  • We study chromospheric oscillations including umbral flashes and running penumbral waves in a sunspot using scanning spectroscopy in H-alpha and Ca II 8542A, with the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) at the 1.6 meter New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory. A bisector method is applied to spectral observations to construct chromospheric Doppler velocity maps. Temporal sequence analysis of these shows enhanced high-frequency oscillations inside the sunspot umbra in both lines. Their peak frequency gradually decreases outward from the umbra. The oscillation power is found to be associated with magnetic-field strength and inclination, with different relationships in different frequency bands.

  • In this paper, in order to clarify the mature of traps in polymer, the thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements were mad on high density polyethylene by changing the condition of the high-field treatment such as the strength of the field (Fe), the treatment time (te) and the heating rate (.betha.). In addition, the TSC measured from the HDPE was compared with that from LDPE having different crystallinity. The obtained results can suggest that the trapping proceeds during the high-field treatment and the trap associated with the peak P$_{2}$ may have the closed relation to drystallinity and the release of trapped charge is enhanced by the molecular motion.

  • Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/clay nanocomposites were synthesized by blending a solution of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer containing 12% vinyl acetate abbreviated as EVA-12 in toluene and dispersion of dodecyl ammonium ion intercalated montmorillonite (l2Me-MMT) in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). X-ray patterns of sodium montmorillonite ($Na^+$-MMT) and 12Me-MMT exhibited $d_{001}$ peak at $2{\theta}=7.4^{\circ}$ and $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$ respectively; that is, the interlayer spacing of MMT increased by about 0.39 nm due to intercalation of dodecyl ammonium ions. The XRD trace of EVA showed no peak in the angular range of $3-10^{\circ}(2{\theta})$. In the XRD patterns of EVA/clay hybrids with clay content up to 6 wt% the basal reflection peak of 12Me-MMT was absent. leading to the formation of delaminated configuration of the composites. When the 12Me-MMT content was 8 wt% in the EVA-12 matrix, the hybrid revealed a peak at about $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$, owing to the aggregation of aluminosilicate layers. Transmission electron microscopic photograph exhibited that an average size of 12-15 nm clay layers were randomly and homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix, which led to the formation of nanocomposite with delaminated configuration. The formation of delaminated nanocomposites was manifested through the enhancement of mechanical properties and thermal stability, e.g. tensile strength of an hybrid containing only 2 wt% 12Me-MMT was enhanced by about 36% as compared with neat EVA-12.

  • Objective: This study analyzed the correlation between uni-standing balance ability, jumping ability, and anaerobic lower extremity power of high school Taekwondo players. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Two high schools recruited 36 taekwondo players, but 5 were dropped due to personal circumstances and preparations for the tournament, so the number was counted as 31. In order to test uni-standing balance ability, the Romberg test was performed using Biorescue to measure the sway area. In order to test jumping ability, standing long jump and standing highjump were measured. For anaerobic lower extremity muscle power test, the peak power and average power were measured through 30-second pedaling using a Wingate system bicycle. Results: Participants did not show any correlation with other measures in the uni-standing balance ability test (p>0.05). Looking at the correlation in the standing long jump, standing high jump (r=0.892, p<0.05), anaerobic peak power (r=0.698, p<0.05), anaerobic average leg power (r=0.662, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Looking at the correlations in the standing high jump, anaerobic peak power (r=0.663, p<0.05), anaerobic average power (r=0.697, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Looking at the correlation in the anaerobic peak power, average power (r=0.785, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Conclusions: This study shows that balance ability and anaerobic leg strength are independent of each other. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the training plan of high school taekwondo players in the future.

  • The slope stabi1ity analyses for Carsington dam were performed by using the computer program STABL and PC-SLOPE. The slip surface predicted by STABL can differ from the true slip surface. This is due to the characteristics of searching technique of the program STABL. Hence various possible potential slip surfaces must be examined using the program STABL. Various methods of analysis are employed in the program PC-SLOPE. A resonable factor of safety can be obtained by comparing the various values, and the potential slip surface can be predicted well relatively. The shear strength parameters of ctitical or residual state must be investigated as well as the peak strength for the case of the Carsington dam, where the deformation took place over long periods.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine how stimulation using Russian current changes isokinetic exercise performance of quadriceps muscle and its antagonist muscles. Methods: Subjects were 20 20-year-old healthy adults who were instructed in the flexion to extension of knees in angular velocity $60^{\circ}/sec$ and $180^{\circ}/sec$ using a Biodex (Biodex system 3). We measured the difference in muscle performance between the Russian current stimulated at the same time during the flexion to extension of knees and not stimulated. Results: The results showed that when Russian current stimulation was applied at the angular velocity $60^{\circ}/sec$, the flexed and extended muscles and the angular velocity $180^{\circ}/sec$ increased significantly, but the peak torque of flexing muscles at the angular velocity $180^{\circ}/sec$ did not increase. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Russian current stimulation with isokinetic exercise of the knee joint could affect the quadriceps muscle and its antagonist muscle performance of muscle strength and endurance.

  • The role of fly ash in concrete become impotant with finding the charateristics of fly ash in which it is used as cement replacement material. An experimental study is carried out to investigate the characteristics of concrete containing fly ash. The loss of slump and air content of fly ash concrete tested up to 120 minutes are lower than those of ordinary concrete, but the setting time and bleeding are increased with increasing fly ash content. The compressive and tensile strength of fly ash concrete are slightly lower than those of ordinary concrete between 7 and 28 days, however, the long-term (at 180 days) compressive strength of fly ash concrete is significantly higher. In addition, fly ash reduces the heat of hydration and peak of temperature rise in concrete.

  • Short, randomly disturbed steel fibers in concrete increase tensile strength and ductility of concrete under direct tension. These improvements are results form crack arrest mechanisms of steel fibers in concrete. These mechanisms are theoretically considered in this study and verification on the adequancy of different spacing for predicting tensile strength of SFRC are assessed. Results indicate that better correlation exists between experimental result and the spacing concept which take into account the effect of boundaries as well as vibration on reorientation of steel fibers inside concrete. Also considered is the modeling of stress-crack opening relationships in post-peak region of SFRC under tension which bass its deviation on micromechanics of fiber pull-out. Satisfactoring results are observed between tests results and the prediction of the model.

  • We tested the limestone powder as a filler powder for the effective use of slag cement. Hydration process were investigated by measuring the thermal differential analysis(DTA), compressive strength, XRD patterns, calorimeter of slag cement-limestone powder paste prepared by mixing limestone powder-slag cement. The results obtained in this study, there were no significant difference between the cases of adding up to 5% limestone powder, but the reaction time was accelerated. Also the compressive strength was increased for adding up to 5% limestone powder. The min hydrated paste products were Ca(OH)2 and calcium silicate hydrates. In the case of mixed limestone powder peak appear tricalcium carboaluminate hydrate in the sample of 7 days hydration.

  • There has been considerable research dealing with the influence of surface roughness along surfaces of rock discontinuities in relation to the peak shear strength of rock masses. Concepts accepted recently for measuring such strength include estimation of a roughness coefficient such as developed by Barton's studies. The method for estimation the Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) value of a measured roughness profile is subjective. The aim of this research is to estimate the JRC value of the roughness of a surface profile in a rock mass system using an objective method. The study of roughness of surfaces has included measurement of fractal geometric characteristics. Once the irregularity of the surface has been described by the fractal dimension, the spatial variation of the surface irregularities can be described using variogram and drift analysis. An empirical relationships between the roughness profiles of selected JRC ranges and their fractal dimension with variogram and drift were derived. The application of analyses of fractal dimension, variogram and drift was novel for the analysis of roughness profiles. Also, an empirical equation was applied to experimental data.
