  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing infection-related characteristics and patient safety culture on awareness of blood-borne infection prevention between operating room nurses and general ward nurses. Methods: Participants were 198 nurses(operating room nurses 98 and general ward nurses: 100) working at three general hospitals and three university hospitals in three cities. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from September 11 to October 14, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with IBM SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: Typically, 39.8% of nurses in the operating room and 24.0% of ward nurses experienced injuries such as needles and sharp instruments used by the patient. The awareness of patient safety culture was identified to be higher for the ward nurses. Factors influencing the awareness of blood-borne infection prevention in operating room nurses were patient safety culture and wearing protective equipment for infection prevention while nursing infected patients. Moreover, the explanatory power of these variables was 19.4%. In general ward nurses, the patient safety culture was identified as a significant predictor, which accounted for 16.5% of awareness of blood-borne infection prevention. Conclusion: To prevent hospital infection, a strategy is needed to improve the level of awareness of blood-borne infection prevention and patient safety culture of operating room nurses. To this end, the difference in infection-related characteristics and influencing factors between the operating room nurses and the general ward nurses should be considered and planned.

  • Nowadays, Korean society is quickly transforming into an aging society. There are lots of problems resulting from old aged society. First of all, in the case of medical service, it is an urgent task to find out what is the most proper care for the elderly in order to reduce medical expenses. It can be said that the geriatric hospital has to be designed to give adequate medical service to the elderly. However, it is hard to find out what the differences is between the general hospital and the geriatric hospital. Especially, the plan of the patient room has to reflect thoughtful consideration relating to characteristics of the elderly due to the fact that there is a close connection between the patient room and residence. Therefore this study aims to suggest the guideline and the plan of the patient room for the elderly.

Methods: For this descriptive research, self-reported questionnaires were administered to 168 OR nurses who were working at the university-affiliated and general hospitals. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\grave{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The mean score of the awareness on patient safety culture was 3.27 out of 5 points and that of safety care activity was 4.31 out of 5. The statistically significant difference was found between experience of safety education and the awareness on patient safety culture. Also, the scores of safety care activities were significantly different according to OR nurses' position, education levels, and experience of safety education. There was a positive correlation between the awareness of patient safety culture and safety care activity. Their explanatory power on safety care activity was 8.8%, which includes working environment in operating room 3.3% and nursing position 5.5%. Conclusion: Compared to the level of patient safety activities, the OR nurses' awareness on patient safety culture was low. Given the specific characteristics and conditions in each hospital, it needs to increase the OR nurses' awareness on patient safety culture and activities related to patient safety.

  • Background: It is widely acknowledged that single bedrooms have many potential advantages compared to multiple bedrooms. However, Korea has a reimbursement system that patients have to pay the additional fee if they will use single bedroom or pay-bed (1-3 bedroom). There is little research on patients' bed selection and relationship between patient satisfaction and bed type in the Korean setting. Methods: Using the 2017 Korea Health Panel (KHP) Survey data, we modified bed type by two dichotomous variables: single bedroom vs. multiple bedroom (2+ bedrooms) and pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) vs. reimbursed bed (4+ bedroom). Multivariate logistic regression is performed to determine the factors affecting the patient's choice of room types. Multivariate regression analysis was conducted to examine how hospital room types are affecting patient satisfaction. Results: Single room and pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) use was influenced by patient age (19- years old), male, a person at work, hospitalizing in a clinic, and birth. After controlling variables of the behavioral model of medical utilization, the association between patient satisfaction and use of single bedroom & pay-bed (1-3 bedroom). Cause of hospitalization, major treatment, and recognition of unnecessary care are statistically significant variables on patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Although the single room is about the standard for newly built hospitals in western countries, it remains unclear that single room or pay-bed (1-3 bedroom) has positive effects on patient's outcomes and satisfaction. In this empirical study, the difference in patient satisfaction by bedroom type was not noticeable. In terms of bed management by hospital staff, securing patient credibility in hospital care is an important task. Patients' perception of whether medical staffs have encouraged unnecessary treatment or tests has a significant impact on patient's satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for architectural planning through survey about the ward of women's hospital. This study considered the concept of women's hospital through theoretical consideration and analysed a blueprint of 30 cases about typical plan type, the size and layout of patient-room, space allocation and circulation. And then a survey of patients has to identify their needs. Because the rate of composition of an upper grade patient-room in women's hospital is higher than that of general hospital to improve habitability in ward needs not only the importance of the planing of patient-room itself, but also providing a small courtyard, day-room between the patient-rooms or outdoor terrace. When patient moves it was provided visual comfort and strengthen social exchange. Also, physical environment has to reflect mother's psychological needs and diversity by individuality in unit is essential to planning.
