Purpose: Complete release of the transverse carpal ligament (TCL) is accepted as the standard treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). However, loss of grip and pinch power are reported in some patients after complete release of the TCL. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of complete versus partial carpal tunnel release by using the inching technique. Methods: Nineteen patients (a total of 27 hands) who each had a confirmed diagnosis of CTS were selected from September 2002 to February 2003. The cases were divided into three groups(mild, moderate and severe) based on preoperative electrodiagnostic studies. The patients with partial carpal tunnel syndrome were classified into the mild or moderate groups, while patients with complete carpal tunnel syndrome were classified into the moderate or severe groups. Patient oriented data (functional and symptomatic) were collected and electrophysiologic studies were undertaken preoperatively and postoperatively(on the 2nd week, 1st month, 3rd month and 6th month after surgery). Results: In this study, the mild and moderate groups showed both good functional and symptomatic results and improvements in electrophysiologic studies. Conclusion: Carpal tunnel syndrome patients classified into mild or moderate groups based on nerve conduction studies, and whose precise compression sites were pinpointed using the inching technique, can be treated by partial carpal tunnel release.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of occlusal stability to identify action mechanisms of mouthguards, known to have a modulatory effect on limb muscle function. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This study included 20 male subjects to perform the isokinetic muscle tests and the Wingate anaerobic power test on both knee joints under five closed-mouth conditions: without or with 4 types of mouthguards with thickness of 2 mm based on premolar area: (1) full-coverage, (2) anterior partial-coverage, (3) right posterior partial-coverage, and (4) left posterior partial-coverage. The obtained results were subjected to One-way ANOVA with repeated measures, followed by post hoc test of the contrast method (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. There was no significant difference between the closed position with and without a full-coverage mouthguard in all variables. However, significant differences were observed between with and without a partial-coverage mouthguard in muscular endurance during extension of the left knee, muscular power and endurance during flexion of the right knee. Additionally, significant differences were found between occlusal states with full- and partial-coverage mouthguards in muscular power and endurance during extension of the left knee. CONCLUSION. These findings indicate the elevation of vertical dimension by 2 mm or the inducement of occlusal stability had little effect on isokinetic muscle strength and anaerobic performance, while uneven distribution of occlusal force might have some positive effects.
PURPOSE. Conventional resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) are usually made with a two-retainer design. Unlike conventional RBFPDs, cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (Cantilever RBFPDs) are, for their part, made with a single-retainer design. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of tooth surface preparation on the bond strength of zirconia cantilever single-retainer RBFPDs. The objective is to evaluate the shear bond strength of these single-retainer RBFPDs bonded on 3 different amount of tooth surface preparation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty extracted bovine incisors were categorized to 3 groups (n=10), with different amounts of tooth surface preparations. Teeth were restored with single-retainer RBFPDs with different retainer surfaces: large retainer of $32mm^2$; medium retainer of $22mm^2$; no retainer and only a proximal connecting box of $12mm^2$. All RBFPDs were made of zirconia and were bonded using an adhesive system without adhesive capacity. Shear forces were applied to these restorations until debonding. RESULTS. Mean shear bond strength values for the groups I, II, and II were $2.39{\pm}0.53MPa$, $3.13{\pm}0.69MPa$, and $5.40{\pm}0.96MPa$, respectively. Statistical analyses were performed using a one-way ANOVA test with Bonferroni post-hoc test, at a significance level of 0.001. Failure modes were observed and showed a 100% adhesive fracture. CONCLUSION. It can be concluded that the preparation of large tooth surface preparation might be irrelevant. For zirconia single-retainer RBFPD, only the preparation of a proximal connecting box seems to be a reliable and minimally invasive approach. The differences are statistically significant.

Background The introduction of the partial second toe pulp free flap has enabled superior aesthetic and functional results for fingertip reconstruction in adults. Children undergoing fingertip amputation for various reasons have limited options for reconstruction. Conventional treatment could shorten the finger, leading to poor cosmesis and function. We report 18 years of our experiences with fingertip reconstruction using partial second toe pulp free flaps in patients in early childhood. Methods Medical charts of children who had undergone fingertip reconstruction using partial second toe pulp free flaps from 2001 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The surgical procedures were identical to those for adults, except for the usage of 11-0 nylon sutures. Patients' demographic data, vessel size, flap dimensions, length of the distal phalanx, and functional outcomes over the course of long-term follow-up were documented. The statistical analysis was performed with the Student t-test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results Eighteen toe pulp flaps in 17 patients (mean age, 3.0 years) were identified. All the flaps survived without any major complications. In long-term follow-up, the flap-covered distal phalanges showed growth in line with regular development. There was no donor-site morbidity, and all children adapted to daily life without any problems. In two-point discrimination tests, the fingertip sensation recovered to almost the same level as that in the contralateral finger. Conclusions Partial second toe pulp free flaps are an excellent option for fingertip reconstruction in young children, as well as in adults.
Daily milk yields on test days were estimated using morning or afternoon partial milk yields collected by official agencies and the accuracy of the estimates was determined. Test-day data for milk yields consisted of 3,156,734 records of AM/PM partial milking measurements of 255,437 milking Holstein cows from 3,708 farms collected from December 2008 to April 2013. A linear regression model (LRM) was applied to estimate daily milk yields using alternate AM/PM milk yield records within lactation stages, milking intervals, and parities on every daily milk yield. The alternate statistical approach was a non-linear hierarchical model (NHM) in which Brody's growth function was implemented by reflecting an animal's physiological milk production cycle. When compared with LRM, daily milk yields predicted by the NHM were assumed to be functionally related to day in milk (or lactation) stage, milking intervals, and partial milk yields. Since the results were in terms of accuracies based on comparisons of different statistical models, accuracies of estimates of daily milk yields by NHM were close to those determined by the LRM. The average of these accuracies was 0.94 for AM partial milk yields and 0.93 for PM partial milk yields for first calving cows. However, the accuracies of AM/PM milk yield estimations from cows under a calving stage higher than the first parity were 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. Correlations between the estimated daily milk yields and the actual daily milk yields ranged from 0.96~0.98. These accuracies were lower for unbalanced AM/PM milking intervals and the first calving cows. Overall, prediction of daily milk yields by NHM would be more appropriate than by LRM due to its flexibility under different milk yield-related circumstances, which provides an idea of the functional relationship between milking intervals and days in milk with daily milk yields from statistical viewpoints.
Background: Atelocollagen has been studied for restoration of rotator cuff tendon. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the clinical outcome of ultrasound-guided atelocollagen injection in an outpatient clinic for patients with partial rotator cuff tear. Methods: We recruited 42 outpatients who visited our hospital from May 2019 to September 2019. Atelocollagen injection was performed in patients with partial rotator cuff tear diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), Constant, Korean Shoulder Score (KSS) and Simple Shoulder Test (SST) scores, and range of motion were assessed before injection and after 2 months. Statistically, we analyzed the clinical results using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Finally, 15 patients were enrolled for analysis. There was no significant difference between pre- and post-injection in terms of range of motion, ASES (57.0 vs. 60.4), Constant (56.4 vs. 58.9), KSS (64.6 vs. 68.5), and pain-visual analog scale (4.2 vs. 3.7), except function-visual analog scale (F-VAS; 6.3 vs. 7.1) and SST (6.6 vs. 6.9). A significant difference was found in SST (P=0.046) and F-VAS (P=0.009). According to the ultrasound results at 2 months, we found hyperechoic materials in three of seven patients. The most common complication of atelocollagen injection was post-injection pain (53%, 8/15). Conclusions: Ultrasound-guided atelocollagen injection for partial rotator cuff tear showed no significant change in terms of clinical outcomes, except for F-vas and SST score. Tendon regeneration was not clear due to the remnants of atelocollagen present at 2-month follow-up ultrasound. There seems to be alarming post-injection pain for 2 to 3 days in the patients who received atelocollagen injection in an outpatient clinic.

Self-Boring Pressuremeter Test(SBPT) is known to be the most effective in-situ test method which can reliably determine consolidation characteristics as well as deformation modules and untrained shear strength. In order to derive the coefficient of consolidation using SBPT results it is necessary to obtain the dissipation behavior from the pore pressure change with time during constant radial strain(generally 10%) and to derive the reliable time factor(Τ) from the analytical method which considers the real in-situ conditions. As previous studies on time factor are based on the assumptions of plane strain condition that the membrane of SBP is infinite, of untrained condition during the expansion of the probe and of elastic soil behavior during consolidation, these analyses can't consider the real boundary conditions and the real soil behaviour. In this study, consolidation analysis similar to real in-situ conditions including test procedure is conducted using finite element program which employs MCC model and Biot theory. Time factor considering the effects of finite membrane length, the total pressure change during consolidation and partial drainage is proposed and compared with previous results.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the young children's creative trait and personality affecting their learning readiness. The participants were 131 young children in kindergartens or nursery schools and their mothers from Seoul, Gyeonggi and Chungnam province. The instruments were the Korea Learning Readiness Test, Young Children's Creative Traits Test, and Young Children's Personality Test. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson's partial correlation, stepwise multiple regression, and Scheff$\'{e}$ test by SPSS PC(version17.0) program. The results were as follows. Firstly, there were no significant differences in young children's learning readiness, creative trait and personality by children's age, location, school type, father's age, mother's educational level and mother's job type, while there were significant differences in the creative trait and the subfactor scores of personality by children's sex, father's educational level and parents' job type. Secondly, there was a positive partial correlation(r = .20~.24) between young children's learning readiness and creative trait, while there were no correlations between their learning readiness and personality and between their personality and creative trait. Thirdly, cognitive factor of creative trait and father's educational level did not effectively explain the children's learning readiness.
We studied phosphorus doping effect on the epitaxial growth of $Si_{1-x}Ge_{x}$ film with high Ge fraction on Si substates at 550.deg. C by LPCVD. In a low $Ph_{3}$ partial pressure region such as below 1.25 mPa, the phosphorus dopant concentration increased linearly with increasing $PH_{3}$ partial pressure while the deposition rate and the Ge fraction were constant. In a higher $PH_{3}$ partial pressure region, the phosphorus dopant concentration and the deposition rate decreased, while the Ge fraction slightly increased. The deposition arate and the Ge fraction increased with increasing $GeH_{4}$ partial pressure while the phophours dopant concentration decreased. But the increasing rate of Ge fraction with incrasing $PH_{3}$ partial pressure was reduced at a high $GeH_{4}$ partial pressure. According to test results, it suggests that high surface coverage of phosphorus atoms suppress both the $SiH_{4}$ adsorption/reasction and the $GeH_{4}$ adsorption/reaction on the surfaces, and the effect is more stronger on $SiH_{4}$ than on $GeH_{4}$. In a higher $PH_{3}$ partial pressure region, the epitaxial growth is largely controlled by surface coverage effect of phosphorus atoms. The phosphorus surface coverage was slimited at a high $GeH_{4}$ partial pressure because adsorbed Ge atoms effectively suppresses the adsorption of phosphorus atoms.

This paper described the measurement technology to analyze the partial discharge characteristics for long term aging of insulations. This system was consisted of high voltage generation and measurement part, PD detection part, digital conversion and signal processing part. We used the VXI system for digital conversion and signal processing part. In the digital conversion part, we studied the error of partial discharge magnitude and memory capacity for reading digital signal with the sampling rate. In the signal processing part, we showed the program algorithm to count pulses and read peak values of partial discharge. The allowable minimum sampling rate of digizer was decided to 250kS/s through analyzing test. We confirmed that this system was very useful in the study of $\phi-q-n$ characteristics of long term PD experiments with specimens being consisted of internal void defects and CIGRE II electrodes.
