In this paper, a design method of optical FSK transmitter is described using LD-FM circuit model. In the design of optical FSK transmitter, an optimum bias current was chosen using LD-FM circuit model, and an unequalized FM transfer function was determined at this current. The equalizers that can make this transfer function uniform were designed by use of a simple passive network. For the designed optical FSK transmitter, the pulse-transient and small-signal frequency-deviation responses were simulated and discussed.
In this paper, a method is proposed to improve power factor and the input current THD in LED driver circuit. The researched circuit consists of a valley-fill circuit and boosting inductor and a Buck converter. Valley-fill circuit is a passive PFC and simplified structure, the buck converter is operated with current feedback. The switching frequency is 50KHz in LED driver circuit and LED forward current is constant. A valley-fill type PFC circuit for LED driver(15Watt) has been implemented, and the validity of proposed method is shown by is simulation and experimental result.

Attaching a piezoelectric transducer to a vibrating structure, and shunting it with an electric circuit, gives rise to different passive, semi-passive, and semi-active control techniques. This paper attempts to review the research related to structural vibration control, via passive, semi-passive, and semi-active control methods. First, the existing electromechanical modeling is reviewed, along with the modeling methods. These range from lumped parameters, to distributed parameters modeling of piezostructural systems shunted by electrical networks. Vibration control laws are then discussed, covering passive, semi-passive, and semi-active control techniques, which are classified according to whether external power is supplied to the piezoelectric transducers, or not. Emphasis is placed on recent articles covering semi-passive and semi-active control techniques, based upon switched shunt circuits. This review provides the necessary background material for researchers interested in the growing field of vibration damping and control, via shunted piezostructural systems.
The anodic polarization behavior of equiatomic TiNi shape memory alloy with pure titanium as a reference material was investigated by means of open circuit potential measurement and potentiodynamic polarization technique. And the structure of passive films on TiNi intermetallic compounds was also conducted using AES and ESCA. While the dissolved Ni(II) ion did not affect the dissolution rate and passivation of TiNi alloy, the dissolved Ti(III) ion was oxidated to Ti(IV) ion on passivated TiNi surface at passivation potential. It has also been found that the Ti(IV) ion increases the steady state potential, and passivates TiNi alloy at a limited concentration of Ti(IV) ion. The analysis by AES showed that passive film of TiNi alloy was composed of titanium oxide and nickel oxide, and the content of titanium was three times higher than that of nickel in outer side of passive film. According to the ESCA analysis, the passive film was composed of $TiO_2$ and NiO. It seems reasonable to suppose that NiO could act as unstabilizer to the oxide film and could be dissolved preferentially. Therefore, nickel oxide contained in the passive film may promote the dissolution of the film, and it could be explained the reason of higher pitting susceptibility of TiNi alloy than pure Ti.

In this paper, a novel 622Mbps burst-mode clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit is proposed for passive optical network (PON) applications. The CDR circuits are implemented with 0.35um CMOS process technology. Locking dynamics is accomplished with instantaneous feature and data are sampled at an optimal timing. This is realized by seven different delay configurations, which are generated from precisely-controlled delay buffers. The experimental results show that the proposed CDR circuits are operating as expected, recovering an incoming 622Mbps burst-mode input data without errors.
A new sensor system is proposed for measuring damage indexes. The damage index is a physical value that is well correlated to a critical damage in a device or a structure. The mechanism proposed here utilizes elastic buckling of a thin wire and does not require any external power supply for memorizing the index. The mechanisms to detect peak strain, peak displacement, peak acceleration and cumulative deformation as examples of damage indexes are presented. Furthermore, passive and active wireless data retrieval mechanisms using electromagnetic induction are proposed. The passive wireless system is achieved by forming a closed LC circuit to oscillate at its natural frequency. The active wireless sensor can transmit the data much further than the passive system at the sacrifice of slightly complicated electric circuit for the sensor. For wireless data retrieval, no wire is needed for the sensor to supply electrical power. For the active system, electrical power is supplied to the sensor by radio waves emitted from the retrieval system. Thus, external power supply is only needed for the retrieval system when the retrieval becomes necessary. Theoretical and experimental studies to show excellent performance of the proposed sensor are presented. Finally, a prototype damage index sensor installed into a 7 storey base-isolated building is explained.
This paper presents compact dual-band WLAN filter and filter module. They were developed by embedding all of the passive lumped elements into a LTCC substrate. In order to reduce the size/volume of the filter and avoid EM parasitic couplings between the passive elements, the proposed filter was designed using a 3rd order Chebyshev circuit topology and J-inverter transformation technology. The 3rd order Chebyshev bandpass filter was firstly designed for the band-selection of the 802.11b and was then transformed using finite transmission zeros technologies. Finally, the dual-band filter was realized by adding two notch resonators to the 802.11b filter circuit for the band-selection of the 802.11a/g. The maximum insertion losses in the lower and higher passbands were better than 2.0 and 1.3 dB with minimum return losses of 15 and 14 dB, respectively. Furthermore, the filter was integrated with a diplexer to clearly split the signals between 2 and 5 GHz. The maximum insertion and minimum return losses of the fabricated module were 2.2 and 14 dB at 2.4 - 2.5 GHz, and 1.6 and 19 dB at 5.15 - 5.85 GHz, respectively. The overall volume of the fabricated filter was $2.7{\times}2.3{\times}0.59mm^3$.

With the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as personal computer in an educational building, high neutral harmonic currents have been observed. High neutral currents in three-phase four ire distribution power systems can cause tots of harmonic problems such as overloaded neutral conductors and malfunction of protective equipment. On-site measurements of harmonic currents and voltages were made and the corresponding equivalent circuits was developed. The circuit model under study was simulated numerically and graphically through the use of the software MATLAB. Simulation results verifying the effect of a single-tuned passive filter for the neutral harmonic current reduction are presented.
This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.

In this paper, a high frequency flyback type zero voltage soft switching PWM DC-DC converter using IGBTs is proposed. Effective applications for this power converter can be found in auxiliary power supplies of rolling stock transportation and electric vehicles. This power converter is basically composed of active power switches and a flyback high frequency transformer. In addition to these, passive lossless snubbers with power regeneration loops for energy recovery, consisting of a three winding auxiliary high frequency transformer, auxiliary capacitors and diodes are introduced to achieve zero voltage soft switching from light to full load conditions. Furthermore, this power converter has some advantages such as low cost circuit configuration, simple control scheme and high efficiency. Its operating principle is described and to determine circuit parameters, some practical design considerations are discussed. The effectiveness of the proposed power converter is evaluated and compared with the hard switching PWM DC-DC converter from an experimental point of view and the comparative electromagnetic conduction and radiation noise characteristics of both DC-DC power converter circuits are also depicted.
