This paper describes a single channel speech enhancement as the pre-processor of automatic speech recognition system. The improvements are based on using optimally modified log-spectra (OM-LSA) gain function with a non-causal a priori signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives better perceptual evaluation of speech quality score (PESQ) and lower log-spectral distance, and also better word accuracy. In the enhancement system, parameters was turned for automatic speech recognition.
In this paper, we propose a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm for CELP speech coders, which is based on multiple adaptive codebooks by using comfort noise for the lost packet recovery. The multiple adaptive codebooks are composed of a conventional adaptive codebook to model periodic excitation of speech and another adaptive codebook to provide a better estimate of excitation when packets are lost in the speech onset region. The performance of the proposed PLC algorithm is evaluated by implementing it into the G.729 decoder and compared with that of the PLC algorithm employed in the G.729 decoder by means of perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ). It is shown from the experiments under different burstiness of packet loss rates of 3% and 5% that the proposed PLC algorithm provides higher PESQ scores than the G.729 PLC algorithm.
This paper describes an algorithm to suppress composite noise in a two-microphone speech enhancement system for robust hands-free speech communication. The proposed algorithm has four stages. The first stage estimates the power spectral density of the residual stationary noise, which is based on the detection of nonstationary signal-dominant time-frequency bins (TFBs) at the generalized sidelobe canceller output. Second, speech-dominant TFBs are identified among the previously detected nonstationary signal-dominant TFBs, and power spectral densities of speech and residual nonstationary noise are estimated. In the final stage, the bin-wise output signal-to-noise ratio is obtained with these power estimates and a Wiener post-filter is constructed to attenuate the residual noise. Compared to the conventional beamforming and post-filter algorithms, the proposed speech enhancement algorithm shows significant performance improvement in terms of perceptual evaluation of speech quality.
The goal of this research is to improve the quality of reconstructed speech in the Distributed Speech Recognition (DSR) system. For the extended DSR, we estimate the variable Maximum Voiced Frequency (MVF) from Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) based on Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), to implement realistic harmonic plus noise model for the excitation signal. For the standard DSR, we also make the voiced/unvoiced decision from MFCC based on GMM because the pitch information is not available in that case. The perceptual test reveals that speech reconstructed by the proposed method is preferred to the one by the conventional methods.

Articulation disorders are characterized by an inability to achieve clear pronunciation due to misuse of the articulators. In this paper, a method of detecting such disorders by comparing to the standard pronunciations is proposed. This method defines the standard pronunciations from the speeches of normal children by clustering them with three features which are the Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficient (LPCC), the Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC), and the Relative Spectral Analysis Perceptual Linear Prediction (RASTA-PLP). By calculating the distance between the centroid of the standard pronunciation and the inputted pronunciation, disordered speech whose features locates outside the cluster is detected. 89 children (58 of normal children and 31 of children with disorders) were recruited. 35 U-TAP test words were selected and each word's standard pronunciation is made from normal children and compared to each pronunciation of children with disorders. In the experiments, the pronunciations with disorders were successfully distinguished from the standard pronunciations.
Recently, several steganographic algorithms for two-color binary images have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a steganographic algorithm which embeds a secret message into bitmap images and palette-based images. To embed a message, the suggested algorithm divides a bitmap image into bit-plane images from LSB-plane to MSB-plane for each pixel, and considers each bit-plane image as a binary one. The algorithm splits each bit-plane image into m$\times$n blocks. and embeds a r-bit(r=[log$_2$(mn+1]-1) message into the block. And our schemes embed a message to every bit-plane from LSB to MSB to maximize the amount of embedded message and to minimize the degradation. The schemes change at most two pixels in each block. Therefore, the maximal color changes of the new algorithm are much smaller than other bit-plane embedding schemes' such as the substantial substitution schemes.
