dynamic response may play an important role in online structural health monitoring applications. Different signal processing based damage detection methodologies have been proposed based on the uncovering of spikes in the high frequency component of the structural response obtained via Discrete Wavelet transforms, Hilbert-Huang transforms or high pass filtering. The performance of these approaches in systems subjected to different types of excitation is evaluated in this paper. It is found that in the case of random excitations, like earthquake accelerations, the effectiveness of such methodologies is limited. An alternative damage detection approach using the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is also evaluated to overcome this limitation. Using the CWT has the advantage that the central frequencies at which it operates can be defined by the user while the frequency bands of the detail functions obtained via DWT are predetermined by the sampling period of the signal.

  • To investigate the biodegradation pattern of rice straw, mainly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin components, by the isolate stran Bacillus subtilis $DO_4$, the change of cell population was observed on CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose), larch wood xylan and lignosulfonate as a carbon source respectively. Also, the transition pattern of enzyme activities of cellulase and xylanase and lignin contents was measured on rice straw and mixed substrate according to growth. The results in these experiments revealed that xylanase activity was first appeared and cellulase activity in the next, while lignin component was almost not changed through the culture period.

  • Wind turbine gearbox is a complex mechanical system that includes gear trains, shafts, bearings, and gearbox housings. All these component are interacting with each other therefore changing certain design parameter will affect other components. RomaxDesigner enables a reduction in development period by simulating the full gearbox system. The gear pairs, bearings and shafts are represented as analysis objects and the complex components are modelled by means of reduced stiffness matrices. The software allows durability analysis and advanced contact analysis including the effects of system misalignments in gear and bearing. In this paper the 2MW wind turbine gearbox was model led and a study on optimum design was conducted

  • In order to upgrade the seismic resistibility of structures and enhance the functionality of an isolator, a new base isolator called the multiple trench friction pendulum system (MTFPS) is proposed in this study. The proposed MTFPS isolator is composed of a trench concave surface and several intermediate sliding plates in two orthogonal directions. Mathematical formulations have been derived to examine the characteristics of the proposed MTFPS isolator possessing numerous intermediate sliding plates. By means of mathematical formulations which have been validated by experimental results of bidirectional ground shaking, it can be inferred that the natural period and damping effect of the MTFPS isolator with several intermediate sliding plates can be altered continually and controllably during earthquakes. Furthermore, results obtained from the component and shaking table tests demonstrate that the proposed isolator provides good protection to structures for prevention of damage from strong earthquakes.

  • The n-alkanes which are stable compounds in the atmosphere are emitted by anthropogenic sources and biological sources. The goal of this study is to understand characteristics of n-alkane distributions in $PM_{2.5}$ of the Anmyeon Island which is one of background site in Korea. The concentration of n-alkanes in $PM_{2.5}$ was measured at Anmyeon Island for one year from June 2015 to May 2016. The average concentration of total n-alkanes (${\sum}$ n-alkanes) from C20 to C34 was $14.02{\pm}10.26ng\;m^{-3}$ and ranged from 1.77 to $47.65ng\;m^{-3}$. Various diagnostic parameters were used to identify the source. As a result, it is considered that Anmyeon Island had a large influence of biological sources during non-heating period, while the influence of anthropogenic emission during the heating period was significant. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) was performed and yielded three components that accounted for 93.6% of the total variance in n-alkanes. Factor 1, which accounted for 42.3% of the total variance, indicated anthropogenic source including fossil fuel and biomass combustion, while, Factor 3 was interpreted as the biological sources such as plant wax.

  • A scientific analysis was performed on the gold belt with eight dangling ornaments discovered in the large Silla period Seobongchong Tomb. The object's gold sheets, nails, curved ornaments and gold wire were analyzed separately. Results show that all the components are gold-silver alloy, each varying in overall alloy composition. Gold sheets of two different gold contents are used for the belt, 17-18K gold and 19-20K gold, this seemingly by design. Nails are 20K gold, while the curved ornaments and gold wire of the belt are mostly 18K gold. Gold sheets for the dangling ornaments are mainly of 17-19K gold. Connecting rings used in the dangling ornaments are 17-19K gold, nails 17-20K gold and the curved ornaments and wire 19K gold.

  • We present a detailed period analysis for the F-type primary of ${\in}$ Aurigae by means of Fourier and wavelet algorithm. After collecting all available data which have been observed for around 160 years (1842 - 2006) from various international databases and published references we selected only data obtained during outside eclipse among them again. As a result of analysis using CLEANest and WWZ(weighted wavelet Z-transform) several frequencies including two clear periods ($67^d\;and\;123^d$) were found. In contrast to previous results that the periods vary irregularly it seems that the primary of ${\in}$ Aurigae is double mode or multiperiodic pulsator. The presence of the two periods and their ratio indicates that the high-mass interpretation of the variable could be valid. Also better understanding of the mechanisms driving the light variability of F-type supergiant stars requires continual series of photometric and radial velocity measurements in outside eclipse of this star.

  • Objectives : Clozapine has been known to increase the possibility of developing cardio/cerebrovascular diseases, and the platelet activation has been deemed to be related to the occurrence of them. In author's previous study, we observed the increase of platelet activity with short-term clozapine administration. This study was conducted, as a follow-up study, to investigate the effect of clozapine on the platelet activity when administered continuously for long-term period of time of 1 year. Methods : The medical records of the patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder who were treated with clozapine for 1 year were retrospectively reviewed. The degree of platelet activation was assessed by measuring the mean platelet component. Results : Total of 24 patients were enrolled. 9 of them (37.5%) were male and 15 of them (62.5%) were female. In the Wilcoxon sign-ranks test, no significant change was observed between the mean platelet factor values at the beginning and at the end of one year. Conclusions : No significant changes of mean platelet activity were observed after continued administration of clozapine for 1 year. Considering the author's previous findings that observed a prominent decrease of mean platelet component after short-term clozapine administration, the result of this study suggests the possibility that the activity of the platelet may change depending on the duration of the clozapine administration.
