  • The article identifies the problem of monitoring the quality of higher education in three main areas, which are comparative pedagogical systems of education. The first direction is determined by dissertation works, the second - monographs and textbooks, and the third reveals scientific periodicals. According to its internal structure, monitoring the quality of education combines important management components identified in the article (analysis, evaluation and forecasting of processes in education; a set of methods for tracking processes in education; collecting and processing information to prepare recommendations for research processes and make necessary adjustments). Depending on the objectives, three areas of monitoring are identified: informational (involves the accumulation, structuring and dissemination of information), basic (aimed at identifying new problems and threats before they are realized at the management level), problematic (clarification of patterns, processes, hazards, those problems that are known and significant from the point of view of management). According to its internal structure, monitoring the quality of education combines the following important management components: analysis, evaluation and forecasting of processes in education; a set of techniques for tracking processes in education; collection and processing of information in order to prepare recommendations for the development of the studied processes and make the necessary adjustments. One of the priorities of the higher education modernization program during the COVID-19 pandemic is distance learning, which is possible due to the existence of information and educational technologies and communication systems, especially for effective education and its monitoring in higher education. The conditions under which the effectiveness of pedagogical support of monitoring activities in the process of distance learning is achieved are highlighted. According to the results of the survey, the problems faced by higher education seekers are revealed. A survey of students was conducted, which had a certain level of subjectivity in personal assessments, but the sample was quite representative.

  • The purpose of this paper is to derive the ratios of trigonometric special angles from Euclid's by constructing regular pentagon and decagon. The intention of this paper is started from recognizing that teaching of the special angles in secondary math classroom excessively depends on algebraic approaches rather geometric approaches which are the origin of the trigonometric ratios. In this paper the method of constructing regular pentagon and decagon is reviewed and the geometric relationship between this construction and trigonometric special angles is derived. Through such geometric approach the meaning of trigonometric special angles is analyzed from a geometric perspective and pedagogical ideas of teaching these trigonometric ratios is suggested using history of mathematics.

  • This paper details case study vignettes that focus on enhancing the teaching and learning of geometry and measurement in the elementary grades with attention to pedagogical practices for teaching through problem solving with rigor and centering equitable teaching practices. Rigor is a matter of equity and opportunity (Dana Center, 2019). Rigor matters for each and every student and yet research indicates historically disadvantaged and underserved groups have more of an opportunity gap when it comes to rigorous mathematics instruction (NCTM, 2020). Along with providing a conceptual framework that focuses on the importance of equitable instruction, our study unpacks ways teachers can leverage their deep understanding of geometry and measurement learning trajectories to amplify the mathematics through rigorous problems using multiple approaches including learning by doing, challenged-based and mathematical modeling instruction. Through these vignettes, we provide examples of tasks taught through rigorous problem solving approaches that support conceptual teaching and learning of geometry and measurement. Specifically, each of the three vignettes presented includes a task that was implemented in an elementary classroom and a vertically articulated task that engaged teachers in a professional learning workshop. By beginning with elementary tasks to more sophisticated concepts in higher grades, we demonstrate how vertically articulating a deeper understanding of the learning trajectory in geometric thinking can add to the rigor of the mathematics.

  • In this study, we investigate the latus rectum, one of the geometric measures of the conics, as one of the ways in which learners harmonize the geometric and algebraic approaches to conics from a pedagogical point of view. We also introduce the conical curve of Biot as presented in 'The Discourse on the Latus Rectum in conics(2013)' by Takeshi Sugimoto and reinterpret it for visualization and use as teaching material. Therefore, we expect that the importance of mathematical concepts will be recognized in conics and students can experience geometry learning that is explored in the school field and have a positive effect in developing the power to apply even in the context of applied problems.

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has been at the forefront of K-12 curricula in the technology-rich 21st century, with emphasis on how these fields reinforce each other in preparing students for a dynamic future. However, there is a need for greater attention to STEM education research in the mathematics education community, in particular to pedagogical approaches that facilitate integrating the mathematics component of STEM education. Toward this end, the authors report the outcomes of a Project-based Learning (PBL) unit in which upper elementary students integrated STEM elements by researching, crafting, testing, and evaluating kites they created by applying scientific knowledge of aerodynamics and mathematical knowledge of polygons, surface area, graphs, and data analysis. This unit, which the authors developed, implemented, and assessed, demonstrates how STEM subjects and in particular mathematics can be effectively integrated in upper elementary school classrooms through PBL.

  • In this research study, the artificial neural networks approach is used to estimate the ultimate shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams with transverse reinforcement. More specifically, surrogate approaches, such as artificial neural network models, have been examined for predicting the shear capacity of concrete beams, based on experimental test results available in the pertinent literature. The comparison of the predicted values with the corresponding experimental ones, as well as with available formulas from previous research studies or code provisions highlight the ability of artificial neural networks to evaluate the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams in a trustworthy and effective manner. Furthermore, for the first time, the (quantitative) values of weights for the proposed neural network model, are provided, so that the proposed model can be readily implemented in a spreadsheet and accessible to everyone interested in the procedure of simulation.

  • This study examined the pedagogical approaches on the development of creativity in fashion design education for the 21 st century. In this paper, the concept of the creativity was analyzed with the purpose of devising detailed educational methods by investigating into cognitive and pedagogical natures of the constituents of creativity. One of the most crucial aspects of the creativity is problem solving capability and it was reviewed how creative problem solving capability is applied to the areas of arts and designs. This study particularly explored the specific roles intuition plays in the development of creativity. Insights are very important in enhancing and maintaining creativity and it was shown that intuition can stimulate and reinforce the insights. Also it was suggested was that the development stages of intuition are consistent with the development sequences of creativity in arts and designs. Recommendations for further studies were included.

  • In the spring, 2020, the pandemic caused quarantine and all educational institutions switched to distance learning, which led to significant changes in the field of education around the world. It has become necessary to build its capacity to provide distance learning to protect education and create opportunities for more individualized approaches to teaching and learning not only during future pandemics but also during other possible issues, such as natural disasters, when a developed flexible curricula could be taught face-to-face or online. The article presents an analysis of distance education in the world during a pandemic, analyzes significant changes, and implements measures in the field of education in Ukraine and around the world. The role of public and international organizations in the implementation of quarantine in the conditions of COVID-19, which partially took over the functions of state and local authorities, is emphasized. The closure of schools under COVID-19 has led to a de facto deterioration in learning outcomes, so we have analyzed the effects of distance learning and digital inequality in the world. It is shown how the COVID-19 pandemic affected access to public services in Ukraine.
