  • In this paper, the states and the parameters in the dynamic system are simultaneously estimated by applying the UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter), which is widely used for estimating the state of non-linear systems. Estimating the parameter is very important in various fields, such as system control, modeling, analysis of performance, and prediction. Most of the dynamic systems which are dealt with in engineering have non-linearity as well as some noise. Therefore, the parameter estimation is difficult. This paper estimates the states and the parameters applying to the UKF, which is a non-linear filter and has strong noise. The augmented equation is used by including the addition of the parameter factors to the original state equation of the system. Moreover, it is simulated by applying to a 2-DOF(Degree of Freedom) dynamic system composed of the pendulum and the slide. The measurement noise of the dynamic equation is assumed to be a Gaussian distribution. As the simulation results show, the proposed parameter estimation performs better than the LSM(Least Square Method). Furthermore, the estimation errors and convergence time are within three percent and 0.1 second, respectively. Consequentially, the UKF is able to estimate the system states and the parameters for the system, despite having measurement data with noise.

  • In general, there are needed lots of time and experiments for determination of optimum asphalt content and mix design. The experimental results are highly depended on the skill of testers. Bailey suggested the proper aggregate gradation of hot mix asphalt are a function of special size and passing percent of the specified aggregate to reduce the test errors. In this paper, the asphalt mix designs of 19mm dense graded mix and PA-20mm for FHWA were carried out, using Bailey's method. The use of Bailey method can cut down the testing times to get the proper aggregate gradation for asphalt mix design. In case of 19mm dense graded asphalt mixture, the measured values of CA, $FA_c$, $FA_f$ are 0.724, 0.440, and 0.455, which are within the suggested values by Bailey. Also, in case of PA-20 graded asphalt mixture, the measured values of CA, $FA_c$, $FA_f$ are 0.646, 0.476, and 0.450, respectively.

  • Two dimensional non-parametric model using daily mean temperature and daylength as predictor variables was established and daily developmental rates (DVR) for the period of seedling emergence to heading were estimated for 26 rice cultivars by using data from field direct seeding dates and short-day treatments experiment carried out at experimental farm of Seoul National University in 1990. Three existing parametric models were tested for the comparision of predictability with non-parametric model. The non-parametric model was found to be superior to parametric models in predicting heading date. The developmetal indice(DVI) at heading date, cummulative DVR's from seedling emergence showed 0.5 to 2.2 percent of coefficient of variations. The non-parametric model revealed errors of 0 to three days in 11 varieties when applied to data independent of those used in estimating DVR.

  • This study was conducted to pursue the normalization of frequency distribution by making approach the coefficient of skewness to nearly zero tbrough SMEMAX transformation and to get probable minimum flows can be acquired by means of transforrnation equation which has been derivated by SMEMAX method to the annual minimum flow series of five watersheds along Geum river basin. The results obtained through SMEMAX method were compared with probable minimum flows according to return periods by Type III extremal distribution which has been determined as the best fitted one among probablility distributions for the analysis of minimum flow. All the results obtained through this study are summarized as follows. 1.SMEMAX transformation based on median value was proved to be the best method when the coefficient of skewness has less reliability because of the short duration for the observation and were not affected by accidental outliers. 2.SMEMAX transformation has found to be the best one for the coefficient of skewness to be made nearly zero in comparison with log and cubic root transformation. 3.Probable minimum flows according to the return periods were derivated by transformation equations obtained through theoretical analysis of SMEM AX transformation. 4.In general, probable minimum flows by SMEMAX method were appeared as higher values in the range of five and twenty years and as lower ones in the range of below than five and more than fifty years in return periods respectively, in comparison with the results of type III extremal distribution. 5.Relative errors in the probable minimum flows of SMEMAX method to the results of type III extremal distribution were shown to be within ten percent except those of one hundred years in return periods. 6.SMEMAX method was also confirmed to be useful for the analysis of minimum flow frequency as well as flood frequency analysis.

  • Grouting is an operation often carried out to consolidate and seal the rock mass in dam sites and tunnels. One of the important parameters in this operation is grouting pressure. In this paper, analytical models used to estimate pressure are investigated. To validate these models, grouting data obtained from Seymareh and Aghbolagh dams were used. Calculations showed that P-3 model from Groundy and P-25 model obtained from the results of grouting in Iran yield the most accurate predictions of the pressure and measurement errors compared to the real values in P-25 model in this dams are 12 and 14.33 Percent and in p-3 model are 12.25 and 16.66 respectively. Also, SPSS software was applied to define the optimum relation for pressure estimation. The results showed a high correlation between the pressure with the depth of the section, the amount of water take, rock quality degree and grout volume, so that the square of the multiple correlation coefficient among the parameters in this dams were 0.932 and 0.864, respectively. This indicates that regression results can be used to predict the amount of pressure. Eventually, the relationship between the parameters was obtained with the correlation coefficient equal to 0.916 based on the data from both dams generally and shows that there is a desirable correlation between the parameters. The outputs of the program led to the multiple linear regression equation of P=0.403 Depth+0.013 RQD+0.011 LU-0.109 V+0.31 that can be used in estimating the pressure.

  • This study was attempted to derivate empirical formulas for the runoff: ratio during ilood. season at three watersheds of Dan Yang, Chung Ju, and Yeo Ju are located at upper, middle, and lower portion of Nam Han river basin, respectively. Obtained formulas for flood runoff ratio can be applied as an element for the estimation, peak discharge for the design of various hydraulics structures which can be concidented with meteorological and topographical condition. The obtained through this study were analyzed as follows. 1.It was found that the magnitude of runoff ratio depends on the amount of rainfall for all studying basins. 2.Empirical formulas 'for the runoff' ratio were derivated as 1- 2,707 Rt0.345, 1-1.691 Rt0.242 and 1-1.807 Rt0.227 at Dan Yang, Chung Ju and Yeo Ju watershed, respectively. 3.The magnitude of runoff ratio was appeared in the order of Dan Yang, Chung Ju, and Yeo Ju are located at upper, middle and lower portion of Nam Han rivet basin, respectively. 4.It was assumed that in general the more it rains, the lesser becomes the ratio of loss rainfall. Especially, the ratio of loss rainfall for Dan Yang, upper portion of river basin was shown as the lowest among three watersheds. Besides, the magnitude of that was appeared in the order of Chung Ju and Yeo Ju watershed located at middle, and lower part of river basin, respectively. 5.Relative and standard errors of runoff ratio calculated by empirical formulas were shown to be within ten percent to the observed runoff ratio in all watersheds. 6.It is urgently essential that the effect of antecedent rainfall have an influence on the next coming flood should be studied in near future.

  • Relationship between the daily mortality and total suspended particulate(TSP) for the period of 1996-1997 was examined in Seoul, Korea. Generalized additive model was adapted for the analysis to allow the seasonality and long-term time effect in the air pollution and the nonlinear relationships with weather variables such as air temperature and relative humidity. An increase of 100 Ji9/m') TSP corresponds to 0.8-5.2 percent increase of the daily mortality Unidirectional (prospective and retrospective) case-crossover design results in large bias of the estimates. Bidirectional method gives relatively unbiased estimates but the standard errors are larger Case-crossover design should be used with caution in the situation where the data have seasonal trends like air pollution study.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to analyze the equality between key words used in the Journal of Korean Dental Society of Anesthesiology and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Methods: A total of 666 English key words in 187 papers (average 3.5 words in a paper) from 2001 to 2014 were eligible for this study. We classified them according to matched, and non-matched terms. After descriptive analysis, we assayed patterns of errors in using MeSH, and reviewed frequently used non-MeSH terms. Results: Fifty nine point six percent (59.6%) of total key words were completely coincident with MeSH terms, 40.39% were not MeSH terms. Conclusions: The results show that the coincidence rate of key words with MeSH terms was at a moderate level. However, there is a need for us to understand MeSH more specifically and accurately. Use of proper key words aligned with the international standards such as MeSH is important to be properly cited. The authors should pay attention and be educated on correct use of MeSH as key words.

  • Chrysanthemum is one of the most important floral crop in Korea produced about 7 billion dollars (1 billion for pot and 6 billion for cutting) in 2013. However, it is difficult to breed and to do genetic study because 1) it is highly self-incompatible, 2) it is outcrossing crop having heterozygotes, and 3) commercial cultvars are hexaploid (2n = 6x = 54). Although low-density genetic map and QTL study were reported, it is not enough to apply for the marker assisted selection and other genetic studies. Therefore, we are trying to make high-density genetic mapping using GBS with about 100 $F_1s$ of C. boreale that is oHohhfd diploid (2n = 2x = 18, about 2.8Gb) instead of commercial culitvars. Since Chrysanthemum is outcrossing, two-way pseudo-testcross model would be used to construct genetic map. Also, genotype-by-sequencing (GBS) would be utilized to generate sufficient number of markers and to maximize genomic representation in a cost effective manner. Those completed sequences would be analyzed with TASSEL-GBS pipeline. In order to reduce sequence error, only first 64 sequences, which have almost zero percent error, would be incorporated in the pipeline for the analysis. In addition, to reduce errors that is common in heterozygotes crops caused by low coverage, two rare cutters (NsiI and MseI) were used to increase sequence depth. Maskov algorithm would also used to deal with missing data. Further, sparsely placed markers on the physical map would be used as anchors to overcome problems caused by low coverage. For this purpose, were generated from transcriptome of Chrysanthemum using MISA program. Among those, 10 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, which are evenly distributed along each chromosome and polymorphic between two parents, would be selected.

  • The empirical area-reduction method by W.M. Borland and C.R. Miller and its revised procedure by W.T. Moody were made of fitting the area and storage curves to the Van't Hul distributions. It should be noted that the reservoir is classified into one of the four standard types on the basis of the topographical feature of the reservoir in application of the method. In other words, this method did not take into account several considerafble factors affecting the mode of sediment deposition, but only the shape of the reservoir as a governign factor. This is why the method occasionally creates ambiguity in classification and accordingly leads to unexpected mode of deposition. This paper describes a generating an formula to decide the standard classification of four types Van's Hul distributions, taking into consideration quantitatively sediment-loss percent and capacity-inflow ratio as well as the shape of the reservoirs by multiple regression analysis using the least square method to get a better fit to the design curves. The result is expressed as $Y=-1.95+55.8X_1+0.14X_2+0.12X_3$ in which the the values of Y locate the standard type I through type IV in the range from ten to forty with the interval of ten. The regression analysis was correlated well with the standard errors of estimate of around two except for the case of the type IV. This formula does not give big difference from the Borland's work in general sityation, but it demonstrates acceptable results, giving somewhat precise replys for the specific reservoirs. Its application to the Soyang Lake, one of the largest reservoirs in the country, defined clearly the type II, while the original method located it in the boundary of the type II and type III.
