  • Background: This study constructed a partial-least-square path-modeling (PLS-PM) model and found the pathway by which the postsurgical vertical dimension (VD) affects the extent of the final mandibular setback on the B point at the posttreatment stage for the skeletal class III surgery-first approach (SFA). Methods: This study re-analyzed the data from the retrospective study by Lee et al. on 40 patients with skeletal class III bimaxillary SFA. Variables were obtained from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)-generated cephalograms. Authors investigated all variables at each time point to build a PLS-PM model to verify the effect of the VD on the final setback of the mandible. Results: From PLS-PM, an increase in $VD_{10}$ was found to decrease the absolute value of the final setback amount of the mandible, which reflects the postsurgical physiological responses to both surgery and orthodontic treatment, which, in turn, can be interpreted as an increase in postoperative mandibular changes. Conclusions: To resolve the issue of collinear cephalometric data, the present study adopted PLS-PM to assess the orthodontic treatment. From PLS-PM, it was able to summarize the effect of increased postsurgery occlusal vertical dimension on the increased changeability of the B point position at the posttreatment stage.

  • Our objective was to evaluate the potential of near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy to determine the salt content of mayonnaise. The calibration equation for salt developed using partial least square regression was compared with conventional method. 100 samples for calibration set and 40 samples for validation set were used. The multiple correlation coefficient was 0.946 and standard error of prediction was 0.017, when calibration equation was applied to validation set. Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy method for determining salt content of mayonnaise appears quite satisfactory to evaluate nondestructively.

  • The aim of this study is to empirically examine the influence of resource, differentiation advantage, organicity of organization on export performance. Beside this study examines the moderated effect of organicity of organization. To achieve the aim, the research framework has been developed with resources factors divided into two categories as financial and human resource factors, differentiation advantage, organicity of organization and export performance. Eight hypotheses have been tested on 377 export firm using PLS(Partial Least Square). Research findings suggest that both of resource factors influence positively on differentiation advantage. Also, differentiation advantage and organicity of organization have positive effects on export performance. About the moderated effect, the organicity of organization has a moderated effect to financial resource on the differentiation advantage and the differentiation advantage on export performance. But organicity of oaganization do not has a moderated impact to differentiation advantage on export performance.

  • In the rapidly changing business environment, the intention to start a new business is strengthening. In this study, in order to confirm the effect on the entrepreneurial intention, the relationship and the effect among technical capability, and job satisfaction, and entrepreneurship, which are the second order factor consisting of risk taking, desire for achievement, and innovativeness, on entrepreneurial intention were analyzed to identify the effect of business intentions from the perspective of knowledge management.. To this end, the proposed research model was statistically verified using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model. Under analysis, survey data were collected online for 280 employees currently in the workplace, and the research model was empirically analyzed through the structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that all the suggested variables had a significant effect on the entrepreneurial intention, and that job satisfaction had a negative moderating effect on entrepreneurial intention by interacting with entrepreneurship. The results of this study are expected to provide practical and theoretical implications from a knowledge management perspective.

  • This study evaluated the sensory characteristics of sauerkraut prepared by adding 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5% (w/w) sea salt to cabbage. The quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA) and acceptance test of sauerkraut were determined for each salt concentration, and the principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least square regression (PLSR) analysis were performed to confirm the correlation between each factor. Results of the QDA determined 14 descriptive terms; furthermore, brightness and yellowness of appearance and the sour, salty, and bitter flavors differed significantly according to the salt concentration. Results from the PCA explained 22.56% PC1 and 65.34% PC2 of the total variation obtained. Sauerkraut prepared using 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% sea salt had high brightness, moistness, sour odor, green odor, sour flavor, carbonation, hardness, chewiness, and crispness, whereas sauerkraut prepared with 2.0 and 2.5% sea salt had high yellowness, glossiness, salty flavor, sweet flavor, and bitter flavor. Hierarchical cluster analysis classified the products into two clusters: sauerkraut of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5%, and sauerkraut of 2.0 and 2.5%. Results of PLSR determined that sauerkraut of 1.0 and 1.5% were the closest to texture, taste, and overall acceptance. We, therefore, conclude that sauerkrauts prepared using 1.0 and 1.5% sea salt have excellent characteristics in appearance, taste, and texture.

  • Objective: The adulteration of raw beef (BMr) with dog meat (DMr) and pork (PMr) becomes a serious problem because it is associated with halal status, quality, and safety of meats. This research aimed to develop an effective authentication method to detect non-halal meats (dog meat and pork) in beef using metabolomics approach. Methods: Liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) using untargeted approach combined with chemometrics was applied for analysis non-halal meats in BMr. Results: The untargeted metabolomics approach successfully identified various metabolites in BMr DMr, PMr, and their mixtures. The discrimination and classification between authentic BMr and those adulterated with DMr and PMr were successfully determined using partial least square-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) with high accuracy. All BMr samples containing non-halal meats could be differentiated from authentic BMr. A number of discriminating metabolites with potential as biomarkers to discriminate BMr in the mixtures with DMr and PMr could be identified from the analysis of variable importance for projection value. Partial least square (PLS) and orthogonal PLS (OPLS) regression using discriminating metabolites showed high accuracy (R2 >0.990) and high precision (both RMSEC and RMSEE <5%) in predicting the concentration of DMr and PMr present in beef indicating that the discriminating metabolites were good predictors. The developed untargeted LC-HRMS metabolomics and chemometrics successfully identified non-halal meats adulteration (DMr and PMr) in beef with high sensitivity up to 0.1% (w/w). Conclusion: A combination of LC-HRMS untargeted metabolomic and chemometrics promises to be an effective analytical technique for halal authenticity testing of meats. This method could be further standardized and proposed as a method for halal authentication of meats.
