Knowledge graph is a technology that improves search results by using semantic information based on various resources. Therefore, due to these advantages, the knowledge graph is being defined as one of the core research technologies to provide AI-based services recently. However, in the case of the knowledge graph, since the form of knowledge collected from various service domains is defined as plain text, it is very important to be able to analyze the text and understand its meaning. Recently, various lexical dictionaries have been proposed together with the knowledge graph, but since most lexical dictionaries are defined in a language other than Korean, there is a problem in that the corresponding language dictionary cannot be used when providing a Korean knowledge service. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an ontology based on the parts of speech of Korean. The proposed ontology uses 9 parts of speech in Korean to enable the interpretation of words and their semantic meaning through a semantic connection between word class and word class. We also studied various scenarios to apply the proposed ontology to vehicle services.
An auditory-perceptual rating scale has long been utilized in an evaluation procedure of Parkinsonian speech. This study attempted to investigate various variables and appropriate equal-interval rating scale for each variable. We collected speech samples from 27 patients with Parkinsonian speech disorders. A total of 25 variables and descriptions for each variable across phonatory, resonatory, and articulatory dimensions were included in the rating scale. The descriptive parts of each variable could increase the objectivity of the rating scale.
In this paper, we propose a neural network model for speech recognition. The model consists of feature extraction parts and recognition parts. The interconnection model based on ${\Delta}^2$G operator was used for frequency analysis. Two features, global feature and local feature, were extracted from this model. Recognition parts consist of global grouping stage and local grouping stage. When the input pattern was coded by slope method, the recognition rate of speakers, A and B, was 100%. When the test was performed with the data of 9 speakers, the recognition rate of 91.4% was obtained.
The aim of this study is to develop an the assessment program for the singing voice which is based on the physiological and acoustic methods. 22 sopranos, 6 mezzo sopranos, 4 tenors and 4 baritones participated to these experiments. The results measured by Visi-Pitch, spectrograph, and strobo-scope can be summarized as follows: (1) The maximum phonation time of singers must over 14 second higher with one deep inspiration (2) The parts classified by vocal range using Visi-Pitch: soprano between 167Hz $\sim$1,190Hz, mezzo soprano between 146Hz$\sim$956Hz, tenor between 75Hz$\sim$503Hz and baritone between 73 Hz and 385 Hz. (3) Longitudinal glottal size of singers decreases depending on the high-low pitch variation while lattitudinal glottal size increases depending on high-low pitch variation. (4) Well-trained singers show over 5 times the vibrato rate of untrained singers and regular pitch variation during measured periods. Vibrato's intensity do not over 3 dB. (5) Singer's formant indicates professional voice depending on the each parts: 3,207 Hz for soprano, 3,057 Hz for mezzo soprano, 2,754 Hz for tenor and 2,560 Hz for baritone.. (6) $F_1$ of singing voice is higher than that of speech while $F_2\;and\;F_3$ of singing voice are lower than those of speech.
The aims of this study were to examine the acoustic features of Korean and Japanese vowels, and to determine whether new phones that do not have counterparts in Japanese or similar phones that have counterparts improve more from learning. This study consisted of three parts. In Experiment I, a speech production test was performed to observe the acoustic features of Korean and Japanese vowels. In Experiment II, the speech production of Korean vowels produced by Koreans, advanced Japanese learners of Korean, and beginning Japanese learners of Korean was investigated. In Experiment III, a speech perception study of Korean vowels produced by the two Japanese learner groups was conducted to observe the effect of learning on acquiring L2 phones. The conclusion drawn from the study was that the similar phones produced by Japanese show more similarity with those of Koreans than new phones in terms of F1 and F2, but Japanese learners of Korean displayed more improvement in new phones from learning.
The present study examines the degree of suffix reduction that occurs when the Korean suffix [-nɨn] was attached to the root in spontaneous Seoul Korean speech. Specifically, it focuses on the degrees of reduction produced by individual speakers. The degree of reduction was assessed as the duration of the suffix [-nɨn] to clarify the continuum between the full and reduced forms. The results revealed that, first, the reduced forms of the suffix [-nɨn] were significantly distinguished from the full forms in the suffixation processes. Second, regarding parts of speech, the differences among individual speakers on the degrees of reduction were clearer when the suffix [-nɨn] was attached to verbs, rather than nouns and pronouns. Finally, the length of a root played a critical role in determining the degree of reduction of the suffix [-nɨn]. The degrees of reduction for individual speakers significantly differed when the suffix [-nɨn] was attached to two-syllable roots than three- and four-syllable roots. In conclusion, individual differences in the degrees of reduction were likely to occur when the roots are verbs and when two-syllable roots.
In this paper, we implemented a vocabulary-independent speech recognizer using the TMS320VC33 DSP. For this implementation, we had developed very small-sized recognition engine based on diphone sub-word unit, which is especially suited for embedded applications where the system resources are severely limited. The recognition accuracy of the developed recognizer with 1 mixture per state and 4 states per diphone is 94.5% when tested on frequently-used 2000 words set. The design of the hardware was focused on minimal use of parts, which results in reduced material cost. The finally developed hardware only includes a DSP, 512 Kword flash ROM and a voice codec. In porting the recognition engine to the DSP, we introduced several methods of using data and program memory efficiently and developed the versatile software protocol for host interface. Finally, we also made an evaluation board for testing the developed hardware recognition module.
The present study investigates the perception of Korean phonation types by native speakers of Aymara. Perception tests were conducted on two sets of Korean speech materials to determine correspondence between Korean and Aymara 3-way contrasts and to find out which of the consonantal and vocalic part of the syllable is more influential in the perception of Korean phonation types. A set of manipulated stimuli, as well as a set of 12 spontaneous words, were prepared for the tests. The first syllable of the 12 Korean bisyllabic words of 3 series of phonation types(Lenis, Aspirated, and Fortis) in 4 places of articulation were split into consonantal and vocalic parts. And then the two parts were combined to form 9 tokens of CV sequences respectively for each place of articulation. Native speakers of Aymara were forced to match Korean stimuli with one of the 15 Aymara words which represent 3 series of consonant types(plain, aspirated, and ejective) in 5 places of articulation(bilabial, alveolar, palatal, velar, and uvular). Results showed that the consonantal part is more influential than the vocalic part to the Aymara subjects' perception of Korean phonation types when the consonantal part is Aspirated in its phonation type, but the vocalic part is more influential than the consonantal part when the consonantal part is Lenis or Fortis in its phonation type. Response analysis showed that Aymara subjects tend to match Korean stops to Aymara ones in such a way that Lenis corresponds to aspirated, Aspirated to aspirated, and Fortis to plain.
This paper examined the intonation contours of English sentences produced by the Korean students. Thirty students participated in the speaking tasks made up of three parts: an oral interview, picture description and a conversational text reading. Their pronunciations in the parts were recorded on a minidisk. Then, two native instructors evaluated their proficiency level focusing on general intelligibility and suprasegmental aspects of the speech. Based on the results of evaluation they were divided into two groups: high and low proficiency groups. The pitch contours of three sentences produced by both the Korean students and a native speaker were compared to find any similarities and differences in the students' intonation patterns using Praat. Results showed that there was a moderate correlation in the proficiency scores of the students by the two native speakers. Secondly, students who earned high scores in the proficiency level matched better the native model. Thirdly, the high group students knew more on the pitch contour and tried to carefully realize them while fewer students in the low group answered positively on the questionnaire. In conclusion, English learners need to know the proper intonation patterns and to practice them consciously and sufficiently to realize correct intonation contours. Further studies would be desirable on the students' pronunciation focused on discourse structure.
