  • A variety of diagnostic tests are widely applied in the field in industry to evaluate the condition of high voltage (HV) motor stator insulation. In this paper, the influence of temperature on the stator insulation diagnostic tests such as the insulation resistance, AC current, dissipation factor, and partial discharge measurements are studied and reported. The tests are performed with the HV motor stator winding temperature set between $40^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ in $10^{\circ}C$ intervals. It is shown that the AC current, dissipation factor, and partial discharge magnitude steadily increase with temperature, which suggests that temperature must be taken into account in the interpretation of the test results.

  • High Temperature Superconductor power cable systems are being developed actively to solve the problem of increasing power demand. With increases in the unit length of the High Temperature Superconductor power cable, it is necessary to develop highly efficient and reliable cryogenic pumps to transport the coolant over long distances. Generally, to obtain a high degree of efficiency, the cryogenic pump requires a high pressure rise with a low flow rate, and a partial emission type pump is appropriate considering its low specific speed, which is different from the conventional centrifugal type, full emission type. This paper describes the design of a partial emission pump to circulate subcooled liquid nitrogen. It consists of an impeller, a circular case and a diffuser. The conventional pump and the partial emission pump have different features in the impeller and the discharge flow passage. The partial emission pump uses an impeller with straight radial blades. The emission of working fluid does not occur continuously from all of the impeller channels, and the diffuser allows the flow only from a part of the impeller channels. As the area of the diffuser increases gradually, it converts the dynamic pressure into static pressure while minimizing the loss of total pressure. We used the known numerical method for the optimum design process and made a CFD analysis to verify the theoretical performance.

  • Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ powders were synthesized by the partial oxalate method and the modified partial oxalate method, where the difference between the two is the use of pre-reacted (Zr,Ti)$O_2$ in the former method. When compared with conventional mixed oxide method, calcination temperature can be reduced to less than $700^{\circ}C$ by both partial oxalate methods, and the resulting particle size was finer and more uniform. Using partial oxalate-derived PZT powders, sintering temperatures can also be reduced as low as $950^{\circ}C$ without sacrificing desired dielectric and piezoelectric properties, such as relative permittivity, electromechanical coupling factor, and piezoelectric coefficient. Two partial oxalate methods yield ceramics with almost the same physical and electrical properties, so that the step of producing ZTO powder does not seem to be necessary.

  • The NdBaCuO superconductor samples were zone-melted in low oxygen partial pressure (1%O$_2$+99%Ar). The zone-melting temperature was decreased about 12$0^{\circ}C$ film 1,06$0^{\circ}C$, the zone-melting temperature in air. Thus the loss of liquid phase (BaCuO$_2$ and CuO) was reduced during: the zone-melting process. The content of non-superconducting phase Nd422 in zone-melted NdBaCuO samples was clearly decreased and, therefore, the substitution of Nd for Ba was occurred. The superconductivity of zone-melted Nd$_{1+x}$Ba$_{2-x}$Cu$_3$O$_{y}$ prepared under low oxygen partial pressure was distinctively improved.d.d.d.

  • In this paper, a high-temperature superconductor(HTS) current lead operating in current sharing mode is described. The minimum heat dissipation and the optimum safety factor(cross-sectional area) is obtained analytically for partial current sharing HTS leads. It is assumed that the current lead is in conduction cooled state, and the sheath material is the alloy of silver and gold. The reduced cross-sectional area results partial current sharing state, and consequently reduces conduction heat transfer, but the Joule heat generation is increased. The optimized HTS current lead is different from the conventional copper leads. In the copper leads, the minimum heat dissipation is obtained for the zero gradient of temperature at warm end. However, the temperature gradient at warm end is not zero when the HTS lead operates at minimum dissipation state.

  • Adsorption characteristics of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) by activated carbon fiber(ACF) were investigated using a continuous system for benzene, toluene, xylene(BTX) generation. Studied characteristics for adsorption were equilibrium capacity, accumulative adsorption, and breakthrough curve. Operating variables were adsorption temperature(25~45$^{\circ}C$) and partial pressure(1.2~12 mmHg) of BTX. The experimental results show that the adsorption equilibrium capacity increases with increasing partial pressure of BTX and decreases with increasing temperature. It was also found that the break point was decreased with increasing partial pressure, temperature and gas flow rate due to an effect of mass transfer of adsorbate.

  • The effects of sintering temperature and oxygen partial pressure on the electromagnetic properties of Mn-Zn ferrites were investigated. The grain increased with increasing temperature. The power loss at 100 kHz was decreased, while the power loss at 500 kHz was increased as the grain size increased with sintering temperature. Sintering with low oxygen partial pressure at 115$0^{\circ}C$ resulted in high density and initial permeability, and decreased the power loss at 100 kHz and 500 kHz. The oxygen partial pressure lower than 10-2 atm. during heating, significantly suppressed the hysteresis loss. However, the oxygen activity did not affect the grain size of sintered cores.

  • This paper reports an analysis of self-pressurization in a closed cryogenic liquid storage system and its comparison with experimental data using liquid nitrogen. Partial equilibrium model(PEM), revised thermodynamic analysis of homogeneous model, has been applied for the pressurization in a closed tank. The vapor and liquid bulk temperature and the liquid-vapor interface temperature are separately calculated as their own representative values in this analysis. The analysis results of the partial equilibrium model are compared with the experimental data and other preceding homogeneous temperature models for validation.
