  • Within the optimization field, addressing the intricate posed by fluidic pressure loads on functionally graded structures with frequency-related designs is a kind of complex design challenges. This paper thus introduces an innovative density-based topology optimization strategy for frequency-constraint functionally graded structures incorporating Darcy's law and a drainage term. It ensures consistent treatment of design-dependent fluidic pressure loads to frequency-related structures that dynamically adjust their direction and location throughout the design evolution. The porosity of each finite element, coupled with its drainage term, is intricately linked to its density variable through a Heaviside function, ensuring a seamless transition between solid and void phases. A design-specific pressure field is established by employing Darcy's law, and the associated partial differential equation is solved using finite element analysis. Subsequently, this pressure field is utilized to ascertain consistent nodal loads, enabling an efficient evaluation of load sensitivities through the adjoint-variable method. Moreover, this novel approach incorporates load-dependent structures, frequency constraints, functionally graded material models, and polygonal meshes, expanding its applicability and flexibility to a broader range of engineering scenarios. The proposed methodology's effectiveness and robustness are demonstrated through numerical examples, including fluidic pressure-loaded frequency-constraint structures undergoing small deformations, where compliance is minimized for structures optimized within specified resource constraints.

  • This paper presents a dual-algorithm search method (GWO-GSO) combining grey wolf optimization (GWO) and golden-section optimization (GSO) to realize maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) systems. First, a modified grey wolf optimization (MGWO) is activated for the global search. In conventional GWO, wolf leaders possess the same impact on decision-making. In this paper, the decision weights of wolf leaders are automatically adjusted with hunting progression, which is conducive to accelerating hunting. At the later stage, the algorithm is switched to GSO for the local search, which play a critical role in avoiding unnecessary search and reducing the tracking time. Additionally, a novel restart judgment based on the quasi-slope of the power-voltage curve is introduced to enhance the reliability of MPPT systems. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can track the global maximum power point (MPP) swiftly and reliably with higher accuracy under various conditions.

  • In this paper, it is covered in detail the process of generating structural alternatives with geometry change and its optimization by StrAuto. The main roof structure of the Exhibition Center is modelled parametrically and the optimal alt is derived by observing volume changes according to geometry change of main roof truss. Existing studies performed optimization process through sections and properties due to the limitations of shape change, but this study have meaning of performing the optimization with geometry changes which is the most critical skills of StrAuto. By the process of securing a sufficient margin by geometry changes and reducing volume with the optimization of sections, despite of a partial optimization of large space structure, it could be reduced by 11.7% of the total volume.

  • Mid-course trajectory of the missiles equipped with seeker should be designed to detect target within FOV of seeker and to maximize the maneuverability at the point of transition to terminal guidance phase. Because the trajectory optimization problems are generally hard to obtain the analytic solutions due to its own nonlinearity with several constraints, the various numerical methods have been presented so far. In this paper, mid-course trajectory optimization problem for boost-glide missiles is calculated by using SOCP (Second-Order Cone Programming) which is one of convex optimization methods. At first, control variable augmentation scheme with a control constraint is suggested to reduce state variables of missile dynamics. And it is reformulated using a normalized time approach to cope with a free final time problem and boost time problem. Then, partial linearization and lossless convexification are used to convexify dynamic equation and control constraint, respectively. Finally, the results of the proposed method are compared with those of state-of-the-art nonlinear optimization method for verification.

  • A lot of efforts have been focused on the optimization of PIT parameters for Bi-2223/Ag wire. In this paper, initial annealing of Bi-2223/Ag wire to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic from Bi-2212 tetragonal Precursor was investigated. This initial annealing step at low oxygen partial pressure were to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic structure and to reduce the formation of second phases at superconducting wire. However Bi-2223 Phases were appeared at higher annealing temperature. Critical currents(Je) of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were sintered at low oxygen Partial pressure were higher than that of the wires sintered at atmosphere condition. In order to investigate the effect of rolling reduction ratio, Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes were rolled with different reduction ratio. There were no clear difference of Je and filaments shape with various rolling reduction ratio.

  • In this study, one dimensional aerodynamic and structural study of a partial admission turbo pump turbine was performed. A turbine consists of a nozzle, rotor, outlet guide vanes. The aerodynamic characteristics of each component was derived from the governing equation and validated from the CFD calculations. One-dimensional basic design such as velocity triangles was conducted from the mean line analysis and modified from the 2-D and 3-D CFD analysis. The blade profile was determined by the CFD optimization. The thermal stress analysis and structural analysis are needed to be studied in the next design stage.

  • This paper investigates the design using wind-moment method for semi-rigid un-braced steel frames bending on weak axis. A limiting sway method has been proposed to reduce the frame sway. Allowance for steel section optimization between moment of inertia on minor axis column and major axis beam was used in conjunction with slope-deflection analysis to derive equations for optimum design in the proposed method. A series of un-braced steel frames comprised of two, four, and six bays ranging in height of two and four storey were studied on minor axis framing. The frames were designed for minimum gravity load in conjunction with maximum wind load and vice-versa. The accuracy of the design equation was found to be in good agreement with linear elastic computer analysis up to second order analysis. The study concluded that the adoption of wind-moment method and the proposed limiting sway method for semi-rigid steel frame bending on weak axis should be restricted to low-rise frames not more than four storey.

  • In this paper, we propose a constrained optimization model for conjoint analysis (a preference decomposition technique) to improve parameter estimation by restricting the relative importance of the attributes to an extent as decided by the respondents. Quite simply, respondents are asked to provide some pairwise attribute comparisons that are then incorporated as additional constraints in a linear programming model that estimates the partial preference values. This data collection method is typical in the analytic hierarchy process. Results of a simulation study show the new model can improve the predictive accuracy in partial value estimation by ordinal east squares (OLS) regression.

  • The parameters for an empirical net atomic charge calculation method, Modified Partial Equalization of Orbital Electronegativity (MPEOE), were determined for the atoms in organosilicon compounds and zeolites. For the organosilicon family, the empirical parameters were determined by introducing both experimental and ab initio observables as constraints, these are the experimental and ab initio dipole moments, and the ab initio electrostatic potential of the organosilicon molecules. The Mulliken population was also introduced though it is not a quantum mechanical observable. For the parameter optimization of the atoms in the aluminosilicates, the dipole moments and the electrostatic potentials which calculated from the 6-31G** ab initio wave function were used as constraints. The empirically calculated atomic charges of the organosilicons could reproduce both the experimental and the ab inito dipole moments well. The empirical atomic charges of the aluminosilicates could reproduce the ab initio electrostatic potentials well also.
