The purpose of this study win to examine the relation between level of income, perceived parental behaviors, and ego-identity of school-aged children. The subjects were 356 children in the 6th grade selected from six elementary schools in Seoul and Keunggi-Do. The subjects were asked to complete the questionnaire on ego-identity and perceived parental behaviors. The data was analyzed by Mean, SD, Cronbach's α, Pearson's correlation and Multiple Regression. The major findings were as follows : 1. The level of income(antecedent variable) was significantly related with perceived parental behavior(mediator) and ego-identity of school-aged children(dependent variable). 2. The effects of level of income on ego-identity of school-aged children became lower after control of the effects of perceived parental behaviors. In other words, perceived parental behaviors partially mediated the effects of level of income on ego-identity of school-aged children.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived parental behavior and children’s coping behaviors with parent-related problems on parent-related stress. The subjects were 234 children composed of 115 3rd-graders and 119 6th-graders elected from three elementary schools in Seoul(121 males and 113 females). Statistical techniques were means, Percentages, Scheffe test, ANOVA and Multiple Regressions. The major findings of this study were as follows : 1) There was a significant difference in parent-related stress with respect to perceived parental behavior and coping behaviors of childrens such as passive, avoidant, and aggressive coping. Perceived parental behavior and aggressive coping behavior showed significant interaction effects. When children perceived parental behavior as being less suppotive and children more aggressively coped with parent-related problems, parent-rotated stress increased in level. 2) Among perceived parental behavior and pasive, avoid, aggressive coping behavior, perceived parental behavior and passive coping behavior were significant predictors of parent-related stress. Perceived parental behavior was much more predictor of parent-related stress than the passive coping behavior.
The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between adolescent's behavioral inhibition and social anxiety focused on the moderating effects of perceived parental rearing behaviors. Subjects were 749 7th through 9th grade students attending schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Major findings were that (1) boys' and girls' behavioral inhibition was an important factor predicting social anxiety; and (2) perceived parental rearing behaviors played the role of moderating variables on the influence of behavioral inhibition of boys' and girls' social anxiety. In the boys' group, perceived intrusion had a moderating effect on the relationships between behavioral inhibition and social anxiety; in the girls' group, perceived warmth and perceived granting of autonomy acted as moderating variables on social anxiety.
The purpose of this research is to study differences in perceived parental neglectful behaviors between siblings from a child's perspective. The data were collected using the Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scales (MNBS) questionnaire from 158 sibling pairs in grades 4, 5, and 6 who attended the same elementary schools. Younger sibling experienced emotional neglect by their parents significantly more than older siblings. Same gender sibling pairs and older brotheryounger sister pairs perceived their parental neglectful behaviors in a similar manner. However older sister-younger brother pairs showed that the younger brother perceived significantly more neglect than his older sister. This study clearly illustrated that siblings' perceptions of their parents' neglectful behaviors exists differently within a family contrary to previous studies which have shown that siblings' perception of parental neglectful behaviors are similar. The results suggest that the younger brother in mixed-gender sibling pairs are far more likely to experience neglect than any other sibling. Thus, even though siblings can be at equal risk in experiencing parental neglect, the effects can vary depending on the birth order.
Data were collected from 514 elementary school students from 1st to 6th grade with questionnaires on Parental Behavior, Bullying, and Peer-Victimization. Sixth graders reported the lowest perception of warmth-acceptance, and 1st graders reported the highest perception of rejection-restriction by fathers. Males perceived more parental rejection-restriction. Children perceived more warmth-acceptance from mothers, and they perceived more permissiveness-nonintervention from fathers. Parenting behaviors were significantly related to bullying and victimization. The Bullying/Victimization group reported the lowest parental warmth-acceptance. Both Victimization and Bullying/Victimization groups showed higher parental rejection-restriction than other groups. The Victimization group showed highest paternal permissiveness-nonintervention. Victimization and Bullying/Victimization groups reported higher maternal permissiveness-nonintervention than other groups.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate structural associates among high school students' perceived parental autonomy support, growth mindset, grit and avoidant help-seeking behaviors. There were 419 high school students participated for this study, and their perceived parental autonomy support, growth mindset, girt and avoidant help-seeking behaviors were collected through on-line survey. Descriptive analyses, Pearson correlation analyses, Structural equation modeling and Boostrapping analyses were performed to explore those relations through SPSS 25.0 and Mplus 8.2. First of all, as the result, it was found that the perceived parental autonomy support had positive effects on growth mindset and grit. Second, the growth mindset worked as a negative mediator for the association between perceived parental autonomy support and avoidant help-seeking behaviors. The results suggested that we should consider not only relations with parents but also individual growth mindset to increase high school students' self-regulated learning. Also, theoretical and practical implications were discussed.
Objectives: The study examined the mediated role of family functioning in the relation between fathers' and mothers' depression and drinking behaviors, and children's internalizing/externalizing problems and peer-play behavior. Methods: The study utilized data from the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC), namely Wave 5 data(N=1,703) for parental depression and drinking behavior, Wave 6 data(N=1,662) for family functioning, and Wave 7 data(N=1,620) for children's internalizing/externalizing problems and peer-play behavior. Results: Mothers' perceived family functioning mediated the relation between parental depression and boys' internalizing/externalizing problems. Second, fathers' perceived family functioning mediated the relation between parental depression and children's peer-play behavior. Third, only when both parents engaged in an above-average level of drinking behavior, did father perceive that their family functioning was low. Conclusions: This study showed the mediated effect of family functioning in the influence of parental depression and drinking behavior on children's developmental outcomes. The study ditermined that fathers and mothers played different roles in children's development, and found different mechanisms related to parental depression and their drinking behavior.

The present investigation of the relations among economic hardship, parental child-rearing attitudes and adjustment in adolescence was carried out with 528 middle school children and their mothers in Kyung-gi province. Questionnaires for mothers were on economic stress, and children's questionnaires were on perceived parental attitudes as well as their own adjustment behaviors, such as aggression, depression, and negative self-concept. Adolescent boys perceived paternal child-rearing attitudes more rejecting and inconsistent when the family experienced income loss. Paternal nurturing behaviors perceived by children were also reduced under poor paternal working conditions. Change in family life style due to economic hardship resulted in higher adolescent depression.
This study examined the relationship among parenting behaviors, children's perfectionism and achievement motivation, using a sample of 338 fifth and sixth graders. The participants completed questionnaires on parenting behaviors and their perfectionism and achievement motivation. Data were analyzed by factor analyses and multiple regression analysis. Both boys and girls had higher achievement motivation when they perceived higher parental levels of acceptance, and girls showed higher achievement motivation when they perceived higher maternal control/over-expectation. Boys who exhibited self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism and girls who exhibited self-oriented perfectionism showed higher achievement motivation. Boys had higher self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism when perceiving higher parental acceptance and control/over-expectation. Girls showed higher self-oriented perfectionism when perceiving higher parental acceptance and control/over-expectation, and they showed higher socially prescribed perfectionism when perceiving higher paternal control/over-expectation and maternal acceptance and control/over-expectation. It was revealed that both boys' and girls' perfectionism tended to play mediating roles between parenting behaviors and achievement motivation.
