The purpose of this study was to explore kindergarten students' attitude toward science by their gender and teachers' background. 90 kindergarten teachers and 180 5-year-old students were intentionally sampled in a suburban area. The research instruments used in this study were the interview questions of student attitude to science and the teacher's background questionnaire. The interview questions constructed by two researchers, based on "The Students' Attitude to Science Scale"(Pell & Farvis, 2001). It was composed of 13 questions; 7 questions on preference for science and 6 on perception to science. The teacher's background questionnaire was consisted of I question on educational background, I on career, and 51 on scientific literacy("Test of Basic Scientific Literacy")(Laugksch & Spargo, 1996). The results revealed that the students' attitude to science was positive and was different by their teachers' educational background, not by their gender and their teacher's career and scientific literacy. However, the students showed different preference for science by their teachers' scientific literacy. These results imply that early childhood teachers should have enough chances to be more educated and to improve their scientific literacy.
The purpose of this study was to examine the kindergarten teachers' perception and need for kindergarten consulting. The subjects in this study were 178 kindergarten teachers who worked in kindergarten in the city of Busan. The data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics by the SPSS 18.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: First, kindergarten teachers' perceptions for kindergarten consulting were above average in all areas. Concerning the impact of the variables for kindergarten teachers, there were statistically significant differences in perceptions for kindergarten consulting according to their career, academic credential, license, and the type of instruction. Second, regarding the need of the kindergarten teachers for kindergarten consulting, the need in the area of teaching consulting was highest. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of background variables, development stage, and perception of accountability on kindergarten teachers' adaptation to the teaching profession. The researchers surveyed 224 teachers in public and private kindergarten. The results of the study are as follows: First, in terms of age, the older they were, the better teachers adjusted to the teaching profession. As for their teaching career, the more teaching experience they had, the better teachers adapted to the teaching profession, but there were no significant differences between 6-10 years and more than 11 years. As to the level of education, four-year college graduates or graduate school graduates adjusted better than two-year college graduates. Second, teachers in the Capability Development Stage and Growth-Enthusiasm Stage showed a higher degree of adaptation than those in the Entrance-Acceptance Stage. Finally, the higher perception of accountability they have, the better teachers could adapt to the teaching profession. Among the categories of accountability, the professional accountability affected most highly the teachers' adaptation to the teaching profession.
This study investigated the perceptions of elementary school preservice teachers in their 4th year at K-Education University, an elementary school teacher-training institution, on the nature of science (NOS). To examine the differences in elementary school preservice teachers' perceptions of NOS according to their high school career aptitude, we conducted in-depth interviews with two students each in the humanities and social sciences (HS) and natural sciences (NS) based on the subjects that they had taken while attending high school. For this purpose, we used the Views of Nature of Science Form C (VNOS-C) and Views about Scientific Inquiry (VASI) questionnaires, which were reconfigured. The main research results were that the elementary school preservice teachers showed a positivistic perspective on the NOS, validity of scientific knowledge, difference between theory and law, and social and cultural embeddedness of science. However, they had a latest perspective on the tentativeness of scientific knowledge, observation and inference, and the role of imagination and creativity. In particular, there were clear differences in perception between HS and NS teachers in the areas of tentativeness of scientific knowledge and understanding of observation and inference. Based on these research results, educational implications for improving the science education competencies of preservice elementary school teachers were proposed.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the perception and the knowledge of the Korean traditional foods in elementary school students. For the investigation, 373 fifth-grade elementary school students in Incheon were surveyed by a questionnaire, and the data were analized by the SPSS 10.0 program. The result showed that 85% of the surveyed schoolchildren showed the interest in the Korean traditional foods. It also revealed that female students are more interested in the traditional food than male students and the children of the career woman are more interested than those of the housewives. As for the motive of their interest, 39.7% of the subjects answered 'through mass media'. Male students and the children of the housewives got the interest through their mother, and female students and the children of the career woman got the interest through their hobby of cooking food. Among the traditional foods, 76.4% of the children designated kimchi as the most proud traditional food. As for the reasons of reducing traditional food use, 39.9% of students responded because of 'not-tasty' and 28.7% of students replied because of 'not enough time to cook'. But 62.2% of the subjects thought the traditional foods should be more used in the future. As for the succession and development of the traditional foods, 33.8% of the subjects said it should be carried out by the family. The basic knowledge score of the traditional foods was 5.78 on a scale of 10, which showed relatively low level. The lower their basic knowledge, the less their interest in the traditional foods was. The samgyetang, ogokbap and bindaetteok were the most perceived traditional foods. The cheonggukjang, nabakgimchi and jindallaehwajeon were the foods they had seen, but the they didnot have heard or seen the others. Among the traditional foods, susugyeongdan, jindallaehwajeon and dasik were more perceived by the schoolchildren in the rural area than those in the urban area. The jindallaehwajeon and dasik were more perceived by female students than by male students. Therefore, in order to make elementary schoolchildren take the traditional foods with pride by increasing their perception and knowledge of them, the family should give them many opportunities to eat traditional foods. The school also should try to establish a cooperative relationship to the family of schoolchilderen and use more Korean traditional foods in the school's meal program. Furthermore, the society's concern and support are necessary and also the role of mass media, which have great influence on children, is important.
Objectives : This study was aimed to assess the current educational environment of herbology and the possibility of collaborative learning of herbology with another discipline. This study will present information that can be used to find the direction of further researches and can be applied to the education of herbology. Methods : An online questionnaire was developed with and sent through SurveyMonkey to 242 korean medicine college students in Korea. The questionnaire comprised questions pertaining to herbology education in Korean Medicine universities and international healthcare cooperation education. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated, and Spearman's correlation coefficients for two types of questions were evaluated. Results : Among the questions about herbology education, those regarding the necessity of learning clinical cases using herbal medicines for preventing infectious diseases were scored the highest. Students were mostly interested in the effects and indications of herbal drugs. Even students answered they did not learn about official development assistance, 79.85% students answered that they were interested in careers related with the international cooperation or willing to participate in the international cooperation. Three types of correlations showed a statistically significant correlation. Conclusions : This study suggests that herbology education about its effects and indications needs further improvement for competency-based education. Furthermore, herbology can play a critical role in competency-based education for Korean medicine students if a well-designed career program is developed for them.

The purpose of our survey study was to investigate the status on perception and actual state toward science educational evaluation and objectives of middle school science teachers in Pusan. The perception and actual state were surveyed by the questionaire which was developed by Jong-Ok Woo et. al. We developed two kinds of questionaire. One is designed to use Likert type scale and is composed of two main category(SE; Science educational evaluation, SO; Science educational objectives) which contains 21 question items, and the other has 16 question items From 313 science teacger's responses of 75 middle schools in pusan, the tendency. of total(SE+SO) and each sub category, and the contrast with their background and actual state were analized by SPSS program of KAIST. Some results of our survey study can be summarized as follows; 1. Total tendency of science educational evaluation(SE) and objectives(SO) of middle school science teachers in pusan shows a positive and right tendency of conception in general(m-85.8/100). 2. Tendency of SE(m-87.8/100) are slightly higher than SO(m-81.7/100). At the level of 5% significance, there are correlated but shows low correlation (r=0.12(4). 3. In each correlation toward total tendency(SE+SO), SE is highly correlated(r-0.8486) but SO is moderately correlated(r=0.6297) at the level of 0.1% significance. 4. Tendencies of 5sub category (PE, PC, PD, PO, PB) shows considerably right tendencies (m=$73.4/100{\sim}92.7/100$), there are moderately correlated foward total tendency(SE+SO) at the level of 0.1% significance (r=$0.49{\sim}0.60$). 5. At the level of 5%significance, total means are no differences which their background(Sex, Final alma mate, Major, Difference of training), but there is differences to teaching career at the level of 5% significance.

The purpose of this study is to determine the clinical nurses' knowledge of DM and diabetes patient education aptitude so as to provide a basis for clinical nurse training with respect to diabetes patient education program. The data has been collected through the questionnaires of 42 items from the Knowledge on DM and each 16 item from the Importance on the elements of diabetes patient and the Recognition for clinical nurses, respectfully. 166 nurses from a general hospital who had participated in clinical nurse training in Sep. 28 and Oct. 4, 2001 were subject to respond the questionnaires. Analysis has been done by using statistical method such as percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson correlation coefficients. The findings are as follows: 1. Clinical nurses' knowledge levels of diabetes 1) The average level of nurses' knowledge about diabetes is 29.37 (right answer- finding rate: 70%), which is intermediate. 2) Amongst the nurses classified by their knowledge levels about diabetes, the group with less than one year career and that with more than 5 year careers are found to have higher knowledge levels. The item with the highest right answer-finding rate was 'Please find the wrong out of the following examples about foot care'. Meanwhile, the item with highest incorrect answer-finding rate was 'what does blood sugar control aims for amongst gestational diabetes?'. 2. Clinical nurses' importance and perception levels of educational training about diabetes 1) There were no differences amongst nurses' importance level about diabetes. 2) Nurses usually had high scores(4.30) in terms of the items related to the importances about educational training. 3) There were quite high recognitions of general characteristics and symptoms about diabetes, amongst the nurse cohorts working more than one year and less than 5 years, and over 5 years, the group belonging to the internal department, that having the previous experiences of dealing with diabetes, and that having their diabetic relatives and other close people. Meanwhile, strangely, the group who identified themselves as 'not good at treating diabetes' had a high recognition level of educational training about diabetes. 3. Relationship between knowledge levels and importance & perception levels of diabetes 1) The higher knowledge about diabetes nurses had, the more importance they recognized. 2) It is found that there was no relationship between knowledge and perception of diabetes. 3) The more importance about diabetes nurses had, the higher perception they obtained. In conclusion, there is an urgent need for systematic educational programs about diabetes including technical aspects, in order to upgrade and improve nurses knowledge levels. In addition, re-educational training should be provided at regular intervals. Further, we believe the nurses with high knowledge about diabetes and interests in the provision of educations for patients can be far more confident, and in return, patients can have better self-management about diabetes obtained through educations. Based on the above-mentioned findings, we would like to make the suggestion: re-evaluation about nurses' knowledge and cognition levels should be carried out after job training programs about diabetes.
The number of students choosing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) related careers are declining. Thus it became a worldwide challenge in the $21^{st}$ century. As public images of the engineers are unfavorable and inaccurate, misconceptions and stereotypes about engineers are prevailing. The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school students' perceived mental and pictorial images of engineers and the nature of engineering work. This study involved 512 fifth and sixth grade students (Boys: 287 and Girls: 225) from four elementary schools at one of metropolitans in South Korea. The Draw An Engineer-Korean version (DAE-K) was developed based on Draw an Engineer (DAE) and Draw a Scientist (DAS), and Song and Kim (1999)'s instruments. A pilot-tested was conducted with 33 elementary students prior to the main study. The students were asked to answer how they think the engineers would be, to draw an engineer at work, and to write the engineer's personal information and the job description. Engineers were perceived as a person fixing, building, manufacturing, working outdoors in labors' clothes such as a robe. Engineers were shown with building tools, robots, airplanes, machines, conveyor belt, etc. Moreover, compared to the scientists, engineers were perceived as less intelligent, less imaginative, and less accurate. The results of this study revealed that elementary school students had a lack of accurate images of engineers. Students' current perceived images of engineers could help educators find the baselines for the future engineering education in elementary schools. In addition, the findings of this study could also contribute to the development of engineering education in terms of gender issues, STEM career choice, and even cultural diversity.
The purpose of this study is to explore the perception to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and General Higher Education (GHE) of students, teachers and TVET institutes' directors in Cambodia. As a research method, the study conducted the focus group discussions at Regional Technical Centers in the five representative regions from May to June in 2019. The result was TVET graduates have better chance with linkage in the labour market than GHE graduates through skill-focused curriculum and public private partnership between institutions and enterprises in Cambodia. The study recommend to implement a national strategy to improve the status and awareness of technical skills related jobs and the career pathways for the technical skill level courses.
