The experimental measurements were carried out to examine turbulent disintegration characteristics ejecting from a counter-flowing internal mixing pneumatic nozzle under variable conditions of swirl angles and air pressures. The air injection pressure was varied from 60 kPa to 180 kPa and four counter-flowing internal mixing nozzles with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled holes at swirl angle of 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, and 60$^{\circ}$to the central axis have been specially designed. The experimental results were quantitatively analyzed, focusing mainly on the comparison of turbulent atomization characteristics issuing from an internal mixing swirl nozzle. To illustrate the swirl phenomena, the distributions of mean velocities, turbulence intensities, volume flux, and SMD (Sauter Mean Diameter, or D$\sub$32/) were comparatively analyzed.
In this study, the emulsion dispersion stability of optimizing storage temperature was investigated. The system was based on oil/water (O/W) emulsions. In order to evaluate the stability, mean diameter of droplet was measured as a function of temperature with various mixed hydrophilic lipophilic balance (HLB). In addition, the correlations between phase inversion temperature (PIT) and the optimum storage temperature were probed. In this system, majority of the smallest droplet was shown at temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ below PIT. Whether the temperature was increased or decreased from the optimum, size of the droplet increased. According to the mixed HLB, the particle size and optimum storage temperature were also affected. As the concentrations of surfactant were increased, the size of particle decreased with lower optimum temperature for storage. If the surfactant (4 wt%) were mixed with HLB, the optimum storage temperature was $21^{\circ}C$ for maintaining the size of smallest droplet at 108.3 nm in diameter. At above optimum condition, increased size of particle was observed approximately 4 % increases from 108.2 nm to 112.3 nm after 600 hours. The size of particle in emulsion was maintained stably without any considerable effect of Ostwald ripening phenomena at the optimum storage temperature with low polydispersity index.

Silica particle formation and growth process including chemical reaction, coagulation and sintering was studied in a counterflow diffusion flame burner. The counterflow geometry provides a one dimensional flow field, along the stagnation point streamline, which greatly simplifies interpretation of the particle growth characteristics. $SiCl_4$ has been used as the source of silicon in hydrogen/oxygen/argon flames. The temperature profiles obtained by calculation showed a good agreement with experiment data. Using one and two dimensional sectional method, aerosol dynamics equation in a flame was solved, and these two results were compared. The two dimensional section method can consider sintering effect and growth of primary particle during synthesis, thus it showed evolution of morphology of non-spherical particles (aggregates) using surface fractal dimension. The effects of flame temperature and chemical loading on particle dynamics were studied. Geometric mean diameter based on surface area and total number concentration followed the trend of experiment results, especially, the change of diameters showed the sintering effect in high temperature environment.
We have evaluated the performances of the following six interpolation schemes used for window deformation in particle image velocimetry (PIV): the linear, quadratic, B-spline, cubic, sinc, Lagrange interpolations. Artificially generated images comprised of particles of diameter in a range $1.1{\leq}d_p\leq10.0$ pixel were investigated. Three particle diameters were selected for detailed evaluation: $d_p$=2.2, 3.3, 4.4 pixel with a constant particle concentration 0.02 $particle/pixel^2$. Two flow patterns were considered: uniform and shear flows. The mean and random errors, and the computation times of the interpolation schemes were determined and compared.
Although the measurement of oil globule size distribution is necessary to detect the process of demulsification, the reasonable methodology for its measurement has not been suggested because the solution of soymilk contains insoluble soybean particle and the protein to interfere with the detection of oil globule or oil content. The oil globule size distribution was measured by the homogeneous suspension and cumulative method under gravitational force or centrifugal force, which were modified with Stokes' low. The geometric mean diameter of oil globules in this soymilk was $033{\mu}m\;and\;031{\mu}m$ under gravitational method and centrifugal method, respectively. The differences of oil globule size distribution in the solutions emulsified by different pressures were detected by this method. The mean diameter of the solutions treated at higher pressure was shifted to smaller size and the distribution pattern of the solutions at higher pressure became more compact around the mean diameter.
The intermittent spray characteristics of a multi-hole diesel nozzle with a 2-spring nozzle holder were investigated experimentally. Without changing the total orifice exit area, the hole number of the multi-hole nozzle varied from 3 (d$\_$n/=0.42 mm) to 5 (d$\_$n/=0.32 mm). The time-resolved droplet diameters of the spray including the SMD (Saute. mean diameter) and the AMD (arithmetic mean diameter), injected intormittently from the multi-hole nozzles into still ambient ai., were measured by using a 2-D PDPA (phase Doppler particle analyze.). The 5-hole nozzle spray shows the smaller spray cone angle, the decreased SMD distributions and the small difference between the SMD and the AMD, compared with that of the 3-hole nozzle spray. From the SMD distributions with the radial distance, the spray structure can be classified into the three regions : (a) the inner region showing the high SMD distribution , (b) the mixing flow region where the shea. flow structure would be constructed : and (c) the outer region formed through the disintegration processes of the spray inner region and composed of fine droplets. Through the SMD distributions along the spray centerline, it reveals that the SMD decreases rapidly after showing the maximum value in the vicinity of the nozzle tip. The SMD remains the constant value near the Z/d$\_$n/=166 and 156.3 for the 3-hole and 5-hole nozzles, which illustrate that the disintegration processes of the 5-hole nozzle spray proceed more rapidly than that of the 3-hole nozzle spray.
Nanoparticles with unsaturated poly(hydroxyalkanoate)s (UPHAs) biosynthesized with Pseudo-monas oleovorans were prepared by spontaneous emulsification solvent diffusion method. The influence of nanoparticle formation was investigated with various experimental parameters such as sonication conditions, sol-vent, surfactant and polymer contents, etc. The physical and chemical properties of UPHAS and its nanoparticles were characterized using $^1$H- and $\^$13/C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and gel permeation chromatography. The morphology of particles was observed using scanning electron microscope and the size and distribution of nanoparticles were measured with electrophoretic light scattering spectrophotometer. The mean diameter of particles decreased with increasing sonication amplitude and time. The addition of ethanol into UPHAS chloroform solution decreased the particle size presumably due to increased solvent diffusion into water phase. The particle size increased with increased the concentration of UPHAS solution. Under the 2-4% poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution the minimum mean diameter of particles was shown. The higher degree of hydrolysis and degree of polymerization of PVA increased the mean diameter of particles.
The pressure fluctuations in a gas-solid fluidized bed has been analysed using s statistical method interpreting fluidized 냥d behavior. The performing statistical a analysis of the pressure fluctuations in a fluidized bed of 6.7cm-ID. using uniform p particle size of 115 to $1015{\mu}m$ in diameter. The fluidized gas used air(velocity 0.1~1.2m/sec) at settled bed height to diameter ratios which is LlD=l.O. Then, the pressure fluctuations measured by DPT(differantial pressure transducer). The measuring characteristic values of pressure fluctuation were the mean value and standard value, and also, it has been found that the standard deviation of the pressure fluctuations can be effectively used to predict minimum fluidizing velocity and to explain the fluidized phenomena.

Two-phase(air-solid, air-liquid droplet) turbulent round jet has been analyzed numerically using two equation turbulence model. The mean motion of suspending particles in air has been treated as the secondary fluid with virtual density and eddy viscosity. In this paper, the local mean velocity of secondary fluid is not assumed to be the same as that of the primary one. Dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy which arises because the particles can not catch up with the turbulent fluctuations of the primary fluid has been modelled by using the concept of Kolmogorov's spectral energy transfer. Numerical computations were performed for flows with different volume fraction of the dispersed phase and the diameter of particle. Results show that the total rate of turbulent energy dissipation, turbulent intensities and spreading rate of jets are reduced by the increase of volume fraction of dispersed phase. However it does not show consistent tendency with increasing the particle diameter. This investigation also shows that presence of particles in the fluid modifies the structure of the primary fluid flow significantly. Predicted velocity profiles and turbulence properties qualitatively agree with available data.
In the gasoline engine of fuel injection type, atomization of fuel droplet and its distribution has directly influenced the performance of engine and harmful emission. To investigate atomization characteristics of fuel spray, in this paper fuel spray of air-assisted injector is observed at the various initial conditions of ambient air temperature and air assisted pressure. Behavior of fuel spray is photographed with microscopic visualization system. The SMD of fuel droplet is measured with PMAS (Particle Motion Analysis System). The effect of air-assisted pressure and temperature of ambient air resulted in the decrement of SMD and its variation. Finally, It was found that It was found that from spray angle at the two-hole injector had measured $20{\pm}4$ degree the result of photographs by shadow graphy. The mean diameter of suns decreased and the of droplets increased with increasing the temperature in the spray fields by the results of PMAS measurement. It was found that the characteristics of sprays became finer by increasing the temperature of spray fields about 373K without the delivery of air-assistance.
