Design of Pipeline-based Failure Recovery Method for VOD Server (파이프라인 개념을 이용한 VOD 서버의 장애 복구 방법 연구)

  • A cluster server usually consists of a front end node and multiple backend nodes. Though increasing the number of bookend nodes can result in the more QoS(Quality of Service) streams for clients, the possibility of failures in backend nodes is proportionally increased. The failure causes not only the stop of all streaming service but also the loss of the current playing positions. In this paper, when a backend node becomes a failed state, the recovery mechanisms are studied to support the unceasing streaming service. The basic techniques are hewn as providing very high speed data transfer rates suitable for the video streaming. However, without considering the architecture of cluster-based VOD server, the application of these basic techniques causes the performance bottleneck of the internal network for recovery and also results in the inefficiency CPU usage of backend nodes. To resolve these problems, we propose a new failure recovery mechanism based on the pipeline computing concept.

Utilization of AeroMACS Infrastructure for Airports and Airlines (공항 및 항공사를 위한 AeroMACS 인프라 활용 연구)

  • AeroMACS spectrum is a national resource internationally allocated by ITU at WRC-07. AeroMACS is an airport broadband mobile communication infrastructure based on WiMAX-based IEEE 802.16e that enables real-time video, graphics, voice, and high-speed data transmission. With the approval of ICAO's development technology standards in 2008, 50 airports in 11 countries have already completed the testing of D-TAXI or A-SMGCS technology using the AeroMACS infrastructure in 2019, starting in the United States in 2009. With many advantages in safety and convenience in terrestrial telecommunications operations, the system is becoming an area of performance improvement for airport operations in accordance with ICAO's ASBU plan. This paper examines the current status of domestic development of AeroMACS and lists service areas applicable to airlines and operators. It also seeks to promote safe and efficient next-generation airport mobile communication system services by presenting feasible partners management in the mobile area and use of aircraft communication systems for active technology development.

Fast Motion Estimation Technique using Efficient Prediction of Motion Vectors (움직임 벡터의 효율적 예측을 이용한 고속 움직임 추정 기법)

  • This paper proposes an enhanced motion estimation that is one of core parts affecting the coding performance and visual quality in video coding. Although the full search technique, which is the most basic method of the motion estimation, presents the best visual quality, its computational complexity is great, since the search procedures to find the best matched block with each block in the current frame are carried out for all points inside the search area. Thus, various fast algorithms to reduce the computational complexity and maintain good visual quality have been proposed. The PMVFAST adopted the MPEG-4 visual standard produces the visual quality near that by the full search technique with the reduced computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a new motion vector prediction method using median processing. The proposed method reduces the computational complexity for the motion estimation significantly. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is faster than the PMVFAST and better than the full search in terms of search speed and average PSNR, respectively.

Assessment of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine Clinical Practice Using the Objective Structured Clinical Examination

  • Background: The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is a widely used method to assess the clinical performance of students in clinical practice. Although OSCE has been used for undergraduate students of Korean medicine, this has not been widely reported. Methods: In 2020, the practical course for acupuncture and moxibustion medicine (acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, auricular acupuncture, and burning acupuncture) was taught using flipped learning, according to clinical practice guidelines, and assessed by the OSCE. The appropriateness of this model of education and its evaluation using OSCE were evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale, and the results were analyzed. Results: Of the respondents, 67% reported that the OSCE accurately reflected their competency, and 82% reported that online video lectures helped them to improve their clinical skills. The average adequacy score of the model was > 3.7/5, and the average adequacy score of the checklist used in the OSCE was > 4.1/5 for all 5 clinical application skills. The difference in the mean self-efficacy score between students who had taken the OSCE and those students who had not taken the OSCE, was highest in the burning acupuncture group (0.923). Conclusion: This study showed that students' satisfaction with the OSCE was high and flipped learning was an effective education model. In the future, models representing the human body or simulated patients should be used to evaluate students' skills and attitude.

  • As the use of smart devices is being increased rapidly by the development of internet and IT technology, the contents production and utilization rate are showing higher increase, too. In addition, the type of contents also shows very diverse forms such as education, game, video, UCC, etc. In the meantime, the contents are reproduced in diverse forms by reprocessing the original contents, and they are being serviced through the contents service platform. Therefore, the platform to make the contents reprocessing easy and fast is needed. As the diverse contents distribution channels such as YouTube, SNS, App Service, etc, easier contents distribution platform is needed, and the development of the relevant area is expected. In addition, as the selective consumption of the contents having easy accessibility through diverse smart devices is distinguished, the demand for the platform and service that can identify the contents consumption propensity by individual is being increased. Therefore, in this study, to vitalize the online contents distribution, the contents reproduction and publishing platform, was designed and materialized, which can reproduce and distribute the contents based on the real-time contents editing technology in URL unit and the consumer propensity analysis technology using the data management-based broadcasting contents distribution metadata technology and the edited image contents streaming technology. In addition, in the results of comparing with other platforms through the experiment, the performance superiority of the suggested platform was verified. If the suggested platform is applied to the areas of education, broadcasting, press, etc, the multi-media contents can be reproduced and distributed easily, through which the vitalization of contents-related industry is expected.

Vision-based Real-time Vehicle Detection and Tracking Algorithm for Forward Collision Warning (전방 추돌 경보를 위한 영상 기반 실시간 차량 검출 및 추적 알고리즘)

  • The cause of the majority of vehicle accidents is a safety issue due to the driver's inattention, such as drowsy driving. A forward collision warning system (FCWS) can significantly reduce the number and severity of accidents by detecting the risk of collision with vehicles in front and providing an advanced warning signal to the driver. This paper describes a low power embedded system based FCWS for safety. The algorithm computes time to collision (TTC) through detection, tracking, distance calculation for the vehicle ahead and current vehicle speed information with a single camera. Additionally, in order to operate in real time even in a low-performance embedded system, an optimization technique in the program with high and low levels will be introduced. The system has been tested through the driving video of the vehicle in the embedded system. As a result of using the optimization technique, the execution time was about 170 times faster than that when using the previous non-optimized process.

  • A chatbot is an interactive assistant that utilizes many communication modes: voice, images, video, or text. It is an artificial intelligence-based application that responds to users' needs or solves problems during user-friendly conversation. However, the current version of the chatbot is focused on understanding and performing tasks requested by the user; its ability to generate personalized conversation suitable for relationship-building is limited. Recognizing the need to build a relationship and making suitable conversation is more important for social chatbots who require social skills similar to those of problem-solving chatbots like the intelligent personal assistant. The purpose of this study is to propose a text analysis method that evaluates relationships between chatbots and users based on content input by the user and adapted to the communication situation, enabling the chatbot to conduct suitable conversations. To evaluate the performance of this method, we examined learning and verified the results using actual SNS conversation records. The results of the analysis will aid in implementation of the social chatbot, as this method yields excellent results even when the private profile information of the user is excluded for privacy reasons.

  • In this paper, we designed a product that can prevent environmental pollution, waste of resources, and leakage of foreign currency by commercializing a green IT solution by merging a used smart phone with the IoT object communication technology for the first time in the world. For the experiment of the designed system, various performance and communication condition was experimented by installing it in the actual crop cultivation facility. As a result, when a problem occurs, the alarm sound and video notification are generated by the user's smart phone, and remote control of various installed devices and data analysis in real time are possible. In this study, it is thought that the terminal management board developed for the utilization of the used smart phone can be applied to various fields such as agriculture and environment.

Fast Motion Estimation Algorithm using Filters of Multiple Thresholds (다중 문턱치 필터를 이용한 고속 움직임 예측 알고리즘)

  • So many fast motion estimation algorithms for prediction quality and computational reduction have been published due to tremendous computations of full search algorithm. In the paper, we suggest an algorithm that reduces computation effectively, while keeping prediction quality as almost same as that of the full search. The proposed algorithm based on multiple threshold filter calculates the sum of partial block matching error for each candidate, selects the candidates for the next step, compares the stability of optimal candidates with minimum error, removes impossible candidates, and calculates optimal motion vectors by determining the progress of the next step. By doing that, we can find the minimum error point as soon as possible and obtain the better performance of calculation speed by reducing unnecessary computations. The proposed algorithm can be combined with conventional fast motion estimation algorithms as well as by itself, further reduce computation while keeping the prediction quality as almost same as the algorithms, and prove it in the experimental results.

Design and Implementation of Vehicle Control Network Using WiFi Network System (WiFi 네트워크 시스템을 활용한 차량 관제용 네트워크의 설계 및 구현)

  • Recent researches on autonomous driving of vehicles are becoming very active, and it is a trend to assist safe driving and improve driver's convenience. Autonomous vehicles are required to combine artificial intelligence, image recognition capability, and Internet communication between objects. Because mobile telecommunication networks have limitations in their processing, they can be easily implemented and scale using an easily expandable Wi-Fi network. We propose a wireless design method to construct such a vehicle control network. We propose the arrangement of AP and the software configuration method to minimize loss of data transmission / reception of mobile terminal. Through the design of the proposed network system, the communication performance of the moving vehicle can be dramatically increased. We also verify the packet structure of GPS, video, voice, and data communication that can be used for the vehicle through experiments on the movement of various terminal devices. This wireless design technology can be extended to various general purpose wireless networks such as 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 10GHz Wi-Fi. It is also possible to link wireless intelligent road network with autonomous driving.
