  • The quality of the ceramic sintered coating on a metal surface through laser surface treatment is affected by the laser irradiation pattern. Depending on the laser irradiation pattern, the amount of residual stress and heat applied or accumulated on the surface increases or decreases, affecting the thickness attained in the ceramic sintering area. When the heat energy accumulated in the sintering area is high, the ceramic and the metal alloy melt and sufficiently mix to form a homogeneous and thick bonding interface. In this study, the thermal energy accumulation in the region sintered with zirconia was controlled using four types of laser processing patterns. The thickness of the diffusion region is analyzed by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy of Mg-ZrO2 generated by laser sintering zirconia powder on the magnesium alloy surface. On the basis of the analysis of the Mg and Zr present in the sintered region through LIBS, the effect of the irradiation pattern on the sintering quality is confirmed by comparing and analyzing the heat and mass transfer tendency of the diffusion layer and the degree of diffusion according to the irradiation pattern. The derived diffusion coefficients differed by up to 9.8 times for each laser scanning pattern.

  • An experimental study to investigate the condensing heat transfer characteristics of small diameter horizontal double pipe heat exchangers with R-22 and R-410A was performed. Experimental facility was constructed to calculate and observe HTC(heat transfer coefficients), flow patterns and pressure drop. The main components include a liquid pump, an evaporator, a condenser(test section), a sight-glass, pressure taps and measurement apparatus. Two pipes of different diameters are tested; One 5.35 mm ID 0.5 mm thick, the other 3.36 mm ID 0.7 mm thick. The mass flow rate ranged from 200 to $500\;ks/m^2{\cdot}s$ and heating capacity were form 1.0 to 2.4 kW. The flow patterns of R-22 and R-410A were observed with a high speed camera through the sight-glass. The tests revealed that HTC of R-410A was higher than that of R-22 by maximum 5%. Annular pattern was observed for the most cases but stratified flow was also detected when x<0.2. The pressure drop in 3.36 mm ID pipe was higher than that of 5.35 mm by $30{\sim}50%$. Comparing with previous correlations such as Shah, Fujii and Soliman's, Fujii' showed the best good agreement with my data with a maximum deviation of 40%.

  • This is the second paper on the combustion characteristics of landfill gas in a constant volume combustion chamber for a large displacement volume commercial engine, and it discusses the combustion process on the basis of pressure measurements. The results show that the bimodal peak pressure phenomenon, which is caused by the interaction of the heat release and the heat transfer, is more apparent as the mixtures are more favorable to combustion, and the magnitudes of the pressures depend on the unburned fraction. In addition, there exist four main inflection points during heat release owing to variations in the heat transfer area related to flame propagation from the ignition point. Furthermore, the number of inflection points increases as the mixture quality worsens because of the extended burn duration. Consequently, the sophisticated interactions between the heat transfer area changing pattern due to flame propagation and transfer duration might cause very peculiar heat release patterns.

  • The laminar natural convection of air in 2-D rectangular enclosure in which two opposing isothermal walls were kept at different temperatures is investigated numerically for Rayleigh number up to $10^6$. Computations were performed for the width-to-height ratios of 1, 2, and 4, and for the inclination angle range of $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}90^{\circ}$. For each aspect ratio, the influence of the inclination angle on the flow patterns and heat transfer rates were examined for $10^3{\leq}Ra{\leq}10^6$. It is found that the growth of secondary flow in the corners led to the decrease in overall heat transfer for small aspect ratio case, and the transition from a three-cell structure to a unicell flow pattern in large aspect ratio led to a step-like change in heat transfer. A new correlation of mean Nusselt number is presented for the vertical case of ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$.

  • Even though klotho deficiency in mice exhibits multiple aging-like phenotypes, studies using large animal models such as pigs, which have many similarities to humans, have been limited due to the absence of cell lines or animal models. The objective of this study was to generate homozygous klotho knockout porcine cell lines and cloned embryos. A CRISPR sgRNA specific for the klotho gene was designed and sgRNA (targeting exon 3 of klotho) and Cas9 RNPs were transfected into porcine fibroblasts. The transfected fibroblasts were then used for single cell colony formation and 9 single cell-derived colonies were established. In a T7 endonuclease I mutation assay, 5 colonies (#3, #4, #5, #7 and #9) were confirmed as mutated. These 5 colonies were subsequently analyzed by deep sequencing for determination of homozygous mutated colonies and 4 (#3, #4, #5 and #9) from 5 colonies contained homozygous modifications. Somatic cell nuclear transfer was performed to generate homozygous klotho knockout cloned embryos by using one homozygous mutation colony (#9); the cleavage and blastocyst formation rates were 72.0% and 8.3%, respectively. Two cloned embryos derived from a homozygous klotho knockout cell line (#9) were subjected to deep sequencing and they showed the same mutation pattern as the donor cell line. In conclusion, we produced homozygous klotho knockout porcine embryos cloned from genome-edited porcine fibroblasts.

  • A cooling mechanism using acoustic streaming by ultrasonic vibrations and associated convective heat transfer enhancement is investigated experimentally and analytically. Acoustic streaming pattern and associated heat transfer characteristics are presented. Analytical transient temperature profile of the heated plate following Nyborgs theory is accomplished along with experimental measurement. A temperature drop of 30 C is obtained in 4 minutes with vibration amplitude of 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As the vibration amplitude is further increased to 25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ a temperature drop of 40 C is achieved that is the maximum temperature drop obtained with the current experimental apparatus. Analytical heat transfer solutions verified a temperature drop of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with a vibration amplitude of 25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ at 28.4 kHz which is experimentally obtained.

  • Among several movements that occurred upon a slope, golf swing is the most typical one because environmental conditions dynamically vary with many kinds of slopes. Some studies on the golf swing were performed about a weight transfer on flatland, however, there couldn't be seen any study about the weight transfer on slope elsewhere. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to provide quantified data to objectively test the coaching words and keys about the weight transfer at sidehill slope during goal impact EspeciaIly sidehill Slopes with ball above the feet. Four highschool golfer, who have average handy 5, were recruited for this study. Plantar pressure distribution and cinematographic data were collected during golf swing in the conditions of flatland, $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$sidehill slope simultaneously. The two data were used to synchronize the two data later. The plantar regions under the foot were divided into 8 regions according to the directly applied pressure pattern of the subject to insole sensor. The 8 foot regions were hullux, medial forefoot, central forefoot, lateral forefoot, medial midfoot, lateral midfoot, medial heel, and lateral heel. And the plantar pressure data was also divided into four movement address, phases-backswing. downswing, and follow-through phases according to the percentage shown to the visual information of film data. Based on the investigations on public golf books and experiences of golfers, it was hypothesized by the authors in the early of this study that the steeper slopes are, the more weight loads on left foot that positions at the higher place. When observing the results of plantar pressure and vertical force curves according to the sidehill slope conditions, the hypothesis could be accepted.

  • In this study, the influence of the presence of discontinuity planes on the load transfer mechanism and the pattern of loosening zone was studied based on the laboratory test. The trap-door and the reaction plates are installed as the bottom plane of the model box. The vertical discontinuity plane is installed in the dry sand. Various overburden heights and locations of discontinuity planes are applied as major factors in this study. The results show that at higher overburden heights over about 1.5 times the excavation width, the ratio of the transferred stress to the insitu stress converges to a certain value even if the overburden height increases further. The results also show that the discontinuity plane gives relatively larger influence on the load transfer mechanism, that produces the unsymmetrical load concentration, when the discontinuity plane locates within the tunnel width. When the discontinuity plane locates outside the tunnel width, the unsymmetrical load concentration is reduced considerably.

  • A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the transfer of As and cationic heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd and Pb) from soil to rice plant in soil condition with submerged and drained. During the ninety-day monitoring period for soil solution, solubility of reducible elements such as As, Fe and Mn in submerged condition were higher than that of Zn. On the contrary, concentration of Zn in drained condition was higher than that of reducible elements. The concentration of As, Cd, Pb and Zn in rice plant (root, stem, leaf and grain) showed similar pattern with soil solution. The As concentration in each part of rice plant, which cultivated in drained condition, measured 56%~94% lower than those in submerged condition. However, the contents of cationic heavy metals (Cd, Pb and Zn) were represented the opposite result with As. These results are due to mobility of As and cationic heavy metals under different soil drainage conditions which represent oxidation and reduction. Thus soil drainage control can be used as acceptable passive treatment methods to reduce transfer of inorganic contaminants from soil to rice plant. However more detailed examination on soil condition conversion is needed, because yield of rice was decreased when it cultivated in drained condition only. It also needed when soil is contaminated by As and cationic heavy metal because single drainage condition cannot reduce transfer of both kinds of contaminants all.
