Invisible Watermarking for Improved Security of Digital Video Application (디지털 동영상 어플리케이션의 향상된 보안성을 위한 비시각적인 워터마킹)

  • Performance of digital video watermarking is an assessment that hides a lot of information in digital videos. Therefore, it is required to find a way that enables to store lots of bits of data into a high quality video of the frequency area of digital contents. Hence, this paper designs a watermarking system improving security with an enhancing watermarking based on invisible watermarking and embedding an watermarking on LH and HL subband and its subband by transforming wavelet after the extraction of luminance component from the frames of video by compromising robustness and invisible of watermarking elements. The performance analysis of security of watermarking is carried out with a statistic method, and makes an assessment of robustness against variety of attacks to invisible watermarking. We can verify the security of watermarking against variety of attacks by testing robustness and invisible through carrying out general signal processing like noise addition, lossy compression, and Low-Pass filtering.

Hybrid Error Concealment Algorithm for Intra-Frame in H.264 (H.264의 인트라 프레임을 위한 하이브리드 에러 은닉 알고리즘)

  • H.264 is the prominent video coding standard in various applications such as real-time video streaming and digital multimedia broadcasting, since it provides enhanced compression performance, error resilience tools, and network adaptation. Since compressed video stream is vulnerable to packet loss, error resilience and error concealment(EC) tools are essential for the transmission of video over the Internet. In this paper, we first propose a simple temporal EC method that improves the EC performance for intra-frame in H.264 when the amount of motion is relatively small. Then we propose a new hybrid EC method for intra-frame in H.264, which combines the spatial EC and temporal EC adaptively. The simulations are performed in packet-lossy environments, and the proposed hybrid EC method shows about 0.5-4dB PSNR improvement compared to the conventional spatial EC method that is used for intra-frame in H.264.

  • T-DMB (Terrestrial-DMB) service is now available in the metropolitan area, but due to the bandwidth limitation, it is allowed to provide up to CIF resolution. As users' requests for high-quality mobile multimedia services are rapidly increasing and additional bandwidth can be provided by adopting the hierarchical modulation transmission technology, the research on the Advanced Terrestrial-DMB(AT-DMB) service using the SVC(Scalable Video Coding) scheme is being actively studied. In this paper, through computer simulations, first, while keeping the current T-DMB service unchanged, the visual qualities of AT-DMB services are investigated by varying the additional bandwidth. Then, by considering the cases that the overall bandwidth can be allowed to dynamically allocate to the T-DMB/AT-DMB video services, the performance characteristics between two layers are compared over the different kinds of video sequences.

  • In designing a video-on-demand (VoD) system, the major challenge may be how to reduce the channels concurrently used maintaining the client's waiting time. For this reason, the various architectures which integrate the multicast streams with the unicast streams were suggested in order to improve channel efficiency in recent years. In combining multicast with unicast, the ways to group the unicast channels together are important so that clients can share the multicast transmission channels. This paper proposes a hybrid video-on-demand system which gathers the unicast channels in new ways and shares multicast transmission channels efficiently by using dynamic channel allocation architecture. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed architecture in some case achieves performance gain of $551{\%}$ compared to existing architecture. This paper presents procedure of channel release and reuse, performance analysis, and simulation results of the dynamic channel allocation architecture.

A Fast Block Matching Motion Estimation Algorithm by using an Enhanced Cross-Flat Hexagon Search Pattern (개선된 크로스-납작한 육각 탐색 패턴을 이용한 고속 블록 정합 움직임 예측 알고리즘)

  • For video compression, we have to consider two performance factors that are the search speed and coded video's quality. In this paper, we propose an enhanced fast block matching algorithm using the spatial correlation of the video sequence and the center-biased characteristic of motion vectors(MV). The proposed algorithm first finds a predicted motion vector from the adjacent macro blocks of the current frame and determines an exact motion vector using the cross pattern and a flat hexagon search pattern. From the performance evaluations, we can see that our algorithm outperforms both the hexagon-based search(HEXBS) and the cross-hexagon search(CHS) algorithms in terms of the search speed and coded video's quality. Using our algorithm, we can improve the search speed by up to 31%, and also increase the PSNR(Peak Signal Noise Ratio) by at most 0.5 dB, thereby improving the video quality.

Real-time Video Playback Method for N-Screen Service Based on Windows Azure (Windows Azure 기반의 N-스크린 서비스를 위한 실시간 동영상 재생 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time video playback scheme for the N-Screen service based on Windows Azure. This scheme creates several playback blocks based on the performance of each node by non-uniform splitting of the original video. To reduce transcoding-time, it allocates the playback blocks to a corresponding node by transcoding the playback blocks. Through the simulation, we show that it is more effective to use real-time video playback for the N-screen service than the previous method. The proposed scheme splits an AVI format 300MB source video with non-uniform playback blocks. It allocates the playback blocks to the heterogeneous node of Windows Azure, the commercial cloud system and measures of transcoding-time by transcoding non-uniform playback blocks to mp4 and Flv format. As a result, the proposed scheme improves the performance of the N-screen service based on Windows Azure compared to the previous uniform split strategy.

  • We propose an adaptive load balancing scheme to transport real-time video streams efficiently in this paper. The playback buffer level of a video requesting client is high or low temporarily in mobile environment. This scheme attempts to allocate more network bandwidth to serve a video request with the lower buffer level preferentially. In this scheme, the amount of network bandwidth is dynamically allocated to the requesting clients according to their playback buffer levels in a distributed mobile system. In order to improve the quality of service and real-time performance of individual video playback, the proposed load balancing scheme tries to maximize the number of frames that are transported successfully to the client prior to their playback times. Fair services can also be provided to all the concurrent clients by making their playback situation more adaptive. The performance of this load balancing scheme is compared with that of other static load balancing scheme through extensive simulation experiments, resulting in the higher ratio of frames transmitted successfully within given deadlines.

  • Recently for the transfer of large size video file between sites for high-definition craft editing used by broadcasting company the Public Network is used a lot. In the IP Public Network with QoS(Quality-of-Service) not guaranteed, degradation of performance has several causes. In this paper, we have analyzed the causes of low performance to transfer a large size HD video file in long distance, in order to maximize the effectiveness, the high efficiency network could be implemented enabling the highspeed of HD video file using the connection with networks between hosts through packet creation and multi-session of Parallel TCP. We survey the result of high speed transfer system and verify the efficient transfer method using Public IP Network for large HD video file transfer in broadcasting cooperation.

  • In this paper, we propose multicast technique in order to reduce the required network bandwidth by n times, by merging the adjacent multicasts depending on the number of HENs (Head-End-Nodes) n that request the same video. Allowing new clients to immediately join an existing multicast through patching improves the efficiency of the multicast and offers services without any initial latency. A client might have to download data through two channels simultaneously, one for multicast and the other for patching. The more the frequency of requesting the video is, the higher the probability of caching it among HENs increases. Therefore, the requests for the cached video data can be served by HENs. Multicast from server is generated when the playback time exceeds the amount of cached video data. Since the interval of multicast can be dynamically expanded according to the popularity of videos, it can be reduced the server's workload and the network bandwidth. We perform simulations to compare its performance with that of conventional multicast. From simulation results, we confirm that the Proposed multicast technique offers substantially better performance.

Determination of Reserved Channel Capacity for Popular Videos in Video-on-Demand Systems (주문형 비디오 시스템에서 인기 비디오를 위한 예약 채널 용량의 결정)

  • Video-on-Demand (VOD) service needs high resource consumption because of high bandwidth and long playback duration which are characteristics of multimedia. Various techniques such as Patching and Channel-Reserving Patching have been proposed to reduce the demand on the network-I/O bandwidth. Patching allows new clients to join an existing multicast for realization of true VOD, and Channel-Reserving Patching reserves the part of total channel capacity of video server in order to serve the requests for popular videos on which requests of users concentrate. To improve the performance of Channel-Reserving Patching, we propose the method that determines the reserved channel capacity of video server for the popular videos in this paper. The performance of our method is evaluated in terms of average servile latency, defection ratio and fairness through simulation, and is compared with those of Patching and another Channel-Reserving Patching.
