To develop the rehabilitation measures for rockily denuded forest lands which are widely distributed in Seoul metropolitan area, erosional characteristics of denudation should, first of all, be evaluated and analysed. As a fundamental study for developing such technical measures, the rockily denuded lands were classified into 6 types according to denudation features of the mountain land, and also movements of stone debris-and-sand on rock-exposed hillslopes were measured and analysed. The 6 basic types of denudation features include a) natural rock-outcrop-exposed land, b) stone debris-and-sand scattered land, c) stone debris-and-sand deposited land, d) coarse sand producing bare land susceptible to weathering and erosion, e) dwarfed pine growing land, and f) torrential valley susceptible to the debris slides. In the stone debris-and-sand scattered hillslopes (type b), average amount of moved-down debris reached to about 3.9 ton/ha/yr due to surface washing and slidings. In the particle size distribution of the moved-down debris, it amounts to about 25% of 10-25mm, about 15% of 5-10mm, about 24% of 2-5mm, and about 36% of less than 2mm in diameter class, respectively. The detailed experimental studies should be accomplished further more about the denudation processes including weathering, erosion and debris slides on rock-exposed hillslopes.
Objectives : In this study, Folium Perillae were examined the possibility to apply as the cosmetics natural materials. Methods : Normal skin softener containing Folium Perillae extracts was manufactured and then its physiological activities function was experimented on. And emollient lotion containing Folium Perillae extracts was manufactured and then it was left under the condition of $-10^{\circ}C,\;0^{\circ}C$, room temperature and $37^{\circ}C$ for a month. Then its stability and safety were tested. Results : The physiological activities function of the normal skin softener was almost same with the electron donating ability, SOD like activity and xanthine oxidase inhibitory effect of Folium Perillae extracts. To find the changes of emollient lotion containing Folium Perillae extracts, the emollient lotion was left under the condition of $-10^{\circ}C,\;0^{\circ}C$, room temperature and $37^{\circ}C$ for a month. Then, when the emollient lotion was observed with the naked eye, pH, viscosity and particle diameter were measured, its changes were not nearly found. Futhermore, as a result of doing patch test to identify the safety of emollient lotion containing Folium Perillae extracts, there was no stimulus on skin. Conclusions : From the above results, it was expected that the physiological activities of Folium Perillae extracts can be maintained when cosmetics containing Folium Perillae extracts are manufactured. And it was proved that Folium Perillae extracts didn't affect the change of cosmetic when they were applied to cosmetic materials. And it was concluded that emollient lotion containing Folium Perillae extracts was safe for skin.

Nanosized $TiO_2$ particles were prepared from titanium (IV) sulfate solution using base solutions at low reaction temperature ($95^{\circ}C$) and atmospheric pressure by hydrothermal precipitation method without calcination. The effects of preparation conditions, such as kind of base solutions (NaOH, $NH_4OH$, Monoethanolamine, Diethanolamine, Triethanolamine) and surfactants (CTAB, Span 20, SDBS), concentration of surfactants, temperature and pH, on the physical properties of $TiO_2$ particles have been investigated by XRD, SEM and Zeta-potential meter. Absorption area was also investigated by DRS in order to confirm the photocatalytic activity of the nanosized $TiO_2$ particles. It was turned out that, among base solutions, NaOH provides the smallest $TiO_2$ particles with excellent crystallinity. And cationic surfactant (CTAB) prepared smaller $TiO_2$ particles than any other surfactants. When CTAB is added in the concentration ratio of $Ti(SO_4)_2$:CTAB=10:1, $TiO_2$ particles with particle diameter of 5.8 nm were prepared. This is approximately 1/10 of that prepared without CTAB.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of crumb rubber recycled from used tires as a soil incorporation and topdressing materials on a trafficked Korean lawngrass‘Zenith’(Zoysia japonica). In Exp 1, incorporation treatments included three particle sizes (PS: coarse =4∼6.35 mm, medium =2∼4 mm, and One : less than 2 mm in diameter) and two incorporation rate (IR: 10 and 20%). Wear treatments were applied 30 passes per day by compactor weights being 60 kg with soccer shoes. Topdressing treatments included three PS and two topdressing depth (TD: 5 and 10 mm). Wear treatments were the same as described in Exp 1. In Exp 1, the treatment with medium PS+IR 20 resulted in the tendency to have high total clipping yield. There was no significant difference in clipping yield, turfgrass visual color, coverage, and root length among the treatments. Compared to control, tissue Zn levels increased about 6.5-fold by the treatments. The treatment with fine PS +IR 20 caused a less peak deceleration than coarse PS +IR 10. Total porosity, air-filled porosity, and capillary porosity increased with fine PS +IR 20. In Exp 2, compared to controls, however, there was a difference in turfgrass visual color after the termination of traffic treatment. There was no difference in root length. The treatment with fine PS + TD 10 resulted in the highest total clipping yield. As a result of soil physical analysis, soil penetration resistance was reduced by the treatments. The treatment with coarse PS resulted in a less peak deceleration than fine PS. In conclusion, turfgrass growth was increased by crumb rubber incorporation which enhanced soil physical properties. The crumb rubber topdressing was able to cushion the crown tissue area while still providing a smooth and uniform surface, improve overall turfgrass quality, and reduce compaction.

By Laser Through-Silicon-Via process, debris and particles occur when you are forming. Therefore the research of TSV cleaning become important to remove those particles and debris. Both chemical cleaning method that uses a surfactant and physical cleaning method that uses a brush were studied with the via of $30{\mu}m$ diameter and $100{\mu}m$ depth on the 8 inch CMOS Image Sensor wafer. On the DI water and a surfactant in mixture ratio of 2:1, debris show $73{\mu}m^2$ per $0.054mm^2$. Cleaning is superior by lower mixture ratio of DI water and surfactant. In addition, It is less than 5% of debris distribution in the laser condition changed by Laser's frequency and its speed and cleaning had no effect. In the physical cleaning, there are no crack and damage when the system condition is set by $1000{\sim}3000rpm$ strip, $50{\sim}3000rpm$ rinsing, and $200{\sim}300rpm$ brushing Therefore, debris and particles can be removed by enforced chemical method and physical method.

To fabricate a copper (Cu)-based fine conductive filler having antioxidation property, submicron silver (Ag)-coated Cu particles were fabricated and their antioxidation property was evaluated. After synthesizing the Cu particles of $0.705{\mu}m$ in average diameter by a wet-reduction process, Ag-coated Cu particles were fabricated by successive Ag plating using ethylene grycol solvent. Main process parameters in the Ag plating were the concentration of reductant (ascorbic acid), the injection rate of Ag precursor solution, and the stirring rate in mixed solution. Thus, Ag plating characteristics and the formation of separate fine pure Ag phase were observed with different combinations of process parameters. As a result, formation of the separate pure Ag phase and aggregation between Ag-coated Cu particles could be suppressed by optimization of the process parameters. The Ag-coated Cu particles which were fabricated using optimal conditions showed slight aggregation, but excellent antioxidation property. For example, the particles indicated the weight gain not exceeding 0.1% until $225^{\circ}C$ when they were heated in air at the rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$ and no weight gain until 75 min when they were heated in air at $150^{\circ}C$.

This study was conducted to investigate formaldehyde removals by silver nano-particles attached on the surface of granular activated carbon (Ag-AC) and to compare the results to those obtained with ordinary activated carbon (AC). The BET analysis showed that the overall surface area and the fraction of micropores (less than $20{\AA}$ diameter) of the Ag-AC were significantly decreased because the silver particles blocked the small pores on the surface of the Ag-AC. The formaldehyde removal capacity of the Ag-AC determined using the Freundlich isotherm was higher than that of AC. Despite the decreased BET surface area and micropore volume, the Ag-AC had the increased removal capacity for formaldehyde, presumably due to catalytic oxidation by silver nano-particles. In contrast, the adsorption intensity of the Ag-AC, estimated by 1/n in the Freundlich isotherm equation, was similar to that of the ordinary AC, indicating that the surface modification using silver nano-particles did not affect the adsorption characteristics of AC. In a column experiment, the Ag-AC also showed a longer breakthrough time than that of the AC. Simulation results using the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM) were well fitted to the breakthrough curve of formaldehyde for the ordinary AC, but the predictions showed substantial deviations from the experimental data for the Ag-AC. The discrepancy was due to the catalytic oxidation of silver nano-particles that was not incorporated in the HSDM. Consequently, a new numerical model that takes the catalytic oxidation into accounts needs to be developed to predict the combined oxidation and adsorption process more accurately.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acid etching on the surface appearance and fracture toughness of five glass ionomer cements. Five kinds of commercially available glass ionomer cements including chemical curing filling type, chemical curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, light curing tilling type and light curing lining type were used for this study. The specimens for SEM study were fabricated by treating each glass ionomer cement with either visible light curing or self curing after being inserted into a rubber mold (diameter 4mm, depth 1mm). Some of the specimens were etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 0, 15, 30, 60, go seconds, at 5 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day after mixing of powder and liquid. Unetched ones comprised the control group and the others were the experimental groups. The surface texture was examined by using scanning electron microscope at 20 kV. (S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan). The specimens for fracture toughness were fabricated by curing of each glass ionomer cement previously inserted into a metal mold for the single edge notch specimen according to the ASTME399. They were subjected to a three-point bend test after etching for 0, 30, 60, and 90 seconds at 5 minutes-, 1 hour-and 1 day-lapse after the fabrication of the specimens. The plane strain fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$) was determined by three-point bend test which was conducted with cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min using Instron universal testing machine (Model No. 1122) following seven days storage of the etched specimens under $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity condition. Following conclusions were drawn. 1. In unetched control group, crack was present, but the surface was generally smooth. 2. Deterioration of the surface appearance such as serious dissolving of gel matrix and loss of glass particles occured as the etching time was increased beyond 15 s following Immediate etching of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 3. Etching after 1 h, and 1 d reduced surface damage, 15 s, and 30s etch gave rough surface appearance without loss of glass particle of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 4. Light curing type glass ionomer cement was etched by acid, but there was no difference in surface appearances according to various waiting periods. 5. It was found that the value of plane stram fracture toughness of glass ionomer cements was highest in the light curing filling type as $1.79\;MNm^{-1.5}$ followed by the light curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, chemical curing filling type and chemical curing lining type. 6. The value of plane stram fracture toughness of the chemical curing lining type glass ionomer cement etched after 5 minutes was lower than those of the cement etched after 1 hour or day or unetched (P < 0.05). 7. Light curing glass ionomer cement showed Irregular fractured surface and chemical curing cement showed smooth fractured surface.
Natural streams meander, forming pools at the outer part of bend and riffles at the crossing. Pools are deep at a lower flow velocity, and riffles are shallow at a higher flow velocity. Attentions are being paid to pool-riffle sequences in meandering streams because pool-riffle sequences tend to increase biodiversity of the stream ecosystem. This study investigates the characteristics of distribution of bed sediment particles in the upstream reach of the Gap Stream, which is a tributary of the Geum River in Korea. The upstream part of the Gap Stream, the study reach, is a gravel-bed stream, showing a pool and three riffles due to meandering. The reach also includes pools at the upstream and downstream parts of the weir. The characteristics of bed sediment particles sampled at the wetland and in the side channel are studied, revealing that the median particle diameter in the riffle is about four times larger than that in the pool. In addition, flow simulations are carried out for ordinary discharge and design flood, and such parameters important to sediment transport as velocity, shear stress, dimensionless shear stress (or Shields number), and dimensionless shear velocity are provided to see the mobility of sediment particles in the pool-riffle sequence.
From August to October 1998, over 60% mortality of cultured striped beakperch Oplegnathus fasciatus was occurred in net cages along the southern coast of Korea. Moribund fish showed some clinical signs of lethargic behavior, dark coloration or decoloration, severe gill anemia and enlargement of spleen. Also enlarged basophilic cells showing Feulgen -positive reaction were observed in the tissue section of spleen, kidney, liver and heart of the diseased fish. GF cells inoculated with spleen homogenate of diseased fish produced cytopathic effect of enlarged and rounded cells, therefore the causative virus was isolated from diseased fish. Striped beakperch fingerlings intraperitoneally inoculated with the causative virus ($10^4TCID_{50}$/0.1 ml) revealed symptoms similar to those of naturally infected fish and died from 7 to 14 days post injection. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the causative virus was enveloped icosahedral particle with 120~130 nm in diameter. PCR products of the expected size (500 bp) were amplified with a primer set based on the ATPase gene of RSIV(red sea bream iridovirus) using template DNAs which were extracted from the spleen of diseased fish and GF cells inoculated with the causative virus. According to the analysis of nucleotide sequence of these PCR products, the sequence from ATPase cDNA gene of the causative virus showed 95% homology with that of RSIV. These results indicate that the mass mortality in the cultured striped beakperch was caused by the infection of iridovirus similar to RSIV.
