  • Recently, direct drive AC servo motor and DSP is widely used in the factory automation and related field due to the enhanced control and digital technology. In this paper, position control of direct drive AC servo motor and numerical interpolation algorithms are studied using DSP for the future applications. In the direct drived motor control, encoder pulse is divided into the quadruple pulse for the higher resolution and high speed pulse(10MHz) is used as reference for the slower speed motor control (M/T method). As for the general position control, PI controller is adapted for position control. In the trajectory tracking numerical algorithm, interpolation of straight line and curve algorithms are studied for the realization of path following capabilities of XY table. As for the DSP, ADSP 2105 is selected for the economy and performance points of view.

  • We suggested new PDP packaging technology using the direct joint method, which does not need an exhausting hole and tube. The advantages of this method are simple process, short process time and time panel package. To packaging, we drew the seal line of glass frit by dispenser followed by forming the lump, which provide pumping-out path during the packaging process. And, we have performed a pretreatment of glass frit to reduce the out-gases. After which, both front and rear glass plates were aligned and loaded into vacuum packaging chamber. The 4-inch monochrome AC-PDP was successfully packaged and fully emitted with brightness of 1000 $cd/m^2$. Also, glass frit properties for pretreatment condition was investigated by AES and SEM analyses.

  • Many Korean university campuses are located on hilly terrain where the hierarchy of the path system is unclear. Therefore, it is difficult to analyze the pedestrian network through space syntax, in which only horizontal direction changes are considered as depths of space. The purpose of this study is to compare pedestrian movement patterns and space syntax analysis in order to find their relevance to each other and the relationship between them. We conducted a survey regarding the most-visited buildings and pathways at S-University, which is located on a hilly area in Seoul. The survey results were compared with the Space Syntax integration map by regression analysis. For the segments where the relationship between pedestrian volume and integration was weak, field observations were conducted. As a result, topographical aspects, functional aspects, and location aspects were observed as the main influential factors. In addition, the research proposes that adding an extra axial line per vertical directional change can potentially compensate for the low relevance of stairs. This study suggests the possibility and the necessity of three-dimensional space syntax programs and emphasizes the importance of campus planning for the pedestrian environment.

  • This paper presents key findings obtained from the numerical experiment investigating into the use of the cylindrical cavity for rock splitting operations. The stress and strain path analyses were carried out in order to provide a better insight into the crack formation. The principal stress analysis carried out along the crack line using the results obtained from these numerical analyses allowed the failure of the brittle material and the crack propagation to be investigated. This paper also suggested possible reasons for the change in crack direction observed during the rock splitting operations using the results obtained.

  • A large incoherent crosstalk (IC) caused by amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise power from Tx-disabled optical network units and a differential path loss has been shown to degrade upstream transmission performance in time-division multiplexing passive optical networks. This paper considers the IC-induced power penalty of an upstream signal both in an XG-PON and in a TWDM-PON. We investigate the degradation of the extinction ratio and relative intensity noise through a simulation and experiments. For the XG-PON case, we observe a 9.6 dB difference in the level of ASE noise power from Tx-disabled ONUs (hereafter known simply as ASE noise) between our result and the ITU-T XG-PON PMD recommendation. We propose an optical filtering method to mitigate an IC-induced power penalty. In the TWDM-PON case, the IC-induced power penalty is naturally negligible because the ASE noise is filtered by a wavelength multiplexer at the optical line terminal. The results provide design guidelines for the level of ASE noise in both XG-PONs and TWDM-PONs.

  • The purpose of a localization system is to estimate the coordinates of the geographic location of a mobile device. The accuracy of wireless localization is influenced by nonline-of-sight (NLOS) errors in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we present an improved time of arrival (TOA)-based localization method for wireless sensor networks. TOA-based localization estimates the geographic location of a mobile device using the distances between a mobile station (MS) and three or more base stations (BSs). However, each of the NLOS errors along a distance measured from an MS (device) to a BS (device) is different because of dissimilar obstacles in the direct signal path between the two devices. To accurately estimate the geographic location of a mobile device in TOA-based localization, we propose an optimized localization method with a BS selection scheme that selects three measured distances that contain a relatively small number of NLOS errors, in this paper. Performance evaluations are presented, and the experimental results are validated through comparisons of various localization methods with the proposed method.

  • Uphole test is a seismic field test using receivers on ground surface and a source in depth. In this paper, the uphole test using SPT(standard penetration test) which is economical and reliable for obtaining shear wave velocity profile was introduced. In the proposed uphole test, SPT sampler which is common in site investigation, was used as a source and several 1Hz geophones in line were used as receivers. Test procedures in field and interpretation methods for obtaining interval times and for determining shear wave velocity profile considering refracted ray path were introduced. Finally, uphole test was performed at three sites, and the applicability of the proposed uphole test was verified by comparing wave velocity profiles determined by the uphole test with the profiles determined by downhole test, SASW test and SPT-N values.

  • The strain distribution in a wide strip drawn through a wedge-shaped die is obtained from the numerical integration of strain increments along the flow path of material points in the slipline field for a non-hardening material under the plane strain condition. It is shown that the strain in the surface layer increases with friction and that the strain at the mid-plane is a function of area reduction only. The redundant deformation factor, obtained from the average strain in a drawn strip, increases with friction. For the workability analysis of a strip drawing process, the strain states along with hydrostatic stresses are needed for the evaluation of a damage function based on the hole-growth mechanism of ductile fracture. The critical maximum of the damage function is assumed to be a material constant. As a result, mid-plane cracking is likely to occur in a process at a small reduction, with a large die angle, and in poor lubrication. Distortions of an initially transverse line are also calculated.

  • We present a new code for solving non-LTE radiative transfer problems in a general grid (RIG). RIG develops from RATRAN code (Hogerheijde & van der Tak 2000) using the Accelerated Monte-Carlo method, and it can cope with line overlap effect among multiple molecular and atomic species. In this algorithm we make grids in arbitrary coordinates adequate to the problem, but, on the other hand, photons propagate in the Cartesian coordinates. For spherical, cylindrical and other well defined coordinate, the problem of tracing photon's path reduces to solving simple quadratic equations. For example, the outflow in the star formation have high dynamic range in scales from a few AU to ~ 0.1 pc and have also cylindrical symmetry. So, we have used (r, ${\alpha}$) coordinate system, where r is the distance from the origin and ${\alpha}$ is z/ R2 in the cylindrical coordinate of (R,z). The (r, ${\alpha}$) coordinate realizes the density - power function of r - and temperature distributions of the problems with smaller numbers of grid than the cylindrical coordinate does, and the former consumes less time to solve the problems than the latter.

  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is generally flied via a pre-planned flight path or real-time commands by an operator. To succeed in an assigned mission, analysis such as the line-of-sight analysis for communication between UAV and a ground data terminal should be performed. In this paper, various analysis algorithms which are performed by a ground control station in pre-flight and in-flight phases, are proposed for the safe flight of UAV. Note that the proposed algorithms can be applied to most UAV systems.
