Experimental investigation into the behaviour of half-scale brick masonry panels were conducted under cyclic loading normal to the bed joint and parallel to the bed joint. For each cycle, full reloading was performed with the cycle peaks coinciding approximately with the envelope curve. Unloading, however, was carried out fully to zero stress level and partially to two different stress levels of 25 percent and 50 percent of peak stress. Stability point limit exhibits a unique stress-strain curve for full unloading but it could not be established for partial unloading. Common point limit was established for all unloading-reloading patterns considered, but its location depends on the stress level at which unloading is carried to. Common point curves were found to follow an exponential formula, while residual strains versus envelope strains can be expressed by a polynomial function of a single term. The relation between residual strain and envelope strain can be used to determine the stress level at which deterioration due to cyclic loading began.
During the period from February to March, 1984, we employed a partial left heart bypass [left atrium to ascending aorta] in 2 patients who could not weaned from cardiopulmonary bypass with inotropic agents and cardiac pacing after coronary bypass surgery. These two patients showed significant improvement in ventricular function 18 to 47 hours after inserting the left heart bypass and were able to wean from the left heart bypass under using inotropic agents. Two patients died of multiple organ failures 11 days and 15 days postoperatively. These results indicate that early institution of left heart bypass in ventricular failure patients after open heart surgery can provide satisfactory long-term result.
The effect of Mn and Nb additions on the electrical properties of BaTiO$_3$ has been studied by means of equilibrium electrical conductivity as a function of temperature, oxygen partial pressure(Po$_2$) and composition. If the manganese ion is added to the normal Ti site, i.e. BaTi$_{1-x}Mn_xO_{\delta-6}$, the equilibrium conductivity shows strong evidence of acceptor-doped behavior. The conductivity minimum, corresponding to the transition from oxygen excess, p-type behavior to oxygen deficient, n-type behavior with decreasing Po$_2$, is displaced to lower Po$_2$ and is broadened and flattened. The partial replacement of Mn ion with Nb decreases the acceptor-doped effect and the total replacement exhibits a typical donor-doped behavior. It was confirmed that unlike undoped or other acceptor-doped behavior. It was confirmed that unlike undoped or other acceptor-doped samples, for the p-type region, the electrical conductivity follows the 1/6th power dependence of oxygen partial pressure.
A novel technique has been proposed and related experimental works have been performed in order to detect the partial discharges and the location of the possible defects introduced into the Gas Insulated Switchgear. For this purpose, a prototype HY Pockels sensor has been developed and then employed in order to investigate its field applicability for finding the location of the defects using a 170kV GIS mock-up. Our proposed sensor enables us to measure the electric field variation due to the PD occurrence. In addition, the different PD patterns are observed, which might be dependant on the location and the distance of the sensor with respect to the PD source. Throughout this work, its linear response has been proved to be admissible as a function of the applied voltage. And also the position of the PD source might be distinguished by comparing the PD patterns.

In order to develop reliable on-site partial discharge (PD) pattern recognition algorithm, we introduce Type-2 Fuzzy Neural Networks (T2FNNs) optimized by means of Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). T2FNNs exploit Type-2 fuzzy sets which have a characteristic of robustness in the diverse area of intelligence systems. Considering the on-site situation where it is not easy to obtain voltage phases to be used for PRPDA (Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis), the PD data sets measured in the laboratory were artificially changed into data sets with shifted voltage phases and added noise in order to test the proposed algorithm. Also, the results obtained by the proposed algorithm were compared with that of conventional Neural Networks(NNs) as well as the existing Radial Basis Function Neural Networks (RBFNNs). The T2FNNs proposed in this study were appeared to have better performance when compared to conventional NNs and RBFNNs.
In this paper, we propose a class of meshless collocation approaches for the solution of time dependent partial differential algebraic equations (PDAEs) in terms of a radial basis function interpolation numerical scheme. Kansa's method and the Hermite collocation method (HCM) for PDAEs are given. A sensitivity analysis of the solutions from different shape parameter c is obtained by numerical experiments. With use of the random collocation points, we have obtain the more accurate solution by the methods than those by the finite difference method for the PDAEs with index-2, i.e, we avoid the influence from an index jump of PDAEs in some degree. Several numerical experiments show that the methods are efficient.

The overall objective of fitting removable partial dentures at initial placement is to ensure that the patient is given the best possible start with the new prostheses. This may be achieved by checking that: (1) final inspection of the prosthesis, (2) seating of the RPD framework, (3) evaluation of denture base adaptation, (4) assessment of denture base peripheral extensions, (5) occlusal adjustment, (6) remounting the prosthesis, and (7) instructions to the patient.
A new dielectric test on main relays of electric traction vehicles, the partial discharge(PD) test, is proposed. The PD test will not affect the insulation performance of specimen during the test and provide much more detailed information on insulation, the types of defects, and so on. Insulation performance of relays is estimated by discharge inception voltage(DIV), discharge extinction voltage (DEV), and apparent charge as a function of test voltage and time. Three main relays of different manufacturing date were estimated by applying AC voltage with three patterns in ranges of $0{\sim}1,200[V]$. From the results, we could estimate insulation state and which types of defects exist in them.

This paper shows results on the application of optical fiber sensors(OFS) for locations of ultrasonic signals in silicon insulating oil. The OFS system based on the principle of Sagnac interferometry has been designed and established for this work. The hollowed cylindrical mandrel wound by single mode optical fiber was used as a sensing component and ultrasonic signals which simulate the partial discharge In the oil have been generated by PZT actuator operated with function generator. The experimental results shows that the OFS has a excellent performance for the PD location with resolutions less than 1$^{\circ}C$ error range in the miniature insulating oil tank.

In this paper, the effect of absolute values on the behavior of functions f in the spaces $\mathcal{Q}_K$ is investigated. It is clear that $g{\in}\mathcal{Q}_K({\partial}{\mathbb{D}}){\Rightarrow}{\mid}g{\mid}{\in}\mathcal{Q}_K({\partial}{\mathbb{D}})$, but the converse is not always true. For f in the Hardy space $H^2$, we give a condition involving the modulus of the function only, such that the condition together with ${\mid}f{\mid}{\in}\mathcal{Q}_K({\partial}{\mathbb{D}})$ is equivalent to $f{\in}\mathcal{Q}_K$. As an application, a new criterion for inner-outer factorisation of $\mathcal{Q}_K$ spaces is given. These results are also new for $Q_p$ spaces.
