This study focused on the characteristics of change soil water with respect to soil thickness and soil mixture ratio, in order to effectively carry out an afforestation system for a roof with a low level of management and a light weight. Soil hardness tended to increase as sand particle was increase regardless soil thickness and soil porosity had more higher artificial soil than natural soil mixture. In case of soil pH, natural soil mixture had between 6.7 and 7.4, and artificial soil mixture had 6.0~6.8. Organic matter, electrical conductance and exchangeable content were highest in $L_{10}$, which it had the highest leafmold ratio. Soil moisture tension(kPa) in 15cm soil thickness was observed natural soil mixture had a considerable change but artificial soil mixture had a gradual change when non-rainfall kept on. In the experimental $L_{10}$, $S_{10}$, $S_7L_3$ and $S_5L_5$ object, the amount of moisture tended to rapidly decrease. However, in the experimental $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$ and $P_4P_4L_2$ objects, which contained pearlite and peat moss, the amount of moisture tended to gradually decrease. As a result, the use of a artificial soil mixture soil seems to be required for the afforestation of a roof for a low level of management.

In this study, a corrosion failure analysis of a heat transport pipe was conducted, as the result of a pinhole leak. Interestingly, the corrosion damage occurred externally in the pipeline, resulting in severe thickness reduction near the seam line. Also, while a stable magnetite protective film formed on the inner surface, the manganese oxide formation occurred only on the outer surface. The interior and exterior of the pipe were composed of ferrite and pearlite. The large manganese sulfide and alumina inclusions were found near the seam line. In addition, the manganese sulfide inclusions resulted in grooving corrosion, which progressed in the seam line leading to the reduction in the thickness, followed by the exposure of the alumina in the matrix to the outer surface. To note, the corrosion was accelerated by pits generated from the boundaries separating the inclusions from the matrix, which resulted in pinhole leaks and water loss.

The effect of alloying mode and porosity on the axial tension-tension fatigue behavior of a P/M steel of nominal composition Fe-4w/o Ni-1.5w/o Cu-O.5w/o Mo-O.5w/o C has been evaluated. Alloying modes utilized were elemental powder mixing, partial alloying(distaloy) and prealloying by water atomization; in each case the carbon was introduced as graphite prior to sintering. Powder compacts were sintered($1120{\circ}C$/30 min.) in 7Sv/o $H_2$/25v/o $N_2$ to densities in the range 6.77-7.2 g/$cm^3$. The dependence of fatigue limit response on alloying mode and porosity was interpreted in terms of the constituent phases and the pore and fracture morphologies associated with the three alloying modes. For the same nominal composition, the three alloying modes resulted in different sintered microstructures. In the elemental mix alloy and the distaloy, the major constituent was coarse and fine pearlite, with regions of Ni-rich ferrite, Ni-rich martensite and Ni-rich areas. In contrast, the prealloy consisted primarily of martensite by with some Ni-rich areas. From an examination of the fracture surfaces following fatigue testing it was concluded that essentially all of the fracture surfaces exhibited dimpled rupture, characteristic of tensile overload. Thus, the extent of growth of any fatigue cracks prior to overload was small. The stress amplitude for the three alloying modes at 2x$l0^6$ was used for the comparison of fatigue strengths. For load cycles <3x$l0^5$, the prealloy exhibited optimum fatigue response followed by the distaloy and elemental mix alloy, respectively. At load cycles >2x$l0^6$, similar fatigue limits were exhibited by the three alloys. It was concluded that fatigue cracks propagate primarily through pores, rather than through the constituent phases of the microstructure. A decrease in pore SIze improved the S-N behavior of the sintered steel.
Although heat treatment is a process of great technological importance in order to obtain desired mechanical properties such as hardness, the process was required a tedious and expensive experimentation to specify the process parameters. Consequently, the availability of reliable and efficient numerical simulation program would enable easy specification of process parameters to achieve desired microstructure and mechanical properties without defects like crack and distortion. In present work, the developed numerical simulation program could predict distributions of microstructure and thermal stress in steels under different cooling conditions. The computer program is based on the finite difference method for temperature analysis and microstructural changes and the finite element method for thermal stress analysis. Multi-phase decomposition model was used for description of diffusional austenite decompositions in low alloy steels during cooling after austenitization. The model predicts the progress of ferrite, pearlite, and bainite transformations simultaneously during quenching and estimates the amount of martensite also by using Koistinen and Marburger equation. To verify the developed program, the calculated results are compared with experimental ones of casting product. Based on these results, newly designed heat treatment process is proposed and it was proved to be effective for industry.
This study investigated the microstructure and wear properties of extruded hyper-eutectic Al-Si (15wt.%) alloy in an engine oil environment. The wear mechanism of the material was also analyzed and compared to conventional gray cast iron. In microstructural observation results of Al-15wt.%Si alloy, primary Si phase ($45.3{\mu}m$) and eutectic Si phase ($3.1{\mu}m$) were found in the matrix, and the precipitations of $Mg_2Si({\beta}^{\prime})$, $Al_2Cu({\theta}^{\prime})$ and $Al_6(Mn,Fe)$ were also detected. In the case of gray cast iron, ferrite and pearlite were observed. It was also observed that flake graphite ($20-130{\mu}m$) were randomly distributed. Wear rates were lower in the Al-Si alloy as compared to those of gray cast iron in all load conditions, confirming the outstanding wear resistance of Al-15wt.%Si alloy in engine oil environment. In the $4kg_f$ condition, the wear rate of gray cast iron was $6.0{\times}10^{-5}$ and that of Al-Si measured $0.8{\times}10^{-5}$. The microstructures after wear of the two materials were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The primary Si and eutectic Si of Al-Si alloy effectively mitigated the abrasive wear, and the Al matrix effectively endured to accept a significant amount of plastic deformation caused by wear.

Recently, skyscraper building and apartment fires, which were rapidly spread out from a low floor to a rooftop, have become a frequent occurrence in mass media. This fire problems have a fatal disadvantage that the exterior wall finish of the building emits toxic gas in case of fire by using dry bit method or organic insulating material. Therefore, in order to remedy these problems, many exterior wall finishing construction methods have been proposed, but the current trend is to use existing construction methods due to problems such as economy, weight, and durability. On the other hand, in countries such as Germany and Japan, ceramic sidings are used as exterior finishing material for buildings, which is environmentally friendly, excellent natural beauty, long life, easy maintenance and high-quality exterior materials. However, those ceramic sidings have still the problems such as manufacturing cost and weight problem because of boosting the sintering temperature up to 1,350℃ or more. Also, conventional CRC, MgO, FRP sidings which are composed of pulp, glass fiber and organic materials, have been reports of deformation due to ultraviolet rays, discoloration, corrosion and scattering, surface rupture, lifting and peeling. Therefore, in this study as an alternative to solve this problem, halosite nano kaolin produced in Sancheong in Korea and frit flux were used to satisfy the required properties as ceramic siding using low temperature sintering (below 1,000℃) and lightweight materials such as pearlite. This study aims to design the optimal formulation and process of materials and to study the characteristics of nano-coated ceramic siding material development and to present relevant basic data. The findings show that ceramic siding for nanocoated building materials is excellent as a natural ceramic siding building material. The fire resistance of natural minerals and nano particle refining technology satisfy the bending strength of 80kgf / cm2, the volume ratio of 2.0 and the absorption rate of less than 10.0%.

Erosion-corrosion behaviors of Hadfield steel under a neutral aqueous environment with fine SiO2 particles were examined and compared with those of conventional carbon steel. A range of electrochemical experiments (potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization, and impedance), immersion test, and slurry pot test (i.e., erosion-corrosion test) were performed. Results showed that the Hadfield steel composed of austenitic matrix with (Fe,Mn)-based carbide had lower corrosion potential and higher corrosion current density than carbon steel with a typical ferrite/pearlite structure. In addition, pipe forming increased total corrosion rates (i.e., pure corrosion and erosion-enhanced corrosion rates). Nevertheless, the erosion-corrosion rate of Hadfield steel was much smaller. Morphological observation showed that local damage in the form of a crater by erosion-corrosion was more noticeable in carbon steel. The higher resistance of Hadfield steel to erosion-corrosion was attributed to its lower total erosion rates (i.e., pure erosion and corrosion-enhanced erosion rates) highly depending on surface hardness. This study suggests that Hadfield steel with higher resistances to flowing erosion-corrosion in an aqueous environment can be applied widely to various industrial fields.

D3 tools steel and 440C stainless steel (SS) are normally being employed for application such as knife blade and cutting tools. These steels are iron alloys which have high carbon and high chromium content. In this study, lab work focused on the microstructural and corrosion behavior of D3 tools steel and 440C SS after went through heat treatment processes. Heat treatments for both steels were started with normalizing at 1020 ℃, continue with hardening at 1000 ℃followed by oil quenching. Cryogenic treatment was carried out in liquid nitrogen for 24 hours. The addition of cryogenic heat treatment is believed to increase the hardness and corrosion resistance for steels. Both samples were then tempered at two different tempering temperatures, 160 ℃ and 426 ℃. For corrosion test, the samples were immersed in NaCl solution for 30 days to study the corrosion behavior of D3 tool steel and 440C SS after heat treatment. The mechanical properties of these steels have been investigated using Rockwell hardness machine before heat treatment, after heat treatment (before corrosion) and after corrosion test. Microstructure observation of samples was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. The corrosion rate of these steels was calculated after the corrosion test completed. From the results, the highest hardness is observed for D3 tool steel which tempered at 160 ℃(54.1 HRC). In terms of microstructural analysis, primary carbide and pearlite in the as-received samples transform to tempered martensite and cementite after heat treatment process. From this research, for corrosion test, heat treated 440C SS sample tempered with 426 ℃possessed the excellent corrosion resistance with corrosion rate 0.2808 mm/year.
This study analyzed nonmetallic inclusions in iron swords with a ring pommel excavated in the Ipbuk-dong, Suwon. Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS) was used to estimate the iron-making temperature, and we compared the oxide with $SiO_2$ to investigate the heat-treatment technology in the production of iron swords with a ring pommel by investigating the artificial insertion of a slag former and the metallurgical structure. From the wustite observed in most of the specimens, it is judged that these swords were produced by heating and forging iron smelted at a low temperature using the solid reduction method. In addition, judging from the partial presence of $P_2O_5$, it is assumed that they were smelted directly with natural ore, not calcined. From the ratios of $CaO/SiO_2$ and $TiO_2/SiO_2$, it is judged that the raw material for iron-making was iron ore and that a calcareous slag former was not artificially inserted. The structure of the blade part on the front end was pure iron. From the high carbon content of the blade part on the ring pommel and the formation of a martensitic structure and pearlite colony, it is judged that they were tempered after carburizing and that the back, handle part, and ring pommel were unintentionally carburized. Judging from the structure of these specimens, it was noted that they were produced by applying artificial partial heat-treatment technology. This study attempted to present a more scientific analysis by using the method of interpretation through component analysis of nonmetallic inclusions appearing in one relic by the ratio of the oxide divided by $SiO_2$. It is judged that reinterpreting the arguments by the results of the existing analysis and research in this way can obtain different interpretations.
This study was conducted to evaluate development of seed pellet technique such as pellet polymer search, the shape formation and hardness, the germination and emergence rate of the pellet seeds for labor-saving and reducing production cost in onion(Allium cepa L.) cultivation. The pellet seeds shape formation was good such as kaolin, clay, ash, and gypsum, and clay was good shape formation but surface of pellet seed was cracked during the drying. PG(pearlite + gypsum) as pellet material and PVA as binder were the best among the material in consideration with shape and hardness together. The hardness of the pellet seeds was affected by polymers, the kinds and concentration of binders, and that degree was large at polymer. The high hardness polymers were gypsum and coal ash, but burned lime was the lowest hardness among the pellet material. The germination(GP) and emergence percentage(EP) of pellet seed with PG in vitro were the highest among the material, and that was 93.6, 91.8%, respectively. The EP of pellet seed with PG at 20, $25^{\circ}C$ were 91.3, 92.0%, respectively, The EP of pellet seed were over the 91%, and those did not show difference with field moisture capacity , and that of 5 and 6mm size seed were the highest as 92%, respectively. and other size seeds showed over 90%, too. The EP of pellet seed with PG was decreasing as increasing the sowing depth, and that of at 10mm sowing depth was the highest as 92.7%. The time to 50% emergence of that under 70% field moisture capacity was 158h, and that was delayed at 20h compare to control seed.
