Implementation of FTTH System based on Ethernet PON Technology (이더넷 PON 기술 기반 FTTH 시스템 구현)

  • This paper addresses the implementation of FTTH system based on Ethernet PON technololy. This system consists of OLT and ONT. OLT supports the maximum 24 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and then has the flexibility and the scalability for supplying digital communication and broadcasting convergence service in the near future. OLT system consists of switch module, subscriber module, processor module, and E-PON link module, and has the operating system based on Linux. ONT is installed in customer premise to supply both IP-TV and Internet service. Also ONT has the dedicated interface for IP-TV to improve the transmission characteristics of IP-TV signal. We measure the performance of E-PON MAC through this system and then QoS control characteristics per franc in ONT by separating the virtual link for IP-TV from that for data.

Management System of On-line Mode Client-cluster (온라인 모드 클라이언트-클러스터 운영 시스템)

  • Research results have demonstrated that conventional client-server databases have scalability problem in the presence of many concurrent clients. The multi-tier architecture that exploits similarities in clients' object access behavior partitions clients into logical clusters according to their object request pattern. As a result, object requests that are served inside the clusters, server load and request response time can be optimized. Management of clustering by utilizing clients' access pattern-based is an important component for the system's goal. Off-line methods optimizes the quality of the global clustering, the necessary cost and clustering schedule needs to be considered and planned carefully in respect of stable system's performance. In this paper, we propose methods that detect changes in access behavior and optimize system configuration in real time. Finally this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of on-line change detection and results of experimental investigation concerning reconfiguration.

Mesochronous Clock Based Synchronizer Design for NoC (위상차 클럭 기반 NoC 용 동기회로 설계)

  • Network on a chip(NoC) is a communication subsystem between intellectual property(IP) cores in a SoC and improves high performance in the scalability and the power efficiency compared with conventional buses and crossbar switches. NoC needs a synchronizer to overcome the metastability problem between data links. This paper presents a new mesochronous synchronizer(MS) which is composed of selection window generator, selection signal generator, and data buffer. A delay line circuit is used to build selection window in selection window generator based on the delayed clock cycle of transmitted clock and the transmitted clock is compared with local clock to generate a selection signal in the SW(selection window). This MS gets rid of the restriction of metastability by choosing a rising edge or a falling edge of local clock according to the value of selection signal. The simulation results show that the proposed MS operates correctly for all phase differences between a transmitted clock and a local clock.

  • An overlay network is a virtual network which is constructed on top of a physical computer network. A node in the overlay network is connected through virtual or logical links, where each link corresponds to a path of the links in the underlying physical network. Overlay networks are suitable for sharing heterogeneous resources in distributed environments, However, overlay networks are limited for achieving reliable communication that failure detection in overlay networks is a very important issue. In this paper, we review conditions of conventional failure detection and propose a new approach to failure detection and resilience which can be applied to HRing (Hierarchical Ring) overlay networks. The proposed method consists of the failure detection and the failure resilience phases. Because it utilizes the characteristics of the HRing overlay network for failure detection, it can reduce unnecessary network traffic and provide better scalability and flexibility. We also analyzed and evaluated the performance of the proposed approach through simulations.

  • The nano-sized quantum structure has been an attractive candidate for investigations of the fundamental physical properties and potential applications of next-generation electronic devices. Metal nano-particles form deep quantum wells between control and tunnel oxides due to a difference in work functions. The charge storage capacity of nanoparticles has led to their use in the development of nano-floating gate memory (NFGM) devices. When compared with conventional floating gate memory devices, NFGM devices offer a number of advantages that have attracted a great deal of attention: a greater inherent scalability, better endurance, a faster write/erase speed, and more processes that are compatible with conventional silicon processes. To improve the performance of NFGM, metal nanocrystals such as Au, Ag, Ni Pt, and W have been proposed due to superior density, a strong coupling with the conduction channel, a wide range of work function selectivity, and a small energy perturbation. In the present study, bismuth metal nanocrystals were self-assembled within high-k $Bi_2Mg_{2/3}Nb_{4/3}O_7$ (BMN) films grown at room temperature in Ar ambient via radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. The work function of the bismuth metal nanocrystals (4.34 eV) was important for nanocrystal-based nonvolatile memory (NVM) applications. If transparent NFGM devices can be integrated with transparent solar cells, non-volatile memory fields will open a new platform for flexible electron devices.

A Parallel Algorithm for Large DOF Structural Analysis Problems (대규모 자유도 문제의 구조해석을 위한 병렬 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, an efficient two-level parallel domain decomposition algorithm is suggested to solve large-DOF structural problems. Each subdomain is composed of the coarse problem and local problem. In the coarse problem, displacements at coarse nodes are computed by the iterative method that does not need to assemble a stiffness matrix for the whole coarse problem. Then displacements at local nodes are computed by Multi-Frontal Sparse Solver. A parallel version of PCG(Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method) is developed to solve the coarse problem iteratively, which minimizes the data communication amount between processors to increase the possible problem DOF size while maintaining the computational efficiency. The test results show that the suggested algorithm provides scalability on computing performance and an efficient approach to solve large-DOF structural problems.

  • A multi-user virtual reality system supports shared environments for concurrent accesses by multiple users. The performance of these systems depends heavily on the network environments. This paper experiments an effective network model for shared virtual environments. This model has a middle layer called groups placed between the server and its clients, and the tasks of server are distributed to these groups. Using groups solves some of the problems of existing systems such as lack of scalability, message overheads, and latency due to message passing among locally communicating entities in the virtual environment. Some experiments show lower overhead than existing distributed virtual environment systems in WAN as well as LAN environments. This model also supports a method that can be used to construct application specific network environments using message handler which allows user-defined message formats.

Electrical Characteristics of Tunneling Field-effect Transistors using Vertical Tunneling Operation Based on AlGaSb/InGaAs

  • This paper presents the electrical performances of novel AlGaSb/InGaAs heterojunction-based vertical-tunneling field-effect transistor (VTFET). The device performance was investigated in views of the on-state current ($I_{on}$), drain-induced barrier thinning (DIBT), and subthreshold swing (SS) as the gate length ($L_G$) was scaled down. The proposed TFET with a $L_G$ of 5 nm operated with an $I_{on}$ of $1.3mA/{\mu}m$, a DIBT of 40 mV/V, and an SS of 23 mV/dec at a drain voltage ($V_{DS}$) of 0.23 V. The proposed TFET provided approximately 25 times lower DIBT and 12 times smaller SS compared with the conventional $L_G$ of 5 nm TFET. The AlGaSb/InGaAs VTFET showed extremely high scalability and strong immunity against short-channel effects.

M2M Technology based Global Heathcare Platform (M2M 기반의 글로벌 헬스케어 시스템 플랫폼)

  • A global healthcare system based on M2M technology is proposed to support a good mobility, flexibility and scalability to the patients in 6LoWPAN. Sensor nodes integrated with wearable sensors are linked to gateway with IEEE 802.15.4 protocol and 6LoWPAN protocol for data acquisition and transmission purpose via external network. In the server, heart rate variability signals are obtained by signal processing and used for time and frequency domain performance analysis to evaluate the patient's health status. Our approach for global healthcare system with non-invasive and continuous IP-based communication is managed to process large amount of biomedical signals in the large scale of service range accurately.

  • Personalized reminder systems have to identify the user's current needs dynamically and proactively based on the user's current context. However, need identification methodologies and their feasible architectures for personalized reminder systems have been so far rare. Hence, this paper aims to propose a proactive need awaring mechanism by applying agent, semantic web technologies and RFID-based context subsystem for a personalized reminder system which is one of the supporting systems for a robust ubiquitous service support environment. RescorlaWagner model is adopted as an underlying need awaring theory. We have created a prototype system called NAMA(Need Aware Multi-Agent)-RFID, to demonstrate the feasibility of the methodology and of the mobile settings framework that we propose in this paper. NAMA considers the context, user profile with preferences, and information about currently available services, to discover the user's current needs and then link the user to a set of services, which are implemented as web services. Moreover, to test if the proposed system works in terms of scalability, a simulation was performed and the results are described.
