  • This study analyzed subjectivity of underachievers on Peer Assisted Learning(PAS) in culinary skills related subject for providing better educational environment through consideration of educational efficiency of particular teaching method. Q Methodology was employed for analysing of responses of a small group of the students. The research found that three types of distinctive structures of responses of the students' subjectivity. The first one was Increase learning effectiveness type(Type1, N=8), the second one was Development of lesson materials for passive students(Type2, N=8), and the last one was Practical self-directed learning needs development(Type3, N=6). From the result, PAS was an effective teaching method for underachievers for encouraging participation of study program, helping to rise self-confidence in subject's tasks, and awareness of self directed learning and additional study on subjects matters. The study, however, found that students could consider themselves as an interruption to other students' study progress, and could feel other students' awareness as a burden. At last, forming a class by deeper consideration on the learning levels of each students and providing additional educational contents for encouraging self directed learning are necessary for the better efficiency for the future.

  • Many works have attempted to solve the scalability, the availability, and the low-latency problems of peer-to-peer (P2P) live video streaming; yet, the problems still remain. While tree-based systems are vulnerable to churn, the mesh-based systems suffer from high delay and overhead. The DHT-aided chunk-driven overlay (DCO) [1] tried to tackle these problems by using the distributed hash table (DHT), which structures into a mesh-based overlay to efficiently share the video segment. However, DCO fully depends on the capacity of the users' device which is small and unstable, i.e., the users' device may leave and join the network anytime, and the video server's bandwidth can be insufficient when the number of users joining the network suddenly increases. Therefore, cloud assist is introduced to overcome those problems. Cloud assist can be used to enhance the availability, the low-latency, and the scalability of the system. In this paper, the DHT is used to maintain the location of the streaming segments in a distributed manner, and the cloud server is used to assist other peers when the bandwidth which required for sharing the video segment is insufficient. The simulation results show that by using the threshold and cloud assist, the availability and the low-latency of the video segments, and the scalability of the network are greatly improved.

  • Korean society expects to be changing into aged society more rapidly than any other countries due to low birthrate and increase in life expectancy. Increasing number of elderly and social problems of aging society have provoked increase in research on elderly environment. Elderly housing facilities and living conditions are significantly related to the quality of life for older persons. The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze empirical studies on elderly physical environments in Korea, find out research streaming and understand social backgrounds and to suggest future research problems. For this study, contents analysis was conducted. Articles of four academic peer reviewed journals published from 1986 to 2005 were units of analysis. Using a keyword through library database systems, the articles were systematically selected. As results, trends of research according to 4 periods were defined. Among them as major trends, expansion of the quantity, expansion to interior design features for older persons, more facility types for dependent elderly(assisted living facilities, facilities for elderly with dementia, long term care facilities) have appeared. This result showed some directions and implications on elderly facility planning and development.

  • Large language models (LLMs) are rapidly transforming medical writing and publishing. This review article focuses on experimental evidence to provide a comprehensive overview of the current applications, challenges, and future implications of LLMs in various stages of academic research and publishing process. Global surveys reveal a high prevalence of LLM usage in scientific writing, with both potential benefits and challenges associated with its adoption. LLMs have been successfully applied in literature search, research design, writing assistance, quality assessment, citation generation, and data analysis. LLMs have also been used in peer review and publication processes, including manuscript screening, generating review comments, and identifying potential biases. To ensure the integrity and quality of scholarly work in the era of LLM-assisted research, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) use is crucial. Researchers should prioritize verifying the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, maintain transparency in the use of LLMs, and develop collaborative human-AI workflows. Reviewers should focus on higher-order reviewing skills and be aware of the potential use of LLMs in manuscripts. Editorial offices should develop clear policies and guidelines on AI use and foster open dialogue within the academic community. Future directions include addressing the limitations and biases of current LLMs, exploring innovative applications, and continuously updating policies and practices in response to technological advancements. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders are necessary to harness the transformative potential of LLMs while maintaining the integrity of medical writing and publishing.

  • Recently the ratio of the Internet traffic generated by video streaming applications including video-on-demand (VOD) is getting higher and higher, while P2P-based naive content distribution has been the main source of the Internet traffic in the past. As a result, the paradigm of cooperatively distributed systems (e.g., P2P) is changing to support streaming applications. Most P2P assisted approaches for video streaming today are based on Bit Torrent thanks to its simplicity of implementation and easy adaptability. They, however, have immanent vulnerability to free-riding inherited from Bit Torrent, which inevitably hurts their performance under limited system resources with free-riding. This paper studies the weakness to free-riding of existing Bit Torrent-based video streaming applications and investigates the adaptability of T-Chain (which was originally designed to prevent free-riding in cooperatively distributed systems) to video streaming applications. Our experiment results show that the video streaming approach based on T-Chain outperforms most existing Bit Torrent-based ones by 60% on average under limited system resources with free-riding.
