  • This study was conducted to develop a thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials which is considered as a durable pavement materials. The mechanical performance characteristics of the polymer epoxy resin materials were also evaluated to confirm the validity as a pavement materials. To estimate the performance properties of the materials, bending tests and bonding tests were performed using freeze-thaw and ultra-violet rays to accelerate the aging of materials. In addition, HYUNStay, a commercial structural analysis program for cable-stayed bridges, was used to compare the effect of paving materials between the polymer epoxy resin materials and the conventional ones on the reduction of cable tension and on the stability of the main tower. According to the test results, it is noted that the thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials can improve the performance and durability of pavement compared to the conventional one.

  • In part of mechanical design analysis, quadrilateral mesh is usually used because it provides less approximate errors than triangular mesh. Over the decades, Paving method has been considered as the most robust method among existing automatic quadrilateral element mesh generation methods. However, it also has some problems such as unpredictable node projection and relatively large element generation. In this study, the aforementioned problems are corrected by updating the Paving method. In so doing, a part of node projection process is modified by classifying nodes based on the interior angles. The closure check process is also modified by adding more nodes while generating elements. The result shows well shaped element distribution in the final mesh without any aforementioned problems.

  • An automatic quadrilateral mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis such as metal forming simulation was developed. The NURBS interpolation method is used for modeling arbitrary 2-D free surface. This mesh generation technique is the modified paving algorithm, which is an advancing front technique with element-by-element resolving method for paving boundary intersection problem. The mesh density for higher analysis accuracy and less analysis time can be easily controlled with high-density points, maximum and minimum element size. A couple of application to large deformation finite element analysis is given as an example, which shows versatility and applicability of the proposed approach and the developed mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis.

  • Scheduling is one of the main functions in construction project to determine the sequence of activities necessary to complete a project. The scheduling techniques provide important information crucial to a project's success. Highway construction project the paving activity can be considered a linear activity. Linear scheduling technique may be better suited for linear projects than other scheduling techniques. A new type of scheduling in linear project is calling Linear Scheduling Model (LSM). The Project monitoring and controlling is very ease to identify that all the stage of linear project and have more advantages.

  • Currently, the Korean Smart Construction Corporation aims to stimulate overseas expansion of smart construction technology centered on Expressway development. In addition, the integrated classification system of construction information with Work Breakdown Structure(WBS) is currently being established in Korea, but its application to the construction industry is limited. In this study, data generation using simulation is carried out at the lowest level of WBS presented by the Korea Expressway Corporation, and detailed process productivity is predicted by site conditions.

  • The total of 35 target VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which were included in the TO-14, was selected to develop a VOCs' source profile matrix of the Yeosu Petrochemical Complex and to test its collinearity by singular value decomposition(SVD) technique. The VOCs collected in canisters were sampled from 12 different sources such as 8 direct emission sources (refinery, painting, wastewater treatment plant, incinerator, petrochemical processing, oil storage, fertilizer plant, and iron mill) and 4 general area sources (gasoline vapor emission, graphic art activity, vehicle emission, and asphalt paving activity) in this study area, and then those samples were analyzed by GC/MS. Initially the resulting raw data for each profile were scaled and normalized through several data treatment steps, and then specific VOCs showing major weight fractions were intensively reviewed and compared by introducing many other related studies. Next, all of the source profiles were tested in terms of degree of collinearity by SVD technique. The study finally could provide a proper VOCs' source profile in the study area, which can give opportunities to apply various receptor models properly including chemical mass balance (CMB).

  • This paper is to clarify on the characteristics of the Haeeumwonji and the Main Palace of the Goryo Dynasty. The architectural techniques and construction methods such as embankment, stylobate, stairway, foundation stone, and pave are similar to those of the Haeeumwonji and the Main Palace of the Goryo Dynasty. In order to express the hierarchy of the area and building, the materials, techniques, and forms of the embankment, stylobate, stairway, foundation stone and pave were used differently. The paving of the floor of the main building and area is also an active expression of the hierarchy and status of the building area and the building through the use of building materials, techniques and forms. This result confirms the support of Goryeo royal family and the upper class for the construction of Haeeumwonji, which is recorded in the historical documents. And it also shows that the architectural techniques and processing method of the same period were shared in the capital and provinces, which is an important clue that proves that the capital-centered architectural technology has spread to the provinces. It is expected that additional research will be needed on the characteristics of the period of 12th century architecture technique in which Haeeumwonji was built.

  • Taegu is notorious as hot and dry summer among Korea cities. One of the most important goals of the open space planning is to ameliorate urban climate of the city. The objective of this research is to evaluate the thermal mitigation effect of the cool islands in Taegu metropolitan city. Cool islands of this paper includes parks and rivers surrounded by or adjacent to urbanized areas. Based on the analysis of the thermal band of Landsat TM at May 17, 1997, the thermal mitigation effect of open spaces in the city could be summarized as follows ; Kumho river showed the largest mitigation effect in terms of the width of mitigation zone and temperature difference. Evaporation from wide water surface and evapo-transpiration from riparian grass land could bring into results. Significant mitigation effect of parks covered with forest can be observed. The temperature range of such parks were between 19.05$^{\circ}C$ and 19.44$^{\circ}C$ However, the thermal mitigation effect of Dalsung park and Apsan park was insignificant. The small size and high percentage of hard paving of the former and the relative low density of the residential areas adjacent to the latter could be the main reason. In conclusion, the thermal mitigation effect in urban ope spaces could be detectedby the employment of thermal band data of Landsat TM and GIS buffering technique.

  • Global warming awareness through energy conservation is growing due to the regulatory policies issued by governments and voluntary organization that established carbon emission limits. Transportation is one of the major contributors to carbon emissions. Bike will be simultaneously saving money, getting fit and helping to reduce global warming. Web design has been identified as a key factor for the acceptance and success of the websites and electronic commerce. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effective implementation of the proposed Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique on a bike case study whose company (Bike Company) is involved in web design for a critical component in the demonstration. Survey research used a variety of data collection methods, with the most common being questionnaires and interviews of some exporters. The research results reveal that the top five key success factors are Good reputation, Transaction security, Ease of use, Promotion, and Diversified choices, which provide the guidelines and directions for decision-makers to design effective websites in the current competitive business scenario. The major findings of this study are suggesting that Internet marketing channels are securing the company's relevance, together with paving the way for methods to increase web traffic.
